Thanks for letting us know. I will pass this time

    • +8

I'm surprised Latitude/28 are burning cash on these schemes when their customer experience is a dog's breakfast.

I'm currently overseas and am one of the many who have complained on product review about their stupid SMS verification when trying to make a purchase

      https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/28-degrees-masterc…

What sort of brain-dead idiots implement SMS verification when someone is overseas?

I've had to use other banks who let you verify through an app.

Before burning cash, I think it would make sense to address an issue which is impacting many people when travelling. The recent reviews coming in are not great.

      • +3

Pretty standard really, quite sure Westpac requires 2FA via mobile phone. Latitude has upped their game. Having said that I'm on the grandfathered price protection scheme, otherwise not sure I'll use it. CBA has more / better rewards scheme (but their application process is a dog's breakfast…)

      • +3

Thanks for the heads up, going overseas next month and was planning to rely on this card. Wonder if it makes a difference if we notify them of the overseas destination before departure so at least it is on the system to avoid SMS verification. Doesn't make any sense otherwise as most people don't have roaming turned on or even if they do, having to verify via SMS is expensive and a pain.

        • +1

Very off topic but after a bit of digging on their FAQ section, there is a section 6 on "Mastercard Securecode" which notes that at participating online retailers, they may prompt you to enter a security code via SMS before completing the transaction. So the SMS verification seems to only apply to online purchases made overseas but not to purchases made with the card physically at a merchant overseas.
          Is that your experience @arcticmonkey?

          • +4

@avivadz: Think about it, have you ever received an SMS with a verification code for an in store purchase? I don’t think so.

            • @Coops1: Wouldn't that be a pain in the arse!

            • +1

@Coops1: It is pretty common in Asia, my dad gave me his credit card and he got notified to approve purchases when the bill reached a certain amount

          • @avivadz: Many restaurants in Asia ask you to scan a QR code and purchase your food online. You're then prompted with the rubbish SMS verification.

I use another card without issues but it comes with international fees.

Even for physical transactions, I haven't been able to put some through without a pin. And I can't reset or set my pin without SMS verification.

I can't help but feel the people at Latitude are inept or they don't use the card.

I'll be looking at ING or elsewhere next time.

          • +2

@avivadz: I also ran into trouble with the required SMS verification when trying to make an account with E-scooter apps while in Europe. I guess that's considered online transaction.

      • +1

I got rid of this card because despite telling them about travel plans, they kept blocking transactions for fraud when actually travelling

        • +2

Seems like Latitude should focus on these issues before burning cash on these promotions. Either the customer experience team doesn't exist or they don't have a clue.

The fact they don't respond on Product Review or to comments on here during a promotion like this says a lot.

      • Lots of banks do this when your card is used to make a purchase online using an overseas IP. I don't know why 28 degrees should be blamed .
They charge no card fees, no international transaction fees and the physical card is easy to use when overseas. On top of those, occasional offers like this. What else do you want?

        • +2

And their amazing [grandfathered?] price protection insurance on top!

          What else do you want?

          Soft-token 2FA.
          ¯\_ (ツ)_/¯

          • -3

@TimeOrMoney: Exactly. Willz sounds like he works at Latitude. I hope he's getting paid for such a subjective reply.

          • -1

@TimeOrMoney: Got my wallet stolen once and got $200 from them. Don't know what else should I expect. lol

Good deal……but a few will pass on this one!

  • +9

12.5% is the lowest so far. First was 14.3% then 20%.

If we could get Coles or Woolworths cards this wouldn't be too bad a deal.

Edit: can super swap to Coles, but annoyingly Coles doesn't let you use gift cards for online shopping still.

    • Aw man, I missed out on these :(

    • +1

Oh really can swap to coles? Hmmm… we can always top up opal at coles

    • +26

Hack. You can buy the Super Swap. Then buy the WW EG Fuel gift card. Then add it to the WW Rewards Wallet. And it will spend it like a supermarket card when you pay with the WW Wallet.

To reveal the 6280 gift card number, add the Fuel card number to the WW Money app.

