Definitely better for me - I've bought a few pairs of Kayano when they were super cheap - but I prefer the 2000s and they are very popular with runners.
But plenty of runners prefer the kayano too.

There is a reason running shoes come in multiple 'colourways' (no idea why that is the word but whatever). Because people care about what they look like…superficial or not, its reality.
Yeah of course, I agree and didn't mention anything on the contrary. The point is that it's like complaining a sports car is too low and not comfortable enough. Kayanos are specifically designed to be a daily running shoe that's cushioned, long lasting, comfortable and stable for people with pronation or supination. Looking good is (rightfully) behind all of that in the list, so you'd only pay more for Kayanos if those are priorities, otherwise there are cheaper and better looking options out there.
You don’t wear ASICS for the looks… Get Nike or Adidas if you’re after something attractive.

Too low a cut. Get ready to roll your ankles. Bad for crossfit, bad for outdoors runs. Ok for gym treadmills. Take off yours shoes if you're deadlifting or doing squats
This shoe is a specialist shoe designed for none of the activities you have mentioned, other than outdoor (non trail) runs, for which it is pretty highly regarded. May as well criticise football boots for being terrible for deadlifts or sandals for being terrible rock climbing shoes.

Heel stack height isn't the primary issue. It's more your heel width, volume and lace method. Google the lace lock technique if you slip with orthotics.
My orthotics have a 8mm heel lift on one side. They don't slip with my 29's.

For anyone wondering, it's very different to the 28 with the rocker. It's very nice to wear though. Forefoot does seem to have more volume and width.
I love the fit of the Kayanos (I'm a slight overpronator), but after the cushioning feel from my Hokas it's hard to go back to these (last one I tried was a 27) - have the 29s improved on the cushioning?
I don't think they will offer as much cushioning as the Bondi's or Cliftons. It's more so the propulsion assistance in the rocker.

Sharing an expensive shoe doesn’t really help reduce the cost. The shoe will just break down faster because it’s getting used more. Instead of needing new shoes every 4-6 months, you’ll need to replace your shoes a lot sooner.
I just got mine today. Unfortunately, they run small. I’m usually size 11 US but this a bit snug. Will exchange them for 11.5 US
