ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 Laptop, 14" 144Hz FHD+, R7-6800HS, 16GB DDR5, 1TB SSD, RX6700S, W11H $2599 + Delivery ($0 SYD C&C) @ Mwave

Good for someone that needs to game on the go or wants a portable but powerful system. Great battery life on it too, apparently. 6700S is around 10% slower than a 3070 at 100W, or the more powerful 6800S. Comes with an IR Camera for Windows Hello too, if you're into that.
It's just a shame that all the G14 models we get here come with the "AniMe Matrix" or whatever, it's unbelievably tacky and adds price on a product that would've otherwise been a much better value

EDIT: vFox has replied that you can get the same device for $2479 at Wireless1, with 2.1% cashback: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/12860150/redir

  • So exxy. :(

    • Honestly, even though it's discounted, I'm very inclined to agree. It's the stupid LED dot matrix they put on the back of the lid that makes it like $200 more expensive than it needs to be. I know it's cliche, but at that price I'd just screw portability and get a much more performant Lenovo Legion. But I guess some people need the smaller size.

      • yeh i'm on the opposite end. Screw the LED dot matrix, no value added. But I highly value a smaller form-factor. I actually ended up going a Flow X13 without a DGPU, but this was my #1 choice, and at this price would have been an instant buy.

    • Couldn’t find any in Australia.

Great little laptop. Bought one a month or so ago (at $2899 🤦) to replace my M1 MBP (16GB/512GB). Wanted something small-ish that has decent battery life, 1TB of storage, fast ram, semi-upgradeable (HDD, 1 Ram slot, battery replaceable), and can deal with reasonably large architectural and 3D models.

When I'm working away from a power source I'm getting an indicated ~7 hours of battery (charged to 80%).

    TL;DR - I really like it

    • I want to buy a light laptop for my wife for AutoCAD and Revit. Is that sufficient? If not, do you have any other suggestions? Thanks in advance.

      • Granted I'm not an architect, but I'm mostly using SketchUp for CAD stuff with a bit of Autocad every now and then, but it absolutely smashes through it. No stuttering that I can see unless I accidentally load all layers in a 30 apartment development.

        • Great. Thanks :)

          • @Michael M: Sorry just realised I didn't comment on weight… I'm happy with it but it is noticeably heavier than the MBP13. Size wise it's great though; just a bit dense.

            • @ebosh: Thanks @ebosh for your response. That's okay. We're happy with the size given there isn't a lot of other laptops that could be considered small/light with similar specs. I am was initially looking at Lenovo legion 5i and 5i pro but they are all 2.5kg. So after a bit of research I refined the list to the Asus G14 and Asus G15 and your comment encouraged me to lean more towards the G14.

But what about its thermals? Does it overheat or something?

              • @Michael M: I played an hour or so of one of the Forza games on the weekend and the fans were definitely getting a workout but it didn't seem to mind and kept chugging along. It got pretty warm but not uncomfortable

  • Are the rams upgrade-able on this?

One slot is, one is soldered.
