  • Planning to port from boost to woolworths (esim). As they both use Telstra network, is there any issue to do so?

    • +3

No issue at all, just did this a few days ago. New esim activated within 20min.

      • Thanks mate. :)

      • Do you buy the woollies sim first, then convert it to esim and finally port your number from boost to woolies?

        • +2

Choose esim at the very beginning of your woolworths sim-only long expiry plan purchase. They let you choose physical sim or esim.

    • +9

Boost has full telstra network and VoWiFi & VoLTE!

      • But no esim so can't go sim whoring with others

      • +3

Apparently it's going to be rolled out for woolies from the 18th: https://whrl.pl/RgweFW

        • Let me know how this goes tomorrow!
That would be a killer feature for me in my ground floor apartment.

          • +1

@thorry123: Will do. In this day and age these things should be provided by all providers, if anything it eases congestion on their actual mobile networks if more people use wifi instead.

    • I've got spotty reception with the esim in metro Sydney. Sometimes it just won't load webpages for 10-20 secs.

      • +1

I have similar experience.. just holding out because of the monthly disc & GC disc..

    • I moved from Telstra mothership to Woolies and it was a massive pain and took them almost a week to activate me.

    • +1

I did this a year ago, found Woolworths Mobile's reception and speeds awful. No VoWiFi, VoLTE or visual voicemail with Woolworths Mobile either FYI. Had to port back to Boost (so glad that I did).

If you're in it for the savings, go for it, but if you can't sacrifice speed/reception, stick with Boost.

      • Reception issues is relative, not everyone will have it

      • I travel often, so my experience is based around Melbourne (CBD, Western and Eastern suburbs), Sydney (CBD), Newcastle, Hobart (CBD and Northern suburbs).

Of course, YMMV, but for me it was just too unbearable. Often in CBD areas and rural areas I would have 4-5 bars, but no or very slow data speeds.

    • Boost uses full Telstra retail network. Woolworths uses Telstra wholesale network. Compare the maps.

      • +1

I went from Boost to Woolworths and I’ve already noticed the difference. I now have 1 bar at home when I had 3 before.

    • Does woolies support VOLTE and VOWiFi? I didn't think it did.

I know Boost does so just be cautious of this.

  • +6

Boost full Telstra, others, wholesale network

  • International calls ?
I'm on 365 days 60gb amaysim for $60 plan, only missing international calls.

    • +1

      No
You need to buy an add on

    • +1

      $5 addon per month

    • Ahh that's a pretty terrible deal. I'm pre paid boost and I pay 30$ a month for 30 gb…

      • I am on boost too but haven't paid anything in past couple of months due to the recent promos by cash rewards

      • that's a pretty terrible deal

It may not include international calls but $60 for the year is pretty good.

        • does 60 gbs last you the whole year? I think i go through 15 to 20 gb a month

          • @girafficlight:

            does 60 gbs last you

It does for me, expires Dec and I’m not even 50% through.

I don’t watch a lot of video when out and about though and use an adblock DNS

            • +1

@0jay: dang that's a lot of savings then!

              • @girafficlight:

                that's a lot of savings

Sweetest deal ever for me, hoping I can repeat it in Dec!

          • +1

@girafficlight: I work from home 3 days a week and have wifi at work, hence I've used only 10gb in 4months so far.
Overall 5gb a month is decent. Especially for the price (I had 50% off)
            YMMV

      • +1

        You're paying 6* the price for 6* the data…
Failing to see how your deal is not as terrible:-p

        • yea same ahah, i guess i would fly through the 60 gb of data was my point.

    • -1

      um

  • If I'm on woolworths 65$ 365 plan already, can get this 140$ recharge/365 plan then it'll apply to my plan now and just extend it? Rather losing my remaining days. Anyone done this before?

    • +1

AFAIK if you recharge you forfeit the remaining days from old plan.

    • +1

I don't believe that WW make these plans available on the sale rates to existing customers. Not exactly rewarding loyalty is it? New customers get a "deal" whereas existing curstomers have to renew at full price.

    • +6

What the hell do you need faster than 100mbps?

      • +5

        Refresh Ozbargain deals page?

    • 100mbps speed is fine, I’ve been using 20mbps on felix for over 1 month and then just tried Optus and got 650mbps on 4G. I can’t tell a lick of difference. But I can tell the difference on felix when I could tether unlimited data and did over 500gb. I’ve only got 55gb with Optus now.

The annoying thing. If not down right (profanity) scam. Is that they didn’t up the data allowance.

They’ve capped the speeds but lowered the data amounts. And kept the price the same.

(profanity) these main networks now. Optus and Telstra.

If my spectrum allocation is 6x less demanding on the network. Why is my data limit and cost per GB the same? Hope the ACCC spanks them on this one. This + 28 day bullshit.

    • Woolworths Mobile always had a 100Mbps speed cap, same with all the other Telstra Wholesale MVNOs. It's just being shown upfront to differentiate it between the 5G and 4G cap

      • Actually Belong has a 100Mbps cap on their two lowest plans and 180Mbps on their highest plan, but that's $70/month and they're owned by Telstra anyways so.. that doesn't count :)

  • +1

Any opportunity to get an extra option to get some data for my Apple Watch? Thanks for the deal!

    • Not yet. Mentioned as coming soon on Whirlpool forums.

  • what is the regular price?

  • +9

The 10% off once a month is awesome.

    • +3

      Isn't it ever!
I'm on the 12 month $150 plan - works out to be $12.50/month. So if I use this on a grocery shop of $125 or more (easy to do) then I basically have a free phone bill for the month.
Not only that, there is a well know 'glitch' where if you use the 10% off for an online shop first, you will still be able to use the 10% off in store, giving you 2 per month instead of 1!
So my $12.50/month sim plan ends up saving me about $30/month.

