Philips Water Instant Heating Water Station + 7 Filters $199.99 Delivered @ Costco Online (Membership Required)

180

I paid $280 for this last month and only felt a slight pang of regret at not waiting for this deal. An excellent price for a great instant hot water dispenser. Could not find it cheaper than this when I did my research last month. The 7 filters included is worth around $50, although you can apparently use BRITA filters as well. I love mine! (AMA)

There is an all-in-one water station as well by Phillips, but I could not justify the extra price for chilled water. (Costco deal for that one ended a few weeks ago.) This one does ambient, 40, 70, 80, 90 and 100 degrees. 150ml, 250ml, 300ml, 400ml, 500ml or continuous. 2.2L tank. I've had no issues with leaking, but I did find when you stop it, a little bit more water still comes out and there's a few drops after that. So you have to leave the cup in there for a bit unless you're happy emptying the drip tray more often. The child lock is easy to turn off (no holding down buttons for a few seconds), which makes it painless to use but still good to keep out of reach for kids. It is VERY quiet, I was expecting a very loud pressure noise like you get with capsule coffee machines or other hot water dispensers, but it was not noisy at all.

Yes you can pay $69 for a Kmart one that you can't adjust and startles you awake in the morning.. but does it have an inbuilt filter?! ;) I've packed my kettle away now.

  • So tempting :(

How much power would this use daily to keep water boiling hot?

    • That's the number 1 question I'd be wanting to find an answer on.

    • +8

It doesn't keep water hot, it's instantly heating the water and dispensing it.

    • This! My partner constantly has a tea cup in her hand and turns on the electric kettle to re-boil the water throughout the day. Wondering if this would save on the long run

      • would like to know too

      • instruction manual says rated power consumption is 2000W-2400W

        • how is that compared to a electric kettle?

          • +2

@he11bent: kettle is 2400w. re this item, i hope 2000-2400 means "while dispensing" and close to 0w while on standby

      • +1

Yes this would pay itself off over time. Only uses power on demand. So no need to fill the kettle to the minimum line to make one cup of tea, etc. And waste energy boiling water that isn't needed

      • I'd recommend using a few insulated flasks to have hot water at the ready. Saves energy.

      • +4

Assume a fixed amount of energy is required to heat a cup of water.

A kettle supplies this energy through the element in it's base to the entire contents of the kettle, until all the contents are 100C

This device would need to supply that energy to the element in the dispenser tubing, only to the amount of water passing through it.

Since you are only heating the exact amount of water you need, there would be some energy saved.

    • This only instantly boils the water you need (150ml or 250ml) and took around 20 seconds (depends the volume). So basically it will save some energy to kettle (except you will use all the boiling water). But this doesn’t has temperature options, right?

      • This station takes way less time than a kettle does, and only heats up what you need!

  • Bought, worst case can always return.
It's more about the convenience of not having to constantly boil water from the kettle.

I drink several hot teas a day, so got one of these. The problem is that even on the highest setting, the device can't heat up the water over 85-90 degrees. So, my regular black tea just ended up weak and flavourless. I went back to the kettle after a few weeks of trying.

    • Just leave the teabag in to steep. Thats what I do with my cheapo $60 instant hot water unit

    • +1

thanks for mentioning. this is a dealbreaker for me

      • +1

        Yeah same.

    • For the kmart one you just pour out the first 20ml that isn't warm then start it again and it's alot hotter.

    • +1

which is a perfect temperature for brewing black tea

I have different model, but I think one should be the same. The first 2 seconds of water come out is cold, thow it away and warm up your cup, refill again should be hotter, I lifted my cup near the tube so less heat losing.

    • When the water drops from the spout, as the volume of water is lower than the gushing of a kettle, it does lose a couple of degrees. Also it comes out at a height more than what you would pour a kettle, so again losing a little heat by the time it reaches your cup. I read in previous posts hot water dispensers like this commonly dispense water at approx 95-98 degrees. For me, it was hot enough :) A kettle does NOT maintain 100 degree water anyway, by the time you come back and lift it up after going away to wait for it to boil, it will have dropped several degrees already.

  • Can't you buy and return, thought costco has generous return period

    • Yes you can! You can give whatever reason you want and return it if you are unsatisfied. Their returns process is good.

  • How much is the filter replacement ?

  • +1

Is it possible to dispense room temp water?

  • Can I buy this in-store at Docklands, VIC?

  • I bought a cheap one from Australia Post. Love using it and tossed the kettle out. Fill it with water out of by Brita jug.
I drink a lot of hot water and use to fill up a themo to save boiling the kettle. Now hot water instantly.

  • Do you need to use the filters? My water is already filtered so replacing these would be added expense.

    • No you don't. The design of it means the filter section sits in the middle of the tank. The dispensing of the water into the machine in no way relates to the filter being present or not.

  • I got the aldi heated water unit for like $50. Have had no issues with it. What does this do that the cheaper units don't do

    • My cheap unit only has one temperature setting and one fill size or continuous. Problem is that my cups are much bigger and I need to press the button twice. This Philips one potentially saves me from doing so

      • This one has 5 temps and 4 different sizes

    • Having not seen the Aldi one I would suggest maybe
      - Build quality
      - Tank size
      - Inbuilt filter
      - Better child lock system
      - Tea button

      However I am only guessing…

Have had the Kmart version running fine for 2 years now. Save yourself $100+.

    • Is it hot enough for black tea?

  • +1

"although you can apparently use BRITA filters as well"

OP, could you please confirm this? Thank you

    • Amazon listing has people asking the same question with the response being YES you can. If you'd like me to personally check it out, I'd have to do it on next refill of both the station and my jug :)

  • I have different brand, but I think this one should be the similar except my one has room/55/70/85/95/100 degrees options.
Noted: if you want the hottest water? The first 2 seconds of water come out is cold, thow it away and warm up your cup, refill again and your cup of water should be hotter, I lifted my cup near the tube so less heat is losing as well.

  • "There is an all-in-one water station as well by Phillips"
I returned that all-in-one model after less than 3 months normal usage as the heating component stopped working.
Then I paid $280 for this model last month. So far no issues and the only difference that I can feel is that this model has a smaller water tank.
I am thinking about going through the buy-and-return hassle to save $80. But I will try asking the customer support first.

    • Oooooh I didn't think about buying and returning it. I cbf! But let me know if customer support works. I believe the policy for paying back the savings difference is only valid for 30 days since purchase. I bought mine in early Sept so didn't bother. Hope you have better luck!

  • Good deal!
    bought 1 for myself
