    I received my 200W and my 150W
panels yesterday and started using old deep cycle and AGM batteries to charge my eneloops, phones , iPad ect using 12v sockets sourced from Jaycar.
I mean these things are great just for around the house ,

    but

Did anyone else notice that the panels are the same size (3x4) .
The only difference is the 15amp vs the 20amp pwm solar charge regulator.

I have a pretty basic knowledge of solar , and these regulators are a bit of a revelation , but I was expecting two different size panels ..
Did everyone get the same ?

Other than that , much better than the old kings folding hard panel.
Had a fun day playing with the reg figuring out whats what , now I can actually see what's going on

Only just picked up my 150w solar blanket. On way to work, but will try with it plugged into my 120ah AGM deep cycle battery and see how it goes on my day off.

    • Hey thanks I’m glad you did this, and posted here!

I was confused by the dimensions of these, I couldn’t fathom why they both were about 1.65m2 but one had 50w more power. Assumed wrong measures on box. But actually the same size? That’s a surprise. Either they look different and maybe the 150w is using lower grade cells, or the difference is just the reg and it’s an artificial difference.

      I tested my 150w blanket:

I set up a 120w 12v electric oven as a load. Using a Victron 75/15 MPPT, panel flat on ground at 3-3:15pm I got max of 70w. A Bainbridge 180w blanket in same conditions, same mppt - also 70w.

Today 1:30pm got 100w from the little boab, tho battery mostly full and only other load was a fridge (70w). To me that’s a great result and I’m stoked.

For what it’s worth I’ve seen anywhere from 10% to maybe 30% difference in upgrading the reg from PWM to MPPT in sunny ish conditions. Maybe $170 for a little extra juice isnt worth it, but the Victron SmartSolar does have Bluetooth and some level of data logging, so you can monitor when it suits you and also without getting out of your camp chair, and that to me IS worth $170 lol

  • Yes I had a look at the Victron when you guys were talking about it and it was $150 with discount code.
Looks to be the same panel with the smaller 15amp PWM that's supplied.
Pissing down here in Queensland today , so maybe awhile before I have a chance to understand more of what's going on.

    • Standing by to hear more….

  • You may need to crimp your terminals as I had one fall out at the input to pwm.
Now showing 603 code , battery over voltage on my old agm battery out of the bike that wouldn't hold enough charge for long before.
Charging phones ect with twin 12v plug to pull the volts down .
    Amps x Watts = Volts
Drawing Amps should bring it down to normal operation at some point today or tonight depending on cloud cover I'm thinking …

  • Nope fault code 603 was just me plugging it in backwards and now the suns gone again..
