140

Hi all! Been long time ozbargain member, first post for camera equipment.

The Pentax K5 is on sale from DWI for ONE DAY ONLY at $799 including free delivery.

THIS IS GRAY STOCK!

You normally find these around $900+ including delivery.

The Pentax K5 is better than the D7000 and Canon 60D and is more affordable.

I highly suggest pairing this body with the Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 lens $307 cheapest I've seen them yet http://www.dwidigitalcameras.com.au/store/product.asp?idProd…

DWI has incredibly fast shipping from HK, I bought a Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 lens and arrived within two days. However you should avoid buying phones from them because I've heard bad reviews. But for camera equipment they're amazing!

  • I would urge that anyone consider buying a camera body to carefully look at the lenses that go with it. My sense is that Canon or Nikon would have a larger range of lenses, though that doesn't mean it's better quality. It would also be wise to compare the prices of the lenses

Tamron and Sigma make lots of lenses for Pentax, some of which are good and most of which are cheap. The Pentax image stabilisation is in the body rather than the lens so unlike Nikon and Canon, you'll get image stabilisation with every lens you have. This includes Sigmas, Tamrons and the old Pentax manual focus lenses you can buy off Ebay for next to nothing.

I would like to add that since the image stabilization in Pentax cameras is incorporated into the body and not the lenses, you can buy old lenses used by non digital pentax cameras and use them in your pentax digital cameras. These lenses made by pentax (takumar), sigma and tamron are equal (or more) in quality to Nikon and Canon lenses and super cheap from ebay here or in the U.S. since the old SLR cameras are being replaced by their owners.

  • Jayteewoofed, thanks for the post. How do you know it is a one day price? Can't see it mentioned on the site.

    • Received this deal in my email. I'm subscribed to DWI. They normally one day sale Nikon lenses or flashes.

      • I bought one just before the shutter came down. Woo hoo! :-)

I'm on their mailing list but didn't get that, have to check that out. Thanks again.

If you have to have the trendy brand then get a Canon or Nikon but if you want the biggest feature set and best image quality available on an APS-C DSLR then this is the one to get.

Totally agree! I've been using it since Nov 2011. Paid $900 +postage back then. Very sharp images, even in low light conditions. VALUE FOR MONEY!

Thanks OP, Great price for a great camera - Pentax have been making camera's and lenses for many years and this is one of the last release before Ricoh aq.
When you compare apples to apples this machine beats all other brands at its class. To be noted is that this is not the top end of Pentax there is another expensive piece of machine the 645D - my dream machine :-)

  • Tried to get one for my friend, the deal is over and its gone back to $878+delivery! :-(

  • Need to revise the price that has been back to $878 already.

I got mine an Australian stock from Ted's for $922 body only. I like it very much in term of its built-in quality and a bit more compact than its competitors in Nikon or Canon. From ebay I got a new 18-55 WR lens for $160, a used Pentax M50 f1.7 for around $60, and a used DA40 f2.8 for $300. It's a good thing that the Pentax's K mount allows you to use most of the Pentax legacy lenses.

Apart from a full-frame DSLR, I can't find one in the market that is more worth of money than K-5.
