Review of the 10th Gen i7 and 4K display model: MobileTechReview
This looks great for the price, according to the review, the biggest drawbacks is the battery life and the USB C port only supports data transfer

  • Wow thats a great price for a whole lot of laptop
although not the latest intel 11th gen cpu, that H series is pretty powerful when plugged in

    • +1

12th gen is the latest with 13th on the horizon ready for shipping.

      • +1

I think 13th gen is desktop for now

        • +5

Yeah for now. But 12th gen should be the "latest" for mobile Intel CPU, not 11th gen.

  • This competes with most NUC builds with similar power.

Only one HDMI and no DP, does that mean it can't connect to two external monitors?

    • +2

      Correct

    • the usb-c port being data only is the biggest drawback.

I'm using a dock since work pays, and that lets me connect to (at least) 2 external monitors. Bit pricey though.

  • Looks like no thunderbolt?

I'm pretty impressed with the 1650ti. I was looking down on it due to the name, but it's just sufficient at playing 1080p. Can even handle god of war at 45frames, 60 with fsr. Pretty good, I wouldn't mind daily driving it as main computer.

    • At what settings? Med/Low?

    • I've been using my Acer Nitro with the same specs as this post for over a year now, great computer.

Played Far Cry 4 on med-high settings at 1440p 50-70 fps

      • I reckon yours wouldnt be the Max-Q version so you would get better performance than this laptop.

        • Not sure, I've not seen the GPU draw over 50W. It stays relatively cool too, usually peaking 60-70C

  • Is it GPU throttled? My last Lenovo was.

    • Most likely yes as this laptop uses a MaxQ variant of the GTX 1650TI.

    • What’s faster standard mobile 1650 or 1650ti maxq?

      • +2

        standard boss

If i got this and wanted to upgrade the ram (get another 1x8gb for 16gb total) would I have to get another 8GB SODIMM DDR4-2933? They seem quite rare or would a 3200 work and it'll lower to 2933?

    • I have this laptop and upgraded the ram using this: https://www.pccasegear.com/products/54414/team-t-force-zeus-…
It works great, but there's no way the ram frequency is making any noticeable difference (it's my software dev machine).

So you'll be fine any speed of ram.

    • Is this 1x8gb ram?

      • yes

Hey mate, same laptop with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage for about $100 extra:

      https://www.centrecom.com.au/lenovo-thinkbook-15p-156-fhd-i5…

Only condition is that you must pick it up from one of their stores.

        • +1

I've had that one for coming up on two years now, have had no issues with it apart from minor backlight inconsistency.

Very easy to open and upgrade with an extra stick of RAM, extra NVME ssd and SATA ssd. Don't let Harvey talk you in to paying them to do it. Upgrading the laptop yourself DOES NOT void warranty etc.

Played modded Fallout 4 on high+ settings 1080p 60+fps on the laptop monitor

Far Cry 4 on med-high settings 1440p 50-70 fps on external monitor.

Modded Oblivion max settings 1440p 100+fps on external monitor (except in towns where frame rate will drop to 30-40 i'm guessing due to NPC calculations)

        • Same here, but I think I've missed the boat. Says out of stock on their website now.

If I'm comparing the specs correctly the acer has a better CPU but lower GPU? Can't tell if the Acer is using a Max-Q or whatever the nerfed mobile version is. Otherwise (ignoring screen differences) they're fairly similar right?

  • Why only Windows 10?

    • +5

Because Lenovo is a reputable company that doesn't want their customers beta testing an operating system?

      It's a free upgrade to W11.