      • I use the money app for all cards anyway. Will give it a go and confirm.

      • +2

When I say "buy the WW EG" I mean, swap for it.

I can confirm this method works. Have been paying for my groceries for the past month using this method after buying Super Swaps that have been on promo.

        • Hmm. How this is called in super swap?
          I don't see 'EG …' or 'Woolworths…' or 'Caltex…' options

          • +1

            @g_bontch: Try fuel gift card

            • +1

@UrMumsOnlyFan: I can see that the "Fuel Gift Card" appears as an available retailer for the Super Swap card. However, I can't find it by trying to buy it directly from the Gift Cards section. Is it possible? (I actually just want to check the T&C on the card, to see where it can be redeemed etc.)

      • Nice hack! May be tempted by OP deal Afterall.

Fuel eGift Card can be redeemed by finding a participating service station. Please visit the Fuel Site locator.

        • +2

Thx. It was an accidental discovery.

I moved all my gift cards from the WW Money app to the WW Rewards Wallet and then next thing I know, every type of gift card got used for all my shops.

Enjoy while it lasts I guess…

          • +1

@kickling: I've loaded $5 as a trial and added in the reward app (need to prefix 628000)

          • @kickling:

            WW Rewards Wallet

            Everyday Pay?

          • @kickling: If I buy a $1000 swap card can I just swap a portion of it for a fuel card. I don't want to end up with $1000 fuel voucher that I can only buy fuel with!

      • +1

This hack is only for in-store payments at WW correct?

Doesn't seem we can use the everyday rewards wallet for online payments

        • +2

Correct. Where you scan the QR on the eftpos machine

        • He said above if you add to the money app instead of the rewards wallet you can see the code for online use.

          • +2

@kulprit: Yes, you can reveal the 6280 code but that will still be locked by shop type. You can only use it for fuel. But if you add it to the Everyday Pay wallet, it ignores the shop type and you can use it at WW and Bigw.

            • @kickling: Ahh thanks. I don't want in store but for online. Oh well

      • I am assuming this Hack is for people who can't otherwise get a 4% discount via the many Platforms / Portals / Companies listed below?
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/discounted_egift_cards

  • I've got a 28 Degrees card that predates Latitudes involvement. Is that still considered a Latitude one?

    • +1

if it predates latitude then its not a latitude card.

However you must have been issued with a new card after latitude took over. look at the small print on the bottom of the back of the card. Will say its issued by latitude etc Plus the statements you get will say latitude on it.

      • Ah, correctomundo. Ta.

      • +10

That's not correct. Once Latitude took over, the 28 Degrees cards are all Latitude cards (even if the card says issued by GE Capital).

        • +5

^^This. I've had this card since it came out. It used to be called Wizard Clear advantage. I had no problem getting any cashback in the past two 28 degrees deals.

          • +1

@Rockhard: lol I had forgotten that I started off with the "Wizard" credit card.

        • Are there any old GE cards still valid? Given that the expiry date in nearly all cases would have expired. The change was at least 6 years ago

          • @RockyRaccoon: Probably not. Standard in Australia seems to be 3 or 4 years expiry.

    • Yes, i still have a combo of black latitude and yet to expire blues

      • I really love the blue design!!

Finna be sad to seeing expire and black replacement come March

    • Approved by Predator.

    • I got my 28 degrees credit card in 2013. No problem getting the cashback last weekend.

  • +2

They're essentially the same, but 10x $100 GCs trickled in over several months (between both SB and CR) is much easier to sell than a single $1000 GC.

If this were 20% like the previous SB/Latitude deal, it'd be much easier decision!

    • +1

Looks like it's a single $1000 transaction which could be multiple cards.

      • +1

but not over several months, it has to be bought all in one shot effectively

      • As far as I can see there’s no shopping cart in the ShopBack app so it has to be multiples of the one type and denomination though(?)

  • +3

Damn that’s a lot of money. It would help if the gift card store allow to add to cart instead of only allowing to buy 1 card per transaction.