      • How to use it online, Please?

        • +1

This months 10%-off online code for Woolworths is OCT2022 and you use it as a promo code during checkout. Every month's code follows the same format.

      • Wow really? That’s awesome hope they don’t nerf this glitch

        • +2

Glitch has been working for a few years now

      • what really? please explain. I have done online shopping and it doesn't ask me

        • +1

you enter the code. its always MMMYYYY e.g OCT2022

      • If you already used the discount instore, online won't work anymore?

    • +1

Yup pretty much pays for it if you do a decent grocery shopping each month

  • I can’t access the site, it says the website is being updated?

    • +1

yeah its down for maint, only the mobile app is accessible but that's only if u want to recharge

    • me too

  • Anyone knows if the line will still work when you go overseas? i.e. getting calls and messages (bank for example).

  • 5% off woolsworth gift cards? Where?

  • +1

Woolworth's Mobile SIM shipping is a joke, ordered the $150 Prepaid online and waiting for 2 weeks and only just shipped now so another week before it arrives. Try to call and wait for 45mins for customer service to tell me it was delayed?? expect better from Woolworth's! I cancelled and asked for a refund and will go with a more reputable provider.

    • +2

They're sold at any Woolworths store

  • I'm currently looking for a new plan, hoping to move to a Telstra network. Would reception be the same with Woolworths and Boost since they are both under Telstra, or be base on a sim vs esim?

P.S. I've never used esim before

  • Will I get 2x 10% off shops per month if I already have a current 10% off offer on my card?

    • +2

No. I have ww mobile and ww card both of which are eligible for 10% and yet I only get one if both are linked to the same everyday rewards card.
I actually got a second everyday rewards card just so I could use the second 10% on it.

      • Thanks. I might have to do this.

  • Has anyone had any experience using a SIM and eSIM at the same time?

I want a second number and my Pixel 6 pro doesn't support physical dual SIM but does support SIM + eSIM.

Haven't been able to find many mvno that even offer eSIM so wondering if this would work?

    • +1

      Should work.
Just need to check depending on the phone if it's 2 * voice stand by, or 1 * voice and 1 * data
Would be surprised if you couldn't have 2 voice service in a just released flagship model.

    • +3

My wife has an iPhone, but it has the same limitation, one eSIM, one SIM. She is currently travelling so I switched her to Woolworths last deal just to get the Australian eSIM, and use an overseas physical SIM.

It works perfectly. She can get calls and SMSes from both SIMs, and for outbound you just select which SIM is the default for voice/SMS, and which is the default for data. I believe you can also customise the SIM per contact.

    • Yes will work, I have Woolies esim as main and use the physical sim for whoring with other providers

      • I'm intrigued, can you explain this whoring?

        • +1

So I have esim Woolies and for the physical sim I'm using the free 28 day 55GB boost (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/728529) physical sim. When boost is finished going to move to whichever provider advertises a special :)

          • @FeZZa21: Thanks, so it's mainly for getting more data for you phone. What mobile phone do you use?

            • +1

@nhutty: Sure, but I just get the free specials like boost as a 2nd Sim. I have a Samsung Fold 4

      • How easy is it to change phone with an esim? I change once-twice a year

        • +1

Pretty easy, there's a "change esim" button in your account, scan a new QR code and you're done

          • @FeZZa21: Oh cheers, got partner to move to Woolies, meant to move her to esim on iPhone too.

  • Not a good experience with it in regards to reception and data speeds during the last 12 mths as I have a 5G phone, been to Vic, NT and regional NSW, it is not the same as Telstra, Boost full Telstra, others, Wholesale network only with 3/4G. Back to Optus full network, 50% off sim plan, I am happy beside the Optus hack.

    • +1

      Wholesale network only with 3/4G

      Belong currently offering 5G

  • Anyone actually experienced 5G with Woolies before? Coverage map shows it but when you zoom 5g disappears.

    • n/m looks like they've updated their website to say long expiry plans are 4G only, and 5G trial is for the monthly pre/post paid plans. after the trial ends in Feb 2023, 5G will only be available on the $59 5G plan. also both 4G and 5G is capped to 100mbps

  • No wifi calling :(

    • Apparently that and volte is coming according to woolies

  • I might get this for my daughter as she will be starting highschool soon and will probably need a phone plan. Any other comparable prepaid deals?

I'm currently on boost prepaid myself

  • I signed up to this and didn’t realise the eSIM gets activated/ported immediately. I even checked with customer care first and they said I’ve got up to 60 days to activate. Aside from that was a really simple process.

  • How would these guys compare to Boost? Currently with Boost prepaid the past two years on the $200 plan that I got for $150 and I think $130 the year before. Is the woolworths coverage as good as Boost (I'm in rural WA so that is why I chose Boost originally).

I need to find something as I've only got a few days left on my current boost plan. Not sure if I should buy one of the current OZB Boost deals and try and get them to port my number over to the new sim.

    • Buy a cheap one month plan and churn to buy yourself time. May even be able to come back to boost if a good deal pops up

      • So switch over to Woolies for a month or so and wait for something like Black Friday sales? Do you have someone in mind that I could switch over to that has a reasonable monthly plan?

        • Check this page out

            • @ShouldIBuyIt: Thanks. Will have a look when I get home as I have to go to work right now.

            • @ShouldIBuyIt:

              Can't beat free plan

Optus network though, won’t tell you much about Telstra MVNOs in your area

              • @0jay: Beggars can't be choosers.
I'm with amaysim (optus mvno) and it's fine in my area. YMMV

                • +1

                  @ShouldIBuyIt:

Me too but Ice009’s located rural WA and was asking about Telstra wholesale
