[WA] OzBargain 16th Birthday - Perth Vic Park Meetup - Sunday 13 November @ Pachi Pachi Vic Park 12PM

OzBargain is turning 16th in November!

Howdy all my fellow 'quiet' Perth people! Let's make this event happen so people looking at the above link aren't going to ask "since when did Australia only have 5 states?".

Hoping to just put together a simple lunch event somewhere in Victoria Park (6100). Was eyeing something like Taro Taro…. as there's food, drinks and desserts. Can't go wrong with fried chicken, bbt, and a taro dessert…. right?

I can also facilitate a $5 deposit (fully refundable - but eh, I don't think we're as wild as those NSW/VIC people and surely we'll get 100% attendance - right?)

Open to other suggestions for where we can meet - Vic Park does have a lot of food places… Also parking is pretty good here (if you know where to look - we can map this out for everyone).

Let the voting begin!

Thanks all.

Update 1:

This event is confirmed to be held at Pachi Pachi (Vic Park). If you haven't received a PM from me yet, and have voted, please reach out to me asap so I can be sure there's a seat for you at the royal table =).

Menu for Pachi Pachi can be found here: https://imgur.com/a/FDug67p.

Thank you to all who voted and have responded! See you at 12:00PM!

Update 2:

Hi all, everything with the restaurant is finalised and I'm closing the attendance list now. I'm building a reserved list (currently at 2), so if you were still thinking of wanting to come, let me know and I'll add you to the list.

For others who have confirmed to come, if you are unable to make it - please let me know ASAP so I can reach out to the members on the reserved list.

Thanks all!

Update 3:

For those attending, I am unsure if the shirts will arrive on time…. I will keep you all posted. If it doesn't arrive on time, then I'll work out another way to get shirts to you.

Thanks all.

Update 4:

Unfortunate news but the shirts aren't arriving till after the event. I will reach out to attendees to work out the best way to get a shirt to you. If you are attending mmd's or Michael's event then you will get a shirt from that event. Thanks all, stay tuned in DMs for more info.

Update 5:

Hi all, Thanks everyone for attending today!! Had a great time meeting you all! Celebratory photo! https://imgur.com/a/TjzduwR.

Happy 16th birthday Ozbargain!! Thanks Scotty!

    You need another poll option:
The reason I am on Ozbargain is to reduce my need to interact with people, so, why would I go to something like this?

  • +2

Palace arcade would be a good bet

  • +4

Damn, that's the week I'm away at work. It's not Vic Park, but planet Royale in Northbridge isn't a bad place for events, I've been to a few events hosted their and it's always been pretty good (similar to palace arcade but bigger). Food, alcohol, cocktails and Arcade machines.
    *Also closed Sunday / Mondays

@mnd who organised last year's event, was keen to organise/help organise this year's - and had thought about Mack Daddy's in Mount Lawley.

Personally, for me, it also needs to be somewhere wheelchair accessible, and close to public transport.

I may be able to attend this years, although it would depend on the time, I've got another commitment mid-afternoon for a few hours.

  • +1

    Suggestions:

CBD venue, for CPP free 3-hour weekend parking, and train commute.
Agree with Palace Arcade. Lucky and Sons (Forrest Chase) and other arcade-y venues for consideration. One has AYCE pizza…
Those willing to bring an item they purchased from OzBargain, either extra or remorse - less than $5 value, to be raffled off to attendees as part of the F2F program.

Will the shirts be ready by then? How about the week after?

  • Can the lead advise if this lunch is free as the other cities organisers say that meals are free and covered by Oz bargain is that right?

    • +2

Please see the original post. OzBargain will be paying for the food & venue of the meetup to celebrate 16 years of this website.

East Vic park and Vic park are the place to be for great food choices and options. We have a few choices for restaurants in Vic Park and East Vic park for malaysian cuisine:. Penang Village Malaysian Delights, Mari Mari Malaysian Cuisine, Kandar Corner,. Choices for Indian Cuisine is: Spicy Affair Indian Restaurant, British India Restaurant, C
olaba Social, Himalayan Nepalese Restaurant. Pub style cuisine: Victoria Park Hotel, Balmoral Hotel, the Globe Pan & Grill. Mexican cuisine: Pancho's Mexican Villa Restaurant

    • Hi there, thanks for this. Just confirming final numbers and I noticed your DMs are closed. Can you enable and let me know if you're able to make it? Cheers!

