[WA] Free New WA Drivers Licence for Optus Data Breach Customers @ Transport WA

1530

WA has joined the free licence replacement party.

Relevant announcement from the Transport minister:

New drivers licences, with new licence and card numbers, will be available free of charge to Western Australians impacted by the Optus data breach.

Optus has just confirmed thay they will be contacting customers directly in upcoming days if their specific license has been compromised. This is in addition to the original email advising of the breach.

If you have received this secondary notification from Optus that your licence details have been compromised, please attend a Department of Transport Driver and Vehicle Service Centre with a copy of your Optus breach notice, as well as two forms of primary identification.

Further information, including frequently asked questions, will be available at http://transport.wa.gov.au later today.

  • Does anyone know if I was issued a new drivers licence with the same number but different expiry date if I still need to get a new one?

I would assume if you have been confirmed as compromised it would be good to get a different license number

      • Ok awesome thanks for the advice

  • Has anyone been to DOT yet to get a new license without receiving the second email?

The advice has been updated today:
    https://www.transport.wa.gov.au/aboutus/37546_48564.asp

Also on the E126 form it looks like you maybe able to get a replacement license if you been a victim of identity fraud in the past which is good.

  • LEGAL Class Action / Class action is a type of legal proceeding in which one person (the plaintiff or applicant) brings a claim on behalf of a wider group of people

Time and car expense to get to Transport office / wasted time in line/ return trip / license fee = approx $200 per customer credited on Optus bill

Easy for them and for victim Lemon to Lemonade

This way they will pay professionals to keep data secure and not skimp on security

My friend who works in talco advised me not to accept this offer, once u accept, u may not b eligible for any class action payment by govt in future.

Can someone explain how a new license will fix any ID fraud issues? As the stolen license is a totally legit license. How would the bank or other business, when approached by the fraudster, know the old legit license isn't legit anymore? Seems like they would have to change the design and issue everyone a new ID, or am i missing something?
