[SA] Free New SA Drivers Licence for Optus Data Breach Customers @ Service SA

2640

Similar to ciab’s post earlier, Service SA has decided to waive the $20 replacement fee

It is the Government’s view that South Australians whose data has been breached through no fault of their own should not be liable to foot the cost of replacing their driver’s licence, and given the scale of this attack the Government has decided to waive the usual $20 replacement fee

If you have been advised that your driver licence details have been compromised by the recent Optus data breach, you are eligible to request a new driver licence number.

Please attend a Service SA centre, or, use the online application forms 🆕 to apply for a change of licence number. Please bring any documentation you have received from Optus.

Once your licence number has been changed, a new driver licence card will be produced and posted to you. Your new licence will be immediately available digitally through your mySAGOV account and on the mySAGOV app.

Go to Facebook and look out for "SA Infrastructure and Transport" page and scroll down, you should see a post announcing the fee waive 14h ago, at the time I replied to you.

  • Will you already have had an email about this from Optus specifically mentioning your driving licence?… I've just had a generic one from them informing about the breach, no mention of any specifics.

Ah on the link it says please bring any documentation that you have received from Optus.

    • And if you can't find it, just go through their open API on the backend and get what you need. don't be stealing more data though!

I had an email in the middle of the night I since deleted, former customer. But didn't come across as urgent as I presume others get.

I can't say I'm going to go line up at Service SA in a hurry. Especially now that I have no proof….

    • Can you find the email in your deleted folder? Usually it should reside in there for at least 2 weeks (mines Hotmail) unless if you go and delete it again within the deleted folder.

    • Being negged because I deleted an email, lmao.

  • Peter has already clarified that eventually Optus will reimburse these costs back to Govt

Service SA wait times can be awful…

    • Yes very slow…

    • Yep, went a couple of days ago and the line up was long. Will be even longer now if people decide to replace their licenses.

    • Much quicker now if got a service sa account, took me 2mins to get a new drivers license photo after filling in a form only available on there computer.
Got a service sa account for my amazon flex account, and paying bills.

  • Isn't the Licence Number same as client number which is also linked to your Car Rego? So with a new License number do we then need to update the linked Car rego etc?

    • And then probably car insurance, utility bills and tons of other places. A real headache.

      • At what point do you bother? Make sure your bank is ok.

Your name and details are available everywhere to people in the know, this isn't a unique situation.

  • I went to Service SA the other day, line up was long, can only imagine the queues now after this data breach!

    • Did you need to provide any email ? or just show them you have an Optus account

FYI - ACT information is here: https://www.accesscanberra.act.gov.au/s/article/Information-…

Short answer - you'll get a new license (with a new card number but not a new licence number) if both the licence number and card number have been compromised. Optus will reimburse the $42.60 cost. If only one field is compromised, no new card is required. You can still request a new card (with a new card number but not license number) and pay the $42.60 yourself. Either way - no new license number - it stays with you for life.

I just went to ServiceSA in the cbd, 50 people lined up before me. I was out within 15 minutes. New license number appeared in the mySAGOV app within a few seconds.

    No fee charged.

I’m not usually one to compliment government services, but it was almost too quick…

Much quicker than porting all my services to Telstra.

    • Cool, gonna do that tomorrow.

    • Were you required to take a new photo?

      • No new photo. I thinks that how they are getting through them so quick. It’ll have the same expiry date.

Just attended Elizabeth branch. Was about 20 people in front of the store. Said I needed a replacement due to Optus. Was asked to show the digital licence on mysagov app. Got given a form and gave back to the same person at the front of the store. Got processed straight away (because I had the digital licence) and was told to cut up the physical licence. Best that you bring your physical licence at the same time.

    No new photo was taken.

    • Thanks mate. Did you get a new license number as well?

      • +1

Yes new number now on the digital licence.

  • Will they extend the licence expiry date for free when they change other details?

    • Lol you really asked that?

      • I hold a small amount of hope for this.

        • $49 a year, $20 admin fee. You reckon the Govt is just going to wave that for no reason?

    • No extension of expiry date.

Hey everyone. Do we need to show them we have been comprimised by the geneic email optus sent or is there is specific email that says license has been affected

    • Have a read above posts in here…

    • They didn't ask me to show evidence but they were run off their feet. But you better have the evidence in case they ask for it.

      • Just went and did it, they ask me to fill up a paperwork and hand over my physical license, but before I do that, they want to make sure you have the sa gov app running with your drivers license, advised to use that incase cops pull you over until they send the new physical card. In and out under 10min.

  • LEGAL Class Action / Class action is a type of legal proceeding in which one person (the plaintiff or applicant) brings a claim on behalf of a wider group of people

Time and car expense to get to Transport office / wasted time in line/ return trip / license fee = approx $200 per customer credited on Optus bill

Easy for them and for victim Lemon to Lemonade

This way they will pay professionals to keep data secure and not skimp on security

    A-boy 1 hour 23 min ago
My friend who works in talco advised me not to accept this offer, once u accept, u may not b eligible for any class action payment by govt in future.

  • has anyone received their new physical card yet? if so, how long did it take or how long did they say it should arrive?

    • Normally within 2 weeks.

  • After some very long lines and very frazzled staff, you can now do this online if you have a MySAgov account. No need to line up. The link is the same.