  • From the options above I think Planet Royale in Northbridge has the most variety of food, drinks & amusements whilst still being reasonably central.

  • Sounds fun! Anyone else planning to attend solo but has never really interacted with the community before? šŸ˜…
Feel free to send me a message if anyone is in the same boat, or just wanting to make a friend. šŸ˜

Hey guys, I think Vic Park is a great place to hang out and have a fun time. Love the food and ambiance at the restaurants in Vic Park. Plenty of parking too. Some good places I've tried before and recommend that we could go to are: Mari Mari, Himalayan Nepalese, Funky momo, Good fortune roast duck house, Garden Thai, and Pachi Pachi.

To those who cant make this one - i have created another meetup here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/733176
Please check out and vote if u can make it

  • +3

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. @mmd thanks for organising another Perth event as well dude! I've updated my post to easily point people to yours.

Since mmd is organising his at Planet Royale, I'm considering having mine at Pachi Pachi so we have a variety of food. I've been to Pachi Pachi countless times and the food has always been awesome. A great range of food, desserts and drinks.

Just called up Pachi Pachi and they can easily seat 15 of us inside on Sunday 15th November from 12:00PM onwards (they close at 2:00PM). 2 hours should be enough time to talk about eneloops, who has the most Qantas/Velocity points, Coles gift cards, mobile phone deals from JB/HN/Telstra and any other major deals.

I'll modify the poll to add some places to get some votes going. Still scouting out other areas in the Vic Park area as there's some pretty good places to eat.

Regarding the shirts, I'll need to see if they will arrive on time.

Thanks all for your contribution and voting!

      cheers Chuns
I have created another meetup on Saturday November 19th here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/733187
@Planet Royale Northbridge and all you can eat pizza!

    • if you are worried about the shirts not arriving on time - I've had pretty good delivery times with express post of late from over east to Perth - 3 or 4 days. Regular Parcel Post is a nightmare - one parcel took almost 4 weeks, yet others have arrived in a week and a half.

  • Hi all, alright - it's either going to be at Taro Taro or Pachi Pachi. I'm about to DM all the people who voted 'Yes' to get your view and any feedback.

The poll has been modified as well to include Taro Taro and Pachi Pachi. Feel free to vote on them and let me know.

    Thanks.

  • @alenin99 @Sean De Souza your DMs aren't enabled so can't message you. Let me know here which one you prefer, Thanks! =)

  • So far I have 17 adults and some kids attending, with majority voting looking to be Pachi Pachi.

    Votes look to be:

    Pachi - 7
    Taro - 4

  • Hi all, another quick reminder that if you are bringing a partner then please remember to create an ozb account for them. This is a requirement for budgeting purposes. Once you've created an account for your partner, let me know ASAP.

Scotty has put this in the FAQ, pasted below for your convenience:

Q: Can I bring my SO to the meetup? What about kids?

Depending on the venues, some might not be kids friendly. Moreover, some venues can only fit a fixed number of guests so bringing more people on the day that were not >previously registered to come might cause issues to the venue. As of bringing extra people to come to the meetup event:

    • You can bring an extra person, provided that he/she has an OzBargain account and has registered for the event (by voting Yes on the poll).

    • You can bring young kids who don't have an OzBargain account.

  • Hi all, I'm confirming that we are proceeding with going to Pachi Pachi as this is the majority vote. I've now finalised the numbers with the restaurant. We will officially kick things off at 12:00PM, however, I'll be there around 11:30AM to setup and blow up some balloons.

Pachi Pachi will be sending me their menus tonight, but I can confirm for lunch time both the lunch and dinner menu will be made available in addition to a separate vegan menu.

Please see the above message regarding ensuring you have an ozbargain account and to speed things up, can you please log into it when you arrive so I can check you in.

