Have You Heard of The Clearance Club?

Hi Matt here from The Clearance Club, thought I would bring this up in my intro.

Have a look at The Clearance Club, sign up, share and tell me what you think (be gentle) šŸ˜Š
I would love to know what OzBargainers think of The Clearance Club

The Clearance Club gives you a convenient way of searching through all your favourite local retailers for unique clearance items, giving you early access to those hidden bargains!
We're in the process of getting Australia's retailers onboard, sign up now we will keep you posted when the awesome deals start rolling in.

Step 1. Sign up to get notified of deals in your area (as they come, Aus is a big area)
Step 2. Content will be displayed and searchable on the site similar to Gumtree or Facebook Marketplace, however, only retail clearance.

We are working as fast as possible to balance the interest with content, hope to be there soon.

    Maybe re phrase the question:
    Does anybody want more unbargains?

If you can get retailers onboard, sure.

I got excited with price hipster until it ended up having only half the shops I needed due to website compatibility issues. Now it's almost pointless as a comparison website because of that.

    Best of luck

    • Yes, It's a tight game getting this right, hence we are starting with email notification until we have some decent content.

Thanks for the input, appreciate it.

The only website I frequent other than OzB is https://www.shppngtrlly.com.au/ and that is because it provides a genuine, easy-to-use service. If you want to attract this kind of crowd, make your product similar to that.

'Ā½ Price Specials at Amazon.com.au - Find all groceries at least 40% off items from Amazon, same price or cheaper than Coles or Woolworths plus free delivery with Amazon Prime.'

needs Amazon Prime - and then you can scroll through 100 pages of tiny pix of 'maybe' discounts for crap I don't need ?

      yeah nah thanks anywaze

      • I go on there once a week, look for items which are almost out (e.g. dish soap, body wash, toothpaste etc.) get those and then look to see if there are any great deals on food.

Gets delivered in the next day or two.

I dont live near a Colesworth so this is the way I access bulk discounts.

        • Yep, see the value for sure.

    • Totally! That is the plan, content and users is the goal.

Thanks for the input, appreciate it.

    @samyall

Never heard of them before, but that site looks good.

Iā€™m going to add it to my favourites! Thanks

    • You'll probably see the deals pop up on Wednesdays here. I find that it a good site for ctrl+f to find what you want.

  • Not sure if anyone else mentioned but good idea to verify emails first prior to signing them up. e.g I just registered using an email and got an email that I'm now subscribed without first verifying the email.
Also for those worried about handing over 'personal' info. Not that hard to use a throwaway email address and random postcode so not really handing over anything

    • Great feedback thank you!

No way to view deals without signing up? I'm out!

On a totally unrelated note, Why are the upvote/downvote buttons missing for this post?

Apologies, I think you may have misunderstood, or I have failed to explain it clearly. At this stage see it as an "expression of interest" in the solution.

With regards to voting it was there before, not sure why it would be gone.

Forcing someone to register before you let them access the deals is a dik move.

      • Ah fair enough.

I probably woundn't sigh up - but I would go in for a regular browse and probably buy things on impulse from time to time

The first thing you need to do is bring your best bargains to the OzBargain community
Then you can ask us whether it is any good.

    • That is the plan for sure šŸ˜

hmmm ive got a cool website too

  • Why does "We will collect personal information from you by lawful and fair means and not in an unreasonably intrusive way."

Feel super dodgy to me, don't explain these lawful and fair means just trust us bro it's lawful and fair.

    In other words:

You have the choice to sign-up and provide your email address, we will be providing tools for you to manage your subscription, we will not just add you via unlawful means e.g buy a database of emails.

  • OP, can you please PM me?

  • It made me feel like I'm the one on clearance šŸ„ŗ

  • I believe somebody above already mentioned that the website looks dodgy - I agree. It looks quite cheap and amateur. May I suggest you get a good web designer or graphics designer on board to improve things? (if you already have one… well.) You could also use a copywriter to fix up the grammar throughout the site.

There are some easy things that could make the site look more professional and polished:

    • Typography: Someone else mentioned the grey text is hard to read - even on a desktop, I agree. The colour contrast is fine but the font weight needs to increase. There are grammatical errors.
    • Text in images: Avoid turning text into an image because it impacts your SEO and immediately looks amateur (eg. the icons under 'Why stores clear stock')
    • Graphics / layout: The "clearance"-style yellow sticker that is used across the page has inconsistent angles all over the place and is used inconsistently (eg. used on the name/email fields for newsletter signup, but not on the "Join" button - not that I am recommending you make all three angled because that would be even worse). Generally, it looks jarring, irritating and unprofessional. I understand the idea that you are going for, but it's not executed well - I would recommend a designer to help implement that concept more successfully.

I don't intend to sound negative, but just to offer honest feedback. As someone who works in web and marketing, the above makes a real difference when first launching a new site or product or marketplace - especially because you are trying to convince people to sign up, and trying to convince retailers to join the platform.

From a business (retailer) perspective, I would not want to be associated with your platform as it currently is. Same as a customer.

    • Fantastic feedback thank you so much for taking the time to give such detail. We will definitely implement your suggestions for sure.

Not sure that is how this ecommerce caper works….. Asking for interest without any content is wishful. Content comes first, interest second. Expressions of interest for bargains is a bit of a strawman, who would say no to that particularly given the forum on which you have posted. Sites that sell clearance stock are a dime a dozen, nothing novel at all.

Have you heard of the clearance club?

You havent even launched the website, how on earth would anyone have heard of it?

    Whole thing feels quite spammy/scammy.

    • Apologies for coming across misleading, your points are valid.

      Appreciate the feedback.

  • I like the idea :) I signed up, I have several emails I use for marketing :)

    Few notes about the website:
    1. Privacy Policy and Club rules takes me to PDF pages. It's best to create a web page, it will look more professional.
    2. Add contact us and about us page. Talk about your business and why you're starting it.
    3. Make sure to add Copyright statement and ABN to your website (see the bottom of ozbargain website or any other business website).

Good luck with your business venture! Hope it works out for you.

    • Great points, thanks so much for sharing, really appreciate it.

Problem with clearance lines a lot of retailers actually wont have a huge amount. A clearance line might be one unit or 5 or 6 most retailers wont have 100s of units to get rid of. When i worked in retail decades ago it usually was just a couple of units and i wanted them gone to clear up more shelf space. Big mark down and they are gone no mucking around with tiny reduction in price. I needed the space for better more profitable quicker turnover lines.

Clearance lines are products most people dont want!

They only buy them because the price is exceptional your only going to have heaps of them for clearance if you stuffed up when you ordered them.
