What Is Stupid about This? Stay NSW Voucher

Called a few places to make last minute booking, and they all say that their reservation team is not working today.

So what happen is, most hotels reservation agents do not work on Sunday, and the voucher expires on Sunday, and it doesn't work on any online travel agency booking sites, only work at the hotel directly.

Essentially the voucher expires on Friday 5pm.

What is so stupid about this?

  • Call and ask to speak to front desk, they normally can assist with a booking.

What is so stupid about this?

The fact that you left it until the day it expires to use it.

It's a stay nsw voucher for use in many places on nsw, it is not for a limited coupons to buy newly released iPhone. It is meant to be available until the last day.

      • +2

It is. Just that the hotels you are calling don't want to deal with your voucher on a Sunday. Hardly a government issue.

I'm sorry, you are right. I only expect a better implementation of this by some sort of online booking system that works up to the last minute of expiry date, just what I would expect, also that it works with Expedia, wotif, wtc

But I guess I was wrong, so for people who read this message, please pm me by midnight, and I will send you $100 cash.

Note code must be approved by midnight

@[Deactivated]: The implementation is up to hotels etc. The government doesn't run the hotels. Other people have had no issues.

  • Your blaming the gov due to hotels not having admin staff working Sunday? Should they have just ended them 2 days ago and you would have not used them anyway?

(My wife managed to use a couple today on a booking we have next year and forgot about them, so perhaps it's more a reflection on the choice of accommodation you're calling)

    • I blame them for not putting the correct expiry day, which is Friday.

Do you think it is fair for them to set expectations that it is possible to book on Sunday, and yet it is not?

      • +4

But it was possible….I used two today for a booking

Just because you couldn't find a place to book on Sunday doesn't mean there aren't others.

You can walk into Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley right now today and book with the voucher.

Or better yet, ride your golf cart in.

  • Luckily managed to use 3 vouchers to make a booking over the phone late this afternoon. Not easy to find a decent place at a decent price which will take the vouchers over the phone/email.

What is so stupid about this?

    The irony.

  • Donate it to/get a voucher from walkabout park. There's probably still someone monitoring their inbox. You'll see when it's used on the Service app.

Yes we are still accepting vouchers.

  • Leaving it to last minute was asking for this.

I tried to get a hotel I booked over Christmas to accept the vouchers and I have emails dating back to 26 September asking for this. I had grumpy reception staff who made audible "sighs" when I said my name upon calling, they said they didn't have time to deal with this as there was queues at check in desk, or they couldn't find the booking, etc… and I did both email, and phone calls multiple times at different times of day to try to catch them when they weren't so busy. Was also told hundreds of other customers are in same boat for leaving it to last minute so they couldn't guarantee they'd process it in time before they expired, and at one point I was even told that I should stop calling so they could do their job.

AITA for calling up after the non responses to emails, and even the calls leading nowhere? For $150 on a peak season premium priced 3 nights at nearly $3k, I don't think I'm being unreasonable trying to claim the vouchers.

    • If I was treated poorly even before I stayed, I would probably cancel and book some place else. People sighing on hearing your name is not acceptable and you are paying $1000 per night.

    • Were you trying to get them applied after you had already made the booking?

I think it's just a problem depending on the hotel. I managed to book a place with vouchers very easily yesterday (Sat). They even let me use expedia which had a better price compared to their direct website.

As a taxpayer I’m grateful OP along with their negativity failed to get a booking in time

To the OP formerly known as amirite before they had a hissy fit and disabled their account because they didn't get the confirmation bias they wanted: no you are not right.

  • This is not lastminute.com. You are barking up the wrong tree.

Typical third world australia not having booking staff to cover weekends when most people want to stay in hotels at weekends. In most countries people are desperate for business but here it seems to be the case that beggars CAN be choosers.

How hard is it to book a room for someone? Its just pure laziness Aussie stylee

    • Jump online and book your room, simple. It is third world to be needing to speak to a staff when you can do it instantly anyway.

  • Dear OP, the stupid thing is that you had over 12 months to use these vouchers. Don't cry that you wanted a last-minute reservation and couldn't get one. #justsaying
