  • Jeez that's a big price jump from the 12v ones.

  • Maybe not comparing apples/apples, but see that in US they have 100ah/48v rack packs going for around $300US/kWH

    • hmmm, so that would be about 5kwh, x $300 = 1500usd = 2300aud + GST = 2530aud (I notice these are sold locally for around $2650)

About the same as this deal… 2 x this deal = $2682 (which includes shipping)

This video is worth a watch if you're considering these batteries, a bit of a factory tour, pretty cool:

  • I ended up biting the bullet and ordering a 12v 100Ah LiFePO4 battery from these guys, it'll be nice to have some decent power in my campervan, the cheap 120Ah AGM battery I've been using in recent years hasn't been very good from the start…

Even though I'm a total cheapskate after doing a lot of research I'm quite content spending the money to get a battery with guaranteed brand-new A-Grade cells with a real local warranty, it'll be nice to not have to worry about my house/aux battery for a few years…

I heavily researched the cheap LiFePO4 batteries that have been coming up here at around $270 upwards, it seems they contain used second hand pouch cells that are down around 80% capacity which is generally classed as "end of life', the sellers claim they're good for 2000 cycles but that's unlikely… It seems most these recycled cells are fairly new, so for them to be down to 80% capacity it seems they've probably had a very hard life, very high charge and discharge rates or the likes… It's well known that cells tend to drop off fast once they hit 80% capacity which is why that's classed as end of life, and why they have been pulled out of service to be offloaded to suckers like us… I really wasn't keen on dealing with basically recycled crap and have to buy again in 12 months time… (The VOLTX batteries are much the same, second hand prismatic cells and about $100 more)… Also, other than DOA there isn't really any warranty on these cheap batteries…

I also did a lot of research into ordering cells from china and building my own battery but that seems very hit and miss, even the sellers that have quite a good reputation seem to send out faulty cells quite often and it's not possible to return them for a refund, it all seems to be a real gamble and the cost saving wasn't enough to offset the risk…

A big part of why I didn't want to compromise on my new battery investment is because if I did get a sub-par battery I'd battle on with it and suffer just trying to get my monies worth out of it, as I've been doing in recent years with the AGM battery I've been using, it's not fun… (i.e. this winter I couldn't run my diesel heater due to lack of battery capacity)
