I keep saying that but they keep dropping the ball :(
I keep hearing that the Pixel 6 phones are crap, however most review sites rate them highly in their category of cheap, mid-range phones.
I used to generally trust the reviews from GSM Arena, Android Authority, Toms Guide etc. which all say it isn't horrible. Have these review sites all sold out? Am I getting old and should I start telling people to get off my lawn with their tiktoks and grams?
Are there any good independent phone reviewers? I generally do a search and check a couple of the above mentioned sites, I don't like watching 30 minute youtube videos just to find out that I might get a 1% increase in performance or the camera doesn't do shit that I'm not interested in anyway.

The monthly fee for the 2TB tier is $12.49, so I wonder if you can subscribe for a month, preorder the phone, get the credits, then cancel?

Here's what my cart looks like for a Pixel 7 Pro 256GB and adaptor with 10% off from StudentBeans, $300 store credit and 10% back from the 2TB storage plan.
$1,344.60 - $300 - $134.46 = $900.14
Understandable it's store credit and not a direct discount, but it helps if you had something planned to buy.
Add $12.49 on top if you wanna include google storage.
Genuine question, why not order the phone first, wait til the you get the $300 store credits, then buy the charger?

Google storage (Google one) is not in the google store and uses google play credits
They are not premium dollars and their phones are pretty good. It is not basic android - it is good android without bloatware. The thing about android, you have lots of choice - so you pick what you like. I personally have had Pixel 5 for a couple of years, bought it at around $750 and it was a great phone - small, reasonably quick and does what phones need to do, has wireless charging, is waterproof. For my partner we bought a cheapie Motorolla, cause it is good enough. For my son IPhone, because moron teenagers. Now IPhone is where the premium money is (but the phone is good and arguably worth it) and possibly Samsung (but I haven't checked lately - they don't tick all my boxes).

@MyEducation: Just checked my wife's google - she had a normal offer, ie. no free first month.
So only works if you don't have the first month free offer.
If you downgrade to a lower plan then go back up to the 2TB plan you won't be on the free trial anymore.

So there is a risk to be charged for 2 months of the Google One subscription. That is what I want to avoid.
@Xishnik: I mean you could cancel it and hope google honours it, but I think paying $25 (2x monthly fee $12.50) is worth the $100+ credit you get, assuming you will use it for something like a charger

So it basically guarantees that you need to be subscribed for two months. Yes, it still makes sense to do it that way as the credit is great than the 2x monthly charges.

Get a Unifi U6-LITE ~$190, or a U6-PRO ~$290 if you need the extra range/bandwidth. Great wifi devices, but you need to plug it into your existing router and disable the wifi on your router

Really need to upgrade from pixel 2 basically dead now,The speaker loudness (both earpiece and loud speakers) has to be improved a bit IMO - still too quiet in some situations. Nothing near as good as that on my previous Pixel 3XL or iPhones in general. To be expected with the speaker under the screen I suppose. Hopefully they fix up the finger print scanner - was nothing wrong with the hardware one on the back of the P5.
Anyway will probably wait a minute before getting one, probably upgrade before EOFY 23 if reviews are decent and any bugs are ironed out. To be honest the P5 hasn't skipped a beat and like the smaller form factor to the bigger handsets (one handed operation, longer battery due to larger screen chewing it up, better pocket ability, doesn't bend lol).

I don't upgrade all the time maybe every second one - it may be difficult to decide if i'd get the pixel 7 or 7 pro next time, I do like the smaller size (one hand operation, smaller in pocket, long battery) but assume the bigger battery would make up for the size for the pro. Not aware on other differences yet but no doubt better for watching videos etc.

@Willy Beamish: I usually just wait at least 6 months, then get one and do a price protection claim for 28 degrees within 12 months of purchasing it. the Pixel 3xl got down to $588 instead of $1500 (got one at the half price sale $750 from google before that before they were releasing the pixel 4).

Got a 10% discount code from google for registering interest and will get a $300 store credit too. I am on a pixel 3xl so I will take the risk that its good. Key thinking for me, if the finger print is still bad then has face unlock. Also has android 13 so hopefully this will fix some of the 6 issues. Bought so I will see, fingers crossed its good.

Received mine today too, seems good. Only part way through the setup but the good news is that the finger print scanner seems very fast and accurate so far (7 Pro).
The polished aluminium frame on the Pro looks shitty tho IMO, would much rather the satin anodising on the normal 7.
