Is the sound better on the Flip or the Charge?

Hope its not as good as the Sony SRSX-B23B I just paid $5 more for…

Having owned almost every generation of both the Flip & Charge, the Charge is a significantly fuller sound. The bass extends lower, and it's louder too. The Flip 5 being a 20w speaker compared to 40w on the Charge 5 makes this quite clear :)

      • I'm very happy with my Charge 4. I won't bother with Charge 5, plus they dont have the flap to protect the ports from sand/dust

        • Charge 4 is 30W and I've compared it side by side with a Charge 5. The only difference is that the Charge 5 is a little louder and clearer. The charge 4 with a good EQ can sound really good, minizing the need for the extra tweeter (found in the 5).

From memory I think the Charge 4 was $99 on a deal a while back, so if you managed to pick it up back then, that would have been an absolute steal.

          • @Zackeroo: Na, I got it when it was the current model. Low $100'ish.
I've never had to turn it up full - its loud enough. We are not audiophiles - it's actually our main household speaker if we listen to music. That and the sound bar in the media room.
Really like the Charge, its makes a good entertainment system substitute if ones not picky - and the portability is fantastic. I take it outside if I do yard work etc. And events like kids birthday, picnics etc

I thought about getting a second one, at those clearance sales prices, for stereo. But the prospect of needing the 3rd party JBL app put me off.

            • @Skullytor: Fair enough. It is a pretty good competitor against cheaper, smaller soundbars. I'm also thinking of getting a second charge 4 as it is the speaker I mostly use. I too would want to grab one at clearance sale prices haha.

@Skullytor: Everywhere I'm looking the charge (looked at both 4 and 5) is at least 2 times the price of this flip.
I'm wanting to buy the better one but not for 2x the price

  • Is it louder and more suited to parties ?

    • +1

I got the flip 4 and they can go pretty loud

      • Thanks !
        Saved me $30 :)

  • Why pink cheaper?

    • +6

Likely the pink colour is not selling.

      • It’s basically less than half the price of the Flip 6.

I went in store and they had the navy blue ones for $80 also. The matte black one was $90 or $95. They just dont have the other colours online.

      Reverse pink tax.

Bluetooth 4.2 according to reviews so there is audio lag when watching online videos like on YouTube.

  • Anyone else only showing click and collect? No deliver option?

  • Showing free delivery in QLD ?

  • OP mentioned "$10 off for new accounts too." Does anyone know what this is, can't find any information on website regarding that.

Sign up to the newsletter, but the email can take hours..

    • its $134 for JBL charge 5

    • Got a splash screen saying $10 off for first orders. I assume everyone is seeing the same?

  • +2

I would pay a bit more ($104 I think ) to get the charge 5 instead from TGG commercial,

    • yes, with bt 5.1

    • Yeah, that would be great… except it is $134.00 on TGGC

  • Has anyone got experience with this this against the Tribit Stormbox. Thinking of getting another Stormbox and have been always happy with the sound and battery life of it. With the discount code they are currently $84 on Amazon

  • OOS EVERYWHERE

  • FYI - the Flip 5 has a rather loud and obnoxious shutdown sound that can't be disabled (not even with the JBL app). The sound occurs when the Flip automatically shuts off after inactivity, which is rather startling if you're using it to play music/sounds to fall asleep to… 😑
