What a shame that NSW gov is still holding on. Shit hole.

      And WA is Waiting Awhile

NSW on track to becoming the Florida of Australia.

      • +5

If only! We need a strong conservative.

        • +8

          We need Florida man

      • I wish

    • +21

To be fair, why should nsw gov foot the bill? Optus will reimburse your costs, considering it was them who made the error I think the NSW approach is the right one? Why should the public suffer for a private error?!

      • You nailed it!

      • +8

From what I've heard, most of the state governments who are offering the free replacements will basically bill Optus for them.

      • +3

Because it's in the public interest? This data breach affected virtually half the population of Australia, that's a lot of people. The PII data exposed is stuff you can't even really change so identity fraud may not happen right away, but the data will still be valid for the rest of these people's lives? So it is good that Tas is offering to change your license number. I for one am horrified for those impacted. Optus should be heavily fined, execs in jail.

      • +1

Optus pays eitherway. Affected people not updating/changing their details would cost the public more indirectly if said documents were abused en masse. Making updating your ids more easier & frictionless ASAP is in the public's interest overall. Don't really care for Liberal & Labour bandwagons, however people in charge in NSW aren't really know for planning that far ahead, especially with their track record in the past 2-3 years, so no surprise here.

ACT Government said you can only get a new licence if you become a victim of fraud…. stupid

      • +1

FYI - ACT information is here: https://www.accesscanberra.act.gov.au/s/article/Information-…

Short answer - you'll get a new license (with a new card number but not a new licence number) if both the licence number and card number have been compromised. Optus will reimburse the $42.60 cost. If only one field is compromised, no new card is required. You can still request a new card (with a new card number but not license number) and pay the $42.60 yourself. Either way - no new license number - it stays with you for life.

    • Gone in March

    • you can put calm into Optus person they should pay for hopeful State gov will sent them big bill for all this shit.

  • It was free from opening this morning when I went in there.

Why is this a bargain ?

    • +3

Does getting a new drivers license number usually cost money?

    • +5

It’s a bargain because no taxpayers’ money is being wasted — these are public servants sitting around doing nothing anyway. So it’s a win-win situation, with taxpayers getting free licences, and the public servants adding more meaning into their lives

    • +2

Apparently the expiry dates on the cards are also refreshed, so technically you could save between $0 and $100 depending on when their license expires.

    • Its normally 11.49

  • +4

If I were affected by the Optus data breach, am I entitled to change other affected information, such as Date of Birth, etc? Asking for a friend.

    • -3

Yes, should include name, medicare number, dob, address, email, passport numbers… Basically everything that was stolen.

    • I'm gonna start a new life, my new name will be Saul Goodman.

      • +1

You get Max power court order

  • Any update on NSW?

    • -7

It is still part of Australia.

  • Free too for NSW, customers will be able to seek reimbursement through Optus.

    • Seek or get reimbursement? Any source for that?

    • NSW yet to clarify if it will change your actual driver's license number or just the card number (which would be a waste since card number rarely asked for.) - the other states specified changing drivers license number, NSW hasn't yet.

You will get a new card number, which since Sept 1st this year is now required by every service verifying your identity.

        • Card number isn’t what is given for your 100 points of ID for loans etc - it’s the license number.

Which has been the issue for NSW residents the last few days - getting clarity if the license number will also be changed.

Because at the moment it still appears they’ll only change license number if you’ve already been the victim of identity theft, not just had your info hacked. Which is contrary to every other state in the country

  • In the e-mail from Optus it says "No ID document numbers or details have been affected.". Is there really a need to change licence numbers?

    • Might as well change your name whilst you’re at it. And get a haircut first. Could be a good idea to change your routine every now and again — just to avoid being too predictable. Everyone deserves a fresh start

    • +1

in the text message recieved it was license numbers and other information so yes a very big need to change numbers

    • +1

Must be different emails because mine has

" The information which has been exposed is your name, date of birth, email associated with your former account, and the number of the ID document you provided such as drivers licence or passport number."

So very specifically saying the ID number of my license or passport.

      • +1

Ahh so there's different messages going out, for me it was just name, DoB and 'possibly' address.

        • Yes its different for different people, probably based on when you first became a Optus customer and when/if you ever logged in to update your personal details. You can query the API yourself to see what data is exposed (and stolen) for yourself.

          • +1

@pussa: How do you do this? Because mine said "number of the ID document you provided such as drivers licence or passport number" I'd like to find out specifically if it was the passport or the drivers license. Because if it was passport no use even bothering about replacement drivers licenses.

  • +1

Is this a new number or a renew of time period on a license?

  • FYI - ACT information is here: https://www.accesscanberra.act.gov.au/s/article/Information-…

Short answer - you'll get a new license (with a new card number but not a new licence number) if both the licence number and card number have been compromised. LEGAL Class Action / Class action is a type of legal proceeding in which one person (the plaintiff or applicant) brings a claim on behalf of a wider group of people

Time and car expense to get to Transport office / wasted time in line/ return trip / license fee = approx $200 per customer credited on Optus bill

Easy for them and for victim Lemon to Lemonade

This way they will pay professionals to keep data secure and not skimp on security

My friend who works in talco advised me not to accept this offer, once u accept, u may not b eligible for any class action payment by govt in future.
