Who the hell is walking down the street on a hot day and looks in the store fridge for a bottle of "soup by Campbells" and thinks it will be refreshing?
Not me. Thoughts? Do you like the idea of smashing down a bottle of ice cold Tomato/Pumpkin soup?

You can't stop progress, old man

    • lol not sure what your comment means but I am probably not old by your meaning and I still don't like the idea of it.

Are you saying you would buy this product and think it will be delicious?

I guess at the very least you think it is "progressive" lol.

You're not meant to drink them straight out of the bottle. Still need to stove or microwave…

    https://cdn0.woolworths.media/content/wowproductimages/large…

But I suppose you could and it's not much different from V8 or other veggie drinks.

    • I don't think I've had V8 before. But I have had some other Veg & Fruit drinks and I don't mind them kind of like the Veg & Fruit options at the juice bar.

But these seem to be straight Veg drinks possibly with beef/chicken stock mixed in? I mean I assume so since Campbells are making them. Seems like some bright idea someone came up with to get rid of backed up stock lol.

Read the ingredient list in the pic above. 96% vegetables and no added stock.

        • Thanks for the fine print. Although it doesn't say anywhere "do not consume this as is".
I guess the progressive people can try that one lol.

      • V8 is pretty good, with Vodka.

        • and tabasco

    • "You're not meant to drink them straight out of the bottle. Still need to stove or microwave…"

Ok that does make things seem a bit better. Still if people got these at the local milk bar I think they would drink it out of the bottle lol.

    • I saw it on a YouTube ad and it said drink hot or cold

      • So I guess they do expect "some" people to buy it for the taste of cold vegetable soup 😗.

You've been able to get soup in cans for decades. Don't see a bottle being any different.

    • +1

Yeah just how the short ad was it came across as if it was a straight up cold drink by Campbells. Didn't mention anything about needing to heat it up before consumption.

Soup should really be in aluminum cans. Bottles are heavier so take more resources to transport and are harder to recycle.

    • -3

hmmm …..aluminium can also leach into food

      • Unlike plastic…

          Glass is best

  • Thoughts? Do you like the idea of smashing down a bottle of ice cold Tomato/Pumpkin soup?

Plastic bottles vs metal cans….. It's not to drink from the bottle. It's called packaging, plastic bottles are cheap and easy to deal with compared to cans.

Also hope you're sitting down…. they have soup in a jar too!

    https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/203366

    • "they have soup in a jar too!"

Not shocking enough that I need to be sitting down.

I know some people who like to drink "drinks" like tea/coffee/juice out of glass jars at home.

  • Yuck!

Homemade soup always served hot & if you have to eat it on the go, then get a thermos.

    • "Yuck!"

Yeah I agree. Difference between pumpkin soup served hot and cold is like hot 9/10, cold 1/10.

    • Homemade bottled soup only.

None of this mass produced bottled soup nonsense.

      Homebottles only. Thank you!

It's made to be 'Convenient' which is a hot topic in this day and age, made for those that are lazy, or for roadies that want something a little different for lunch or dinner.
Don't be too surprise if they pop up in force at all servo's nationwide.

    • I dunno about convenience. Only makes sense if you want to down a bottle of 100% vegetable soup at ice cold temperature. Literally sounds like a huge flop to me.

Maybe I am underestimating people's desperateness to feel "healthy" in 2022.

      • Convenient in the sense that you no longer need a can opener, and it's microwave-able (excluding the container).

It could also be an attempt at a money-grab/larger profit by Campbells. $3.50 for 515g of soup as opposed to $1.50 - $2.00 for 420g can of soup (Source: Woolworths) seems like either the supermarket, campbells or both are trying their luck at $$$$ from idiots that can't be assed with a can opener. Obviously that's RRP but one would imagine the 'Cost price' would be more for the soup in the bottle.

Ultimately it will fail, atleast I hope lol

        • "$3.50 for 515g of soup as opposed to $1.50 - $2.00 for 420g can of soup (Source: Woolworths)"

Yeah I can see the servos and milkbars adding their own markups so it ends up priced at $5 a bottle compared to $3.50 at the supermarket.

  • Imagine getting one hot from a vending machine and grabbing a crusty baguette, tearing the top off and pouring some soup on to eat.

    • You can get hot soups from vending machines in Japan.

      • Yeah I have had one or 2. Never did the bread with it though.

  • Soup in a glass jar. Makes perfect sense. Straight in the microwave oven. No dishes. I can't see the problem. Much better than cans or plastic. A great idea!
Personally I make it myself. Fresh ingredients. Soup is easy to make and then store it however you wish.
    But that's another topic altogether.

  • I'm not eating it unless it has crickets in it.

We used to drink cold tomato soup on a hot day at home. Mum watered it down more than the can stated, served with ice, was a real treat.
