This post reads like such a scam, I had to check whether the link was legit and not taking you to a phishing site

Ray Bans are rip-off anyway. They cost less than $5 to make, sell them for $200 and offer arbitrary "discounts" making you think you're getting a deal.

The parent company Luxottica controls the market by maintaining an oligopoly buying label rights and physical stores (Sunglass Hut, OPSM and others are owned by them to push their products).

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luxottica

But people can't get enough of the tiny brand label on the lens…

      • Any other brand equivalent to this?

        • This is like old news, Ray-Ban is expensive even before Luxottica came to the picture. Its just a fashion accessorie.
Thats like asking another brand equivalent of LV but fraction of the price ?

Type "polarized sunglasses" in aliexpress and find good fakes with UV400 made in China. I've been rocking mine for years and barely notice the weight difference between the fake and my real ray-bans after minutes of wear

          • @Charbzilla: That's some interesting selective trust - knowing it's a fake Ray Ban but genuine UV400.

Not saying it isn't - but how could you know?

@cyssero: @cyssero you never trust as youve correctly pointed out. One could buy 10-20 dollar sunnies from aliexpress (i have about 6 of them) and a 20 dollar UV flashlight from amazon, as well as UVA/UVB "tester cards" and check the UV protection yourself. Many videos on youtube on how to check UV protection. You are quite right though, never trust, but for a whole magnitude difference in price, one ought to buy at proper market prices for sunnies, ~20 dollars max. Prices at 10x this is just absurd - paying for fashion mark-ups and not protection mark-ups. Just my 2 cents.

        • I have sensitivity to light, have tried several brands but nothing came close to the comfort and lens quality of Ray-Ban.

I recently bought Hawkers, 2 for like $100 sometimes you can get 3 in that price too. They have been okay but I just use them as a spare.

          • @abs898: You'd want more the wrap around style, as opposed to the minimalist stylized designs I would imagine

@Charbzilla: Need quality lens tbh, a good UV400 helps. I even tried a few Cat 3 sunglasses.

I love this brand , every glass is a Polarised glass https://knockaround.com/ , There lenses don't scratch easily . I owned a pair of Rayban , Oakley and these knockaround glasses are the best sunglasses I have seen and for such a good price

FYI : Price listed in US dollars

  • Is the site down? Can't add items to cart.

    • Yeah crapping itself

  • Just bought one.
For those that care, sunglasshut should be able to price match, but on the exact same model, colour etc.
