  • This or La Española Olive Oil 1 Litre for $9 at Coles (today and tomorrow) or Aldi's The Olive Tree Australian EVO for $9.99 (always)?

The Spanish one may taste better (I'm no expert however), but it travels the world more than I do.

Cobram is easily the best according to my tastebuds, all the rest I use for cooking.

After the Four Corners episode about Italian/Spanish olive oil dilution with other oil, I only trust Australian olive oil.

I’ve noticed Coles now sell home brand 3L tins and bottles of 100% Australian EVOO. Heaps cheaper than Red Island or Cobram but they must be the suppliers for the Coles home brand. Anyone tried this? Be keen to see a Choice comparison.

Here is a summary of the last Choice test on olive oils, no mention of the Coles home brand though

I saw that episode too. Given there is so much opportunity for corruption with imported olive oils, I'm tempted to only use Australian produced oils. And given olive oil is prone to spoilage over time and other temperature conditions, it stands to reason Australian produced oils will be fresher and exposed to less volatile weather in transit on ships, warehousing etc.

Olive Oil should have its own section on OzBargain!

      Spanish one doesn’t taste better.

Out of those three options: red island. But agree with other commenter that Cobram is best.

hi op - do you know if the 3 litre cans of red island will also be on sale?

    • +1

      I'm waiting for that too.

      • $33 on "special" this time for the 3 litre…..

  • I didnt really get it OP, where is this oil made from? /s

Red Island brand is also owned by Cobram Estate, so you can trust the quality. It’s not as premium, but still very good and also made in Australia.

I worked for Red Island for years, their oil is awesome, I visited the grove in Boort a few times, it's the only oil brand I still continue to buy.
