Really, only to 364m? The Maglite stops the photons travelling to infinity?

    • The Maglite doesn't stop the photons, Chuck Norris stops them! :p

What's a 3D Cell? Or do they mean 3 x 'D' type batteries? If the latter, it'd be a pain to replace. They keep going 3D Cell 131 Lumen Light Source I don't know if the reference is one whole thing or 2 separate items.

      3 x D

3x D-cell batteries. Why would they be a pain to replace? You can get them everywhere.
This is not designed to be a small, portable torch. It's designed as a "persuasion" stick ;-)

131 Lumens is in reference to the amount of light output the torch produces.

Or do they mean 3 x 'D' type batteries? If the latter, it'd be a pain to replace.

The reduced current requirements of LED also means that using Eneloop AA's with 'D' adapters is entirely feasible…in fact, this is what I do! :)

The large screw in the tail cap is designed to make contact with a D cell, and doesn't conduct with a AA cell in an adapter at the end. The solution I found was to place a 50c coin in at the end.

        • True, I forgot that…I was lucky & had a flanged nut that was the perfect size to go in the end of the spring; but the 50c is a great idea, excellent lateral thinking! :)

  • Can get a 6D from US Amazon for $37.27 AU delivered.
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000056BME/ref=noref?ie=UTF…

    • 6D is not LED. However, it's still cheaper to buy the 3D LED at Amazon.

      • My bad, thx for pointing that out

      • the maglite 3D on Amazon is the old version with 104 Lumen?

        • Read the reviews as someone mentioned that they got the new 131 Lumen. Maglite upgraded the 3D Lumen and Amazon probably kept their old description on their site. Unless you get an old stock from Amazon, it should most likely be the newer 131 Lumen, but no guarantee it will be.

  • Can someone please check if Costco's cheaper.

    • I can't recall if the the one in CostCo is $39 or $49, BUT it comes with 2 torches that are both LED and comes with all the batteries. So definitely comes out as more value. Sorry to say, I couldn't tell if it was the 1st Gen LED Maglite or the 2nd Gen which is what this one is. Off the top of my head, the differences include a shorter throw and slightly lower lumens. Still, that 1st Gen LED was plenty bright.

  • It says 3 x D cell batteries, not included. What a great weapon, my old 2 x D battery Maglite is about 257mmm long and this one is 310mm. I was thinking of getting one from Harvey Normans for $39 but i can't pass on $35 delivered.

    • If weapons is your thing get the 6 D from Amazon - I believe carrying one is consider carrying a lethal weapon by the police.

Nah, you would look like you are looking for trouble with that monster.

        • +5

          Isn't that the whole point?

      • +2

I have a 6D old style maglite (krypton globe), yep it is a 'weapon' for sure.
Got it to mount on top of my rifle scope for night time vermin hunting years ago.
still works as good as new 20 years later.

  • How much do these things usually go for locally?

  • +13

These are $37 at Bunnings as a standard price.

    http://www.bunnings.com.au/products_product_maglite-3d-torch…

    • thanks for pointing that out!

      $2 saving? hell NO!!!!

      would rather get it locally!
warranty, dealing, all easier than Scoopon!!!!

  • I bought a 5D (so 5 D batteries) 300 Lumen torch from Bunnings Warehouse last week + BONUS, you get a small and handy 140 Lumen (3 AA batteries) torch with it (the two torches come in a pack). I was almost going to buy this last time, luckily I hadn't!

    • How much did you pay for 5D + 3AA pack?

    • yeah, how much you paid for them? :-)

    • I paid ~$30 for it :) like 29.95 or 30 I can't remember!

  • What is all this Maglight Smaglight nonsense with just 131 lumens. Just get this one and you will never look back.
At over 3000lumens im sure you will even scare the cookie monster away!

Or this one for even cheaper

    • +2

Difference is the maglite will still be working in 6 months. And neither of those would hit anywhere near the lumens they claim.

      • -1

Mine is still working. a year later. and is much brighter. might not be 3000lm but atleast 2400lm

  • +1

Can you use these with enerloops with a D size adapter?

    • ofcourse! but I think there's a disadvantage for doing that…
maybe the light will not be as bringht? or shorter battery life? not sure…

      • +1

It won't hit as hard as well.

LEDs brightness is not as sensitive to voltage drops as bulbs. And I am not sure but eneloops last quite a while compared to alkalines of the same size. Although we are talking of a AA to D comparison here. I have happily been using eneloops with D adapters for a while now.

  • Get the mother and baby delived for US$36.76 http://www.amazon.com/MAGLITE-GX01016-3-Cell-Flashlight-2-Ce…

    • Not LED according to the reviews. There is an error in the description
