    Hi

    • Hi!

    Hello đź‘‹

    • Hi!

  • +1

    yO 🤙

  • Haven’t read one of these in years, hopefully it comes to a library near me soon!

    • +1

My banana was in a Guiness World Records, until a librarian told me to get it off the book.

  • +9

I thought the internet and mobiles pretty much rendered this obsolete?

    • +2

I know right? Same with printed encyclopaedias

    • +1

Tell that to my relatives before every Christmas.

    • +13

I bought a 2020 one. I leave mine on the coffee table, along with 1-2 photo books. Good to flip open and just chill. My son and his mates get a kick out of it.

    Hi

    • +1

      Thanks. Added to post.

  • A fabulous text that helped introduce me to the equally marvellous concept of dark ale.

If only Smithwicks could be arsed compiling a list of obscure accomplishments…

  • 2023 edition is on sale to get the 2024 edition out in time for christmas?

    • This was only published last week…

      • +6

        That's a new record!

        • +1

Damnit!! Guys we need to organise a reprint

    Thanks OP

I've never understood why people buy this … is it that exciting? does it change that much each year?

    • +9

Changes by 1 each year. Previous versions include such titles as 2022, 2021, 2020, 2019 and so on.

      • yep and 99% of 2022, 2021, 2020, 2019 and so on.is exactly the same.

        • I actually don't know myself. Got the 2022 and now purchased this 2023. I might have been scammed by Guiness but I'll give them one chance. I assume they need to keep it real fresh as I imagine they are aware their customers of yesteryear are their easiest market for current/future edition/a. I'll give them one chance and I'll hope that's not the case. Not sure if what you are saying is derived from hands on knowledge or just what you suspect to be the case.

          • @seamonkey: There would only be a few new records set each year…. even if it was 30-50, thats only 50 pages… the rest would be the same.
maybe a dozen new dodgy categories

    • +3

They feature different "records" every year, the book doesn't contain everything they consider a record, ever.

      • Correct. It's a selection of existing records and most new ones I suppose

It's not like an index or anything. Each page has several records on it that it explains stuff about the record. Some brief, some detailed, some with accompanying photos.

  • +2

Got the 2022 and discovered that it’s nothing like it was 30 years ago - the “records” they include now are very different. I wouldn’t have bought it if I’d known

  • +4

I loved reading these as a kid. Would pick it up and flick to pages and imagine the people doing the feats. If you have curious kids they will love this.

  • Did Fevola make it into the book?

  • 2023? still couple of month left in 2022… this should be 2023 version not 2023 year. Marketing.

  • +7

Records nowadays are so different to the ones back in the day. Nowadays any jo blo can be the first person to do something random, get the Guinness book of records people to officiate and boom they have a record…

I want to know about the biggest spiders, the heaviest deadlift, the fastest insect etc. Not the most donuts eaten while riding a unicycle

    • +1

That sort of stuff is included too! But sometimes the other stuff is interesting as well. Note that these are not meant to be reference books, but fun books you can flip to and find something interesting. It gets kids thinking and reading.

      • +1

That's true! I've bought one as I don't have any previous version in the house and this one's Cover is really cool. I think they do well with the graphics each year on the cover, at least if no records change, the cover does!
( I bought it from Amazon in the end, Prime delivery is too good and convenience which outweighs (IMO) the 4% ($1.05) off with a gift card at Big W, plus i need to pick that up)