    • +1

You can add multiple of the same card (same brand + amount) but not mix & match. If you want mix & match, just get super swap.
I'll probably sit on that one. But with Xmas coming soon, could make sense.

  • Hmm is there a Bunnings $1000 we can get?

  • This is a tricky one. The list of stores is a bit limited for my liking. No Woolies or Wish?

    • No Woolies, but there is coles

      • Coles vouchers can only be used in store, have no app and are clumsy to use. Besides, I mainly shop at Woolies.

  • +4

Poor deal really. Unless someone needs to spend the entire amount straight away, you get better deals constantly

    • +5

Plus you got to run the gauntlet with Shopback. It’s risky unless you are going to spend the $1K right away.

      • +4

I got both cashback within minutes, and you pay for a gift card, which is just prezzee white branding.
Just buy super swap, transfer it to the prezzee app and swap with whatever gc / amount you need when you need it.

  • I guess it's not bad if you're doing a Bunnings renovation

    • You can swap for IKEA too

  • +1

This will come in handy if your planning to get a ps5. 🤞 Stock wont be an issue come christmas time.

  • +3

If they couldn't tempt me with $50 on $350 don't think they'll have much luck with less for more.

  • +10

That's a big commitment for risk of a failed cashback, pass for me

    • +2

I get that failed cashback is a real issue for a lot of these companies (and Shopback seems to have more complaints than most) but has anyone really had issues with gift cards? It's a purchase from Shopback through their app that is stored in your account so surely no dramas?

    • -1

Also the way this is set up, if, touch wood, Shopback would ever disappear / go bankrupt / be insolvent what not, and you bought Shopback Super Swap Gift Cards: Good luck trying to chargeback. Your $1000 would probably be gone, as you would received a $1000 Super Swap Cards (regardless if you can't redeem those for further shops).

Unlikely to happen, but similar to when crypto went downhill, it would hurt a lot of average Joes.

  • +2

    Pass

  • +2

I already got enough superswap vouchers to use at Coles/Amazon/Ubereats as i used mine and mrs card on the previous deal. I will have to skip this deal, would have jumped on it if there was some way to spend it on wish gift cards

  • Pass

  • Will skip this deal.

  • +1

Meanwhile, my $50 cashback is still pending.

    • +2

That's not right. Challenge on gift cards usually confirmed in 3 days

  • +2

For those looking for JB/Apple gift cards, would not this fare better than Flybuys/Everyday rewards points related deals which are at about 10% or so

  • +1

So other than the oversized $1K spend requirement, using Coles/Amazon GC as example, has there been better rates lately, even considering rewards points ones?

  • Why is everyone passing? It's free money is it not?

    • Not a shopback user currently
  • Anyone know why the GO Mastercard seems to miss out whilst being a Lattitude Financial card?

  • got sooooo many gift cards already to use lol I'll pass this time

  • +1

Can anyone with a smarter brain than me tell me if e.g. 10x $100 SuperSwap GCs in one transaction qualifies?

    • +2

      Yes

      • Thank you!

    • Whats the rationale over buying a $1000 one?

      • This, I'd buy the $1000 instead of multiples.
I made the mistake of swapping for $18 JB hi-fi and I've got $2 I'll have to forfeit (big deal lol)

        • Could you elaborate I don't understand

          • +4

            @capslock janitor: I bought $175 super swap
            Swapped for
            $25 JB
            $18 jb
            $50 Kmart
            $50 ikea
            Hence I've got $32 left.
You can only swap fixed denominations per brand. None have $7/$12/$27 etc…

But fuel gift card has $8 hence may be able to do 4*$8 lol

      • I've never bought one of these before so I thought each GC can only be swapped for the purchased denomination for 1 retailer (i.e. a $1000 swap GC can only be swapped for a $1000 Amazon GC) is that not the case?

        • +3

You can split it across as many retail gift cards as you like

        • +1

Nah that's the beauty of it, see my comment above.

  • Can buy Woolworths gift card?

    • Not available with shopback
