Just went to specsavers today and got one pair of the ultralight (399) and one pair of Marc Jacob’s sunnies (299) and came to $199.
The Lite includes the following lenses (this came from my receipt):

Super Clean SV 1.6
High Index Material
Multi/Anti Refl. Coat
Ultra SV
Hard Coating

I have a light prescription but do wear glasses when watching telly and driving.

My current health fund paid in fully and I wasn’t out of pocket.

Offer available in store for all prescriptions and online for +/-6. Includes single vision lenses. Both pairs for the same person. Excludes the $149 range or below unless purchased together with a higher value frame. Other lens types and options available at an extra cost. Use with other offers restricted. Offer valid until 4 October 2025.

theres been more and more of these 'deals', i have a feeling the frames were never worth 399….zenni optical has saved me lots

    • That’s true. But I just like to get my free glasses from my health fund. It’s a nice bonus to get free anti reflective or polarised (when they run that offer).

      • How often do they run the free anti reflective or polarised? This deal includes the anti reflective but not the polarised?

    • I just did the buy one pair for 149 at SS recently and used health fund. Now I have a better idea of what other frames I would like to try I am going to look at the online cheap shops which I think zenni is one. In the previous specsavers thread other people mentioned the in-store owndays shops in oz but they seem to be not much cheaper than specsavers - but they probably seem to have more stock options.

    • Ths is following the Coles/Woolworths way of selling. Increase the prices and then constantly have 'sales' where the prices are what they used to be.

  • How do you use the promo code in-store?
    Just show this post?

In store it says everywhere any 2 pairs for $199. No code needed.

  • Whats the range for transitions lens. Anyone buy /use them ?

    • +1

transition from clear to dark? +80 per pair.

1 pair for 149 2 pairs for 199 any brands

Yeah I went looking into transitions/reaction lenses recently. Have a read of this thread to find out more and help make a decision. It's a good laugh too.

The specsavers brand of transitions is called reactions.

  • This was running till Sept 13.. looks like they have extended it to Oct 4th.

No the 149 for any pair was running till sept 13 which I did before the 13th. The 2 pairs for 199 was running concurrently and had the later cut off date of oct 4th. I made my decision based on health fund rebate maxing out at 200 and also I could only find one frame pair that I liked in the store. One other pair was close to what I wanted but not close enough.

I bought it on Sept 11 and I was offered any two pair for 199 and I was told it is till Sept 13..

  • I just paid $469 last Thursday for 2 pairs in-store. Looks like my local Specsavers ripped me off.

    • I'd go back and question that if you bought single vision lenses. I went in a week ago also, and paid the 2 for $199.

      • It depends what lenses you added? Just go in and check anyway.

        • Yeah I'll go and check when I pick them up next week. I do have very cursed vision - astigmatism in both eyes, but they're still single vision lenses.
I have the AR coating to help with driving and the lenses thinner otherwise my left eye lens is 12mm thick at the thickest point.

Perhaps the frames weren't expensive enough to come with some included lens options like OP. The thinning alone shouldn't have made a $270 difference though.

They don't make it easy by mangling the receipt too, nothing is itemised properly because it "makes it easier for health funds".

          • @Wilburre: This is why I don't get excited at 2 for $199. Cause by the time my glasses are thinned, coated and usable it is a $500 bill no matter what. Zenni sales end up same glasses (lenses really) costing 1/3rd the price.

I think with Zenni I got 2 for just over $200.

Specsavers don't like having to give out the prescription :D

            • @StorminNorman: Have always just taken it from Specsavers because of how hard it is to get frames that fit my massive boof head.
If I can't get the same frames next time I'll definitely check out zenni.

They reckon "without discounts" it was $850 or something somehow which is some creative mathematics.

Specsavers make all their money from lenses which you must have anything beyond the most basic of script.

Pro tip - take your prescription and buy online. My chinese glasses cost me just over $100 for the pair which would have cost me around $500 at SS

  • Looks like a great deal. Did you have to get prescription lenses on the sunnies, or did you only have to get the prescription lenses on the non sunnies? Thank you for sharing this.

    • Yes. All prescriptions, you can have distance or readers (if old enough lol)

  • My current health fund paid in fully and I wasn’t out of pocket.

Interested to know what you're on. I've got bupa but they only pay $150 optical.

    • At the moment it’s Queensland Country. I am a churner. With Bupa it depends. Do you have $150 as the limit? Then you would be $50 out of pocket. Just look at the limits.

    • Have a look at HIF. I am getting $325 back from optical.

    • I have Bupa and me, my wife and my daughter have all got new glasses from Spec savers this week at zero cost.

      • how much did bupa cover? I think it is probably cos I'm on the lowest extras haha

        • They covered everything, we're on choice 60 extras.

  • Just got quoted $52 extra for anti reflective coating on top of the $199 for 2 pairs

    • My antireflective is included in the thin glasses option, otherwise it’s extra.

  • Damnit

I literally ran over my prescription sunglasses today at 5pm
And this offer apparently finishes today

    Murphy's law

    • Online too tho