    Thanks all!

  • Can we just buy ozbargain t shirts or water bottles?

    Ultra keen for the merch

    • @scotty would be best to answer this. Thanks.

    • Sorry we don't sell t-shirts.

You can however grab some of the past designs & print them yourself. I have the rights to the designs drive by OzBargain. However some designs were rights reserved by the comp winners and we have to ask if someone else wants to do a re-print.

  • Hi all, you can find the menu for Pachi Pachi here: https://imgur.com/a/FDug67p.

  • Hi all, everything with the restaurant is finalised and I'm closing the attendance list now. I'm building a reserved list (currently at 2), so if you were still thinking of wanting to come, let me know and I'll add you to the list.

For others who have confirmed to come, if you are unable to make it - please let me know ASAP so I can reach out to the members on the reserved list.

    Thanks all!

    • Count me in. Cheers

      • +1

No worries. You're #3 on the list.

No guarantee I can fit you in - but I'll endeavour to reach out to reserved members where a confirmed member is unable to attend.

        Thanks all!

  • Iā€™m keen.

    • Thanks. I'll add you as #4 on the waitlist.

  • +1

Hi all, since mine and mmd's events are already finalised, I believe there's still time to register your interest in the Sunday 20th November event (formerly organised by mmd but now transferred to Michael15286). Please reach out to @Michael15286 if you wish to attend that event.

Hey all, I'll be organising the planet royal meetup for the Sunday. To be clear, if you are attending the Saturday meetup, you will not be able to attend the Sunday one as well. I will be messaging everyone who voted on the last post to confirm numbers and later today :)

  • Hi Chuns
Can you please include me to attend the Sun 13th Nov lunch at Pachi Pachi

    • +1

Hi Sean De Souza, sorry but unfortunately I've already finalised the booking for this event. I'll add you to the waitlist and will reach out if there's a slot. But you need to turn on your private messages and also respond back quicker (as I tried reaching out to you a number of times in this thread).

  • Update3

For those attending, I am unsure if the shirts will arrive on time…. I will keep you all posted. If it doesn't arrive on time, then I'll work out another way to get shirts to you.

    Thanks all.

  • Hi Chuns,

Myself Kim and Sean have been messaging you from the start about vic park. Could you please put me on the waitlist as a priority as we have been canvassing for a catch up at Vic Park. We researched places and gave our feedback unlike others who only gave their names to you directly. We are unaware of how to turn on our Dm's. I hope you understand we are very disappointed as we (kim and sean) were one of the first people to register our interest in dining at Vic Park and even voted in favor of it. Can you please consider adding us by negotiating with the restaurant for increased capacity?

    Thank you

    • +2

      Hi Kimmy,

I understand you're disappointed. Please keep in mind that I've been regularly updating this thread and also attempted to reach out to people via private message. Just to clarify, I reached out only to those who voted 'Yes' in the above poll. I noticed you didn't actually vote and therefore I didn't message you (however, your private messaging was disabled and you only just enabled it very recently). I'll add you to the wait list but can't guarantee that you'll get a spot this Sunday unless people pull out.

Keep in mind that I'm organising this during my own time…

If you really did want to attend a lunch, you can contact @Michael15286, however, it's possible he might have finalised his event too.

If all else fails, just know that there's always another Ozbargain birthday next year November. Remember to click the Vote button, enable private messaging, subscribe to the event post and stay up-to-date. That should reduce any chances of missing out.

For anyone who couldn't fit in on this meetup, definitely send me a message if you can do Sunday.

  • Hi Michael please add me to your list too as we seem to be missing out as old members of Oz bargain, this is very disappointing.

    • +2

Old members? You joined OzBargain a few weeks ago …

      • Old member who created a new account just for the meet-up/ free shirt. That's our MO.

  • Update4:

Unfortunate news but the shirts aren't arriving till after the event. I will reach out to attendees to work out the best way to get a shirt to you. If you are attending mmd's or Michael's event then you will get a shirt from that event. Thanks all, stay tuned in DMs for more info.
