That stuff is terrible compared to the Oral-B satin floss.

    • +4

      Agree
      Satin floss is a preferred
I stock up when its 50% off

    • Yep, it's almost as if this is sponsored by the dental association given how hard it is on teeth and especially fillings.

    • +3

thanks, cancelled, will wait for Satin floss.

    • +11

This is my daily and it isn't "terrible" by any means. Especially at 100m for $4.

      • +1

I agree, I dont mind it

    • +3

Satin is a excellent product already, but if you manage to get Pro-glide, it is even better than Satin.

      • Glide is the best dental floss you can get.

    • +1

There was talk of them using pfas chemicals in it recently too

    • +1

      Agreed

    • +1

This stuff is absolutely fine lol

    • +1

I disagree. I find the satin floss breaks down too quickly especially between my tightly packed teeth and is too smooth so it doesn't get the gunk out as well as the colgate.

      • Agreed, the Oral B satin breaks very easy. I find the Colgate holds up well. Each to our own though.

    • You don't know what you're talking about.

  • +4

I like the ones on a plastic stick. My jaw doesn't open wide enough to jam my fingers in my mouth.

    • those and water flossers are a godsend

  • +1

I ditched this for a the Colgate water flosser and never looked back.

    • +2

Both have their uses imo, regular floss gets to stuff that a water flosser cant

the once a year I use this, my teeth bleed

    • Bleeding is good

    • +9

It is because your gums are swollen and nothing wrong with this floss. Continue for a few more weeks the bleed will stop.

    • If your gums bleed you may need to see a dentist

Once upon a time, my gums used to bleed. Turned out gingivitis.
Now i visit dentist every 6 months for routine clean and scale. Gums havent bled for a long time (touch wood)

    • +2

Dental student here, as others are saying you likely have gingivitis (your gums becoming inflamed and bleeding). It's completely normal to bleed straight after flossing when you haven't cleaned between your teeth in a while. Though in saying that, if flossing is difficult and you'd like to maintain cleaning between your teeth, then I'd recommend checking out some piksters or water flossers.

      • When my gums were bleeding, everyone told me its normal. I saw a dentist who was a close freind (after years of not seing one) and it was pretty advanced gingivitis which cost me quite a bit to treat it

Now i brush 2 times a day, floss daily, 6 to 9 monthly dentist visits and havent had any issues since.

        • Yeah you can't fully diagnose these things based on a description, so would be best for op to check it out. Glad your dental routine is working out for you :)

      • I have 3 questions if you'd share your expertise :)

Do you have any concern about the PFAS mentioned earlier on this post?

Are the Piksters safe free of PFAS?

How much worse is a water flosser than real flossing?

        • +1

From my experience water flossers are good between meals.
But you should use real floss once a day to really get the food particles stuck between gum line and teeth that water flosser cant remove. You want to prevent gum and bone recession and food stuck there doesnt help.

        • Honestly I've never heard about this PFAS thing until now. I did look into it and I'm unsure if I can draw any definite conclusions, I suppose more research is needed. I guess when it comes down to these things, you can always opt out of using it for non-PFAS floss or other interdental cleaning options too.

As for water flossing I remember being shown a video of it during class and it claimed to be as good as regular flossing. I do feel a bit queasy about that haha, but as Easterculture said it may be easier to remove food with some floss than using a water flosser - still depends on factors like your hand dexterity, etc. Though most importantly is what do you think you can use consistently and then decide from there. No point in opting for floss and then hardly using it over consistent water flossing.

A lot of these brands contain PFAS.

I use Dental Lace, which is made with Silk rather then plastic. It is a lot more expensive though.

    • +2

We got a high roller here 😏

    • +4

dental lace? Like lingerie for teeth?

  • Rubbish….this has been my go-to for many years with no issues.

    • +6

I prefer dental floss, though I’ve never thought to use
      Rubbish

Thank you! My Woolies doesn't sell this anymore so my nightly flossing with different floss has been a bit unsatisfying. No longer!

  • +1

whatever you get, don't buy the reach one. instantly splits and is too thick to get in tight gaps. useless

    • Didn't know Oral B makes a premium version of essential floss. Does it make a huge difference compare with Oral B essential floss?

  • I have to say I found the tartar control is so much better. Flat, thin, strong

  • Gorilla Floss is the best!

  • If you use each string twice, you can save 75%

    • you only ever need to buy one. wash, reuse..
