why would an esim have lesser discount than a physical sim?

    • Hello unfortunately the eSIM industry is still maturing and the cost of these are actually higher than physical sim right now (yes even with the shipping cost)

This is slowly changing and eSIM prices will come down in the future :)

      -Anton

  • Can you please edit your title to show only Japan 10 day sim is 12.50. Thanks.

    • Hello sorry I don't quite catch what you mean? The title state Japan 10 days SIM are $12.50. We also have 15 days option for $17.50.

      -Anton

      • +1

Your title has a list of countries, but only Japan is 12.50, not the rest of them.

  • Any voice+data options for Japan?

    • Hello unfortunately we currently only offer data-only options for Japan. We recommend using VoIP apps to make calls :)

      • Thanks. That won't work for my purposes.

        • +2

I don't think Japan offer voice SIMs to tourists.

          • +1

@Jonzay: They don't. Also other than for business purposes nobody in Japan uses voice these days. So if you're heading over for work or to study you'll be able to get a call + data sim from Bic Camera or something.

        • You can get a Japanese phone number with skype.

  • If I buy the sim now, can I use it in December/January?

    • Hello! We have listed all the expiry date on the table above. As long as you activate before the expiry date on the table it will work for the number of days you purchased it for :)

      -Anton

      • Sorry just to clarify it will work up until the expiry date of the SIM.

        -Anton

  • I don't see the deal for South East Asia. Is there a coupon code to enter?

    • Hello please use the coupon code "NIPPON" for physical sim cards or "ESIM" for esim products.

      -Anton

      • Thanks for your quick reply but the past deal was better for South East Asia: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/720215

        • Hello last month was our Southeast Asia monthly deal which is why the prices for those SIMs are cheaper then :).

This month the monthly Japan plus you can still get the other sim discounted at 25% or 20% depending if you are getting the physical or the esim product.

          -Anton

          • @TravelKon: 500-750MB/day, a range only? Not an exact number?

            • @heroking1984: Yes as stated on our post it depends on network congestion each day but guaranteed it will have at least 500MB / Day.

PS DM us if we do not have any sales and we can do something for you :)

      -Anton

  • Maybe i missing something but i dont understand the popularity of these sims.

If you have 2 factor authentication for the most important thing like email, banking etc, then how do these sims help?

I just came back from 3 weeks overseas and having my usual number was invaluable irrespective of the cost.

Eg when I paid for certain things I needed an sms authorisation code from my bank to complete the transaction.

    • +2

Hello if you have a dual SIM phone you can keep your Aussie phone number active to receive SMS (almost all carriers here will not charge you to receive SMS overseas as long as you turn data roaming OFF).

You can then use the other SIM slot whether eSIM or Physical using one of our SIM for your data needs and save on roaming costs. This is Ozbargain right? :)

      -Anton

    • A solution with a complicated setup, but that is then ready whenever you need it:

      1. Get a Raspberry Pi and a mobile data dongle.
      2. Put your sim in the dongle, but connect the pi to the internet with wifi.
      3. Get/make a script that interprets any incoming SMS on the SIM and forwards it to you via a push notification (e.g. Pushbullet, Pushover).
      4. Optionally configure a script that let's you ping the Pi to confirm both it and the SIM are operating normally, in case you don't receive the forwarded SMS.

This also opens up the option to have all your SMS 2FA (as awful as it is, it's the only option for a lot of places) handled by a separate SIM on an Aldi $5 365 day plan. If noone knows the SIMs phone number, it provides partial obscurity against people fraudulently moving your mobile number to another SIM in an attempt to bypass your 2FA.

    • Another option that springs to mind (as been thinking about this myself). If you have your computer setup with pushbullet and you can leave the sim in a phone running in Australia you can get the messages on your laptop.

I have mightytext and the paid version also sends SMS's to your e-mail. But does mean I'll need to leave my sim here. Which is probably what I'll do as we're in the US for 4 weeks.

      • The main issue with this is that leaving a phone on charge in a warm environment for an extended period of time can eventually lead to battery swelling. I used to use phones as part of my home automation and came across this exact issue - the batteries still worked but swelled so much they actually forced open the (then removable) back cover.

        • I can't say I've ever had an issue with this. I've got an iPhone6 with a sim in it sitting on my desk. Plugged into my computer and on 24/7 and always charging. Never even gets warm. I've had it like this for around 18 months and no issue.

I did have an issue with this phone some years ago. Battery was replaced free by apple.

For this trip I'll use an old Note8. Battery is crap already.

          • @tonydav: I'm glad you haven't. It's scary when it happens. It happened to my old repurposed Galaxy S2 many years ago - I had it running a lot of intensive automation tasks, so it remained warm essentially 24/7.

            • @Jonzay: The iphone6 is only used for helicopter rides.

And think the Note8 will be fine - basically just for SMS's when I'm away. But do know what you mean with some of my older phones.

  • Any chance of Japan physical SIMs with later expiry? We have a trip planned in early Jan. Thanks.

    • +1

Yes we will have one that expire longer, check back in November :)

      -Anton

  • Hi
I've never used an esim before. Would it work on an iPhone 11? How do I go about using it?

    Thanks

    • Hello, yes iPhone 11 has eSIM capabilities.

We will send you a QR code via email and you can scan it to your phone alternatively you can enter the details manually by going to the mobile settings menu and "add mobile plan/eSIM" > "Use QR Code" > "Enter Details Manually"

Your eSIM will then appear on your mobile settings where you can turn on / off and delete once it has been used.

  • Going to the USA next year. There are a number of options you offer (I mean apart from #days/data). What are the differences between the providers? We'll be mainly in California, Texas and Vegas.

    Thanks!

    • Hello

      1. T-Mobile is a local SIM (similar to Optus / Telstra / Voda).
      2. Lycamobile is local MNVO which resells on T-Mobile network (similar to our Lycamobile here in Australia)
      3. The other USA SIM is a roaming card on AT&T network.

Big difference would be the local SIMs have calls and text included, the other USA SIM is on AT&T network (which may have better coverage depending where you go).

For all the places you mentioned all SIMs will work just fine.

      -Anton

      • So just get the cheapest.

I assume they all work in our phones? I.e. Australian versions of phones?

        • +1

The USA & Canada (roaming) SIM will work fine, for T-Mobile and Lycamobile please head to T-Mobile's website to check compatibility (link on our website)

  • Quick review here. Got physical sim from last deal before travelling to Cambodia. Super fast delivery but I am in Perth where they are sent out. Just pop it in to iPhone when you arrive and away it goes. I have Vodafone esim so still get texts/2FA and still cheaper than $5 a day international roaming. Hot tip Cambodia sim worked in Vietnam.
In Vietnam I purchased an e sim, while it wasn’t instantaneous I got an email the next day with my QR code. Had to put it in manually because can’t take a pic of the QR on the same phone as email delivered.
Friend picked up a physical sim in Vietnam for 100000(vnd) which is less than 5$aud for 10 days 30 gig and unlimited calls/text if you wanna be super cheap!
Also Cambodia and Vietnam have wifi everywhere so not really required unless you are exploring the streets and need google maps
    Hope this helps

    • Thanks for the review!

      -Anton

  • How do you check how much data you have left each day?

    • Hello

Which SIMs are you referring to? for the roaming SIMs you would need to check the data usage via your phone settings (all phone can track approximate data usage) or you can contact us.

For Local SIMs (such as Lycamobile, 3UK, T-Mobile, GiffGaff) you can check our website for instruction on how to check data usage.
