Seeking Recommendation for Road Trip Destinations between Sydney and Melbourne

Hi

Friends and I are planning a 2 - 3 day road trip next month. We are Sydney and Melbourne based.

The plan is to meet somewhere in the middle, preferably in a small town with a nice view.

All we want is to get out of the city and be off the grid

Edit - Thanks for all those lovely suggestions!

  • How much "off the grid" did you want to be?

    • Appears 3 days at most :D

    • definitely, no camping style and a hot water supply is a must.

So not 'off the grid at all'.
        Maybe try Canberra.

        • Definitely off the grid, 100% renewable energy ;)

Probably best to stay at home in comfort?

Thredbo, then walk to the summit of Mt Kosciuszko.

    • Just googled, a great choice.

    • Such a great walk!

stop off and feed ya face at Holbrook Bakery NSW

  • Gundagai is quaint, you can go visit the dog on the tuckerbox. Goulburn and visit the super max and the big merino. Glenrowan and shoot at some police with Ned. Canberra, but the place is crawling with politicians. Albury/Wodonga… walk back and forth between NSW and Vic. Holbrook and the big submarine… Yass… you can go to the Maccas sign… Just to name a few.

  • Turn right off the Hume Hwy south of Yass into Burley Griffen Way. Continue through Binalong, Harden, Murrumburrah and turn left at Wallendbeen. Continue onto Cootamudra, Bethungra, Junee and Wagga. Continue on the Olympic Hwy through The Rock, Henty and a Hamlets to Albury.

  • albury, wodonga, wagga. Rest can be skipped.

Can probably skip Wagga while your at it..

      • Is Albury nicer than Wagga Wagga?

        • Can confirm.

        • depends. I really enjoyed them all.

  • Two mates, want to meet off the grid, how about Belanglo? :)

  • Why not take the coastal route and stop in some sea side town.. Bateman's bay or Bermagui or Merimbula etc
