MSI Mag27c Monitor

Hi everyone - was wondering if this monitor is worth $150 second hand? I am looking to purchase it from a friend but would be great to get someone’s view that knows about monitors

  • It's possibly cheap if it serves your purposes, possibly expensive if it doesn't. Eg. monitor would be fine for most day-to-day, but may not be as good as others for gaming.

However, you can get a higher resolution monitor (1440p) for about $150 on FB marketplace too. Your friend's is 1080p, I believe.

  • It's a 27inch 1920x1080 resolution, 85% NTSC, 144Hz refresh rate, 1ms response time VA panel, which is fine for playing games but a very run of the mill display if you intend to use it for productivity.

Resolution refers to how much information a monitor can display — the higher, the better.

1080p is very much the standard for smaller sized monitors (20~24 inches) however in 2022, it is below average for medium sized ones like 27" to 32". You'd typically want 1440p for those larger sizes. Recommend you try out the monitor in person before you buy it so you know what to expect from the image quality.

  • If youre in Melbourne, I'll be moving on a 27" 1440p 144hz monitor soon.
