P5 ERR on Kia Optima?

We have a 2006 Kia Optima and the battery died on the weekend.

After replacing the battery the car works fine by the radio has a 'P5 ERR' one on it and won't respond to any buttons. There is no reset hole. We have the code for the radio but it doesn't show the screen to input the code. Google didn't help.

Any ideas?

Thanks

  • Contact Kia's PR Dept?

  • any other radios you can swap in and try? see if it's an issue with the radio itself or something else.

  • Just call Kia. Don't try swapping stuff yourself first.

    Google didn't help.

I googled the error code and a bunch of resources showed up, so clearly you didn't Google enough.

TBH OZB isn't the right place for this. Go to the Subreddit /r/fixxit/ but only after you've actually looked at the resources available.

  • Is it ps err?

  • Join a Kia car club group on Facebook - I'm sure at least someone has experienced it before

Thanks, we don't do FB though. Have looked around some of the other Kia forums, no luck so far. If all else fails I'll give the dealer a call on Monday.

      OK fixed.

I pulled the audio fuse for 10 minutes but that didn't work. So I puller the negative battery lead and that got the stereo to display the 4 digit CODE prompt so I was able to enter that and now it's all good. Cheers.

(Will leave this here for any other poor soul who happens upon the same predicament)

  • if you have to change the battery keep power to the battery leads as you remove them , use alligator clips to each batt lead and to a square 9v battery, this will keep the in car computer from losing settings
