Great post. The two $53x posts make this a hard sell.

    tldr; HODL :)

Didn't even know the 6700 non-XT existed. Apparently a really solid 1440p card. Most closely matches PS5 GPU?

    • +1

yea, I never heard of the non XT variant being sold in AU.

      • -6

Im surprised this much people didn't know about it? Dont tell me u dont know of the non XT 6800 xD

        • -2

lol why am i getting down voted 😂

          • +2

@LuslecGrace: Probably because the RX 6800 non-XT came out the same day as the 6800 XT and was released worldwide, heavily marketed and reviewed etc.

The RX 6700 non-XT only came out a few months ago and wasn't for sale from most big Aussie retailers. There's not been much coverage either with only some smaller sites posting reviews.

            • +2

@Zenskas: Yeah im aware, when I said that i was only saying it as a joke hence the xD face.

              I appreciate ur explanation nonetheless!

      • Only became available through retail channels this month.

    • +1

Its not just you bud, I thought I knew a lot until I saw this title and wait, what? Did OP miss out the XT part ;)

    • +1

It's been available in Europe for a while, I had never seen it locally until recently. Pricing on offer over in the UK was only a little but over the 6600 XT, so it made a good buy for people with older generation PCI-E motherboards. Given how cheap the 6600 XT has been that's a harder sell here.

  • have not been looking at card makers for AMD GPUs.

sapphire is probably the "EVGA" of team red in AU?

    • They actually got 2 "EVGA's", Sapphire being the 2nd while Nitro+ is better by a little and has rgb

      • +2

I've not heard of Nitro, will look them up, thanks!

        edit:
the nitro+ is also part of sapphire, is it not?

        • +1

I believe its a bit more expensive and for the little difference people just opt for the sapphire pulse, however if they were similarly priced then nitro is the way to go. Ur welcome :)

          • +1

            @LuslecGrace: thanks for sharing.
i discovered which line i probably will go with, it'll probably be the toxic aio ones if it's available. If not then Nitro+ :)

        • +2

Ah yes i forget that always. they are both part of sapphire.

    • +1

Sapphire and XFX are both AMD-exclusive board partners and are both probably deserving of the "EVGA of AMD" title.

      • just to clarify, what do you mean amd-exclusive? do you mean sapphire and xfx business model is they only make cards with the AMD GPU chips and no nvidia gpus at all?

        • +3

That's what "exclusive" means, right? :) Same as how EVGA were an exclusive Nvidia board partner.

          • @xyron: well, i was thinking along the lines of "Sapphire and XFX" are the ONLY GPU card makers for AMD, and other players (like asus) can't make them. so just clarifying what you said. :)

            • -2

@slowmo: that interpretation makes no sense, but if you were trying to obtain some internet points today by pointing out what I said was wrong, sorry to disappoint you today :(

              • +2

@xyron: lol. nah. i am genuinely wanting to clarify. as mentioned earlier, i have not been following the amd gpu space for a while now. asking here for which vendor to pick is kind of my lazy way of googling and peer review :)

                thanks for the clarification.

edit: context : i originally am in the waitlist for evga 3090 kingpin and 3080 hybrids and was willing to get them forwarded from US. all the events up to the recent ones made me reconsider getting a nvidia card at all. that's why i'm looking at which ones the amd version of evga, and i'm just going with whatever the new top end rdna3 is coming with.

                • @slowmo: if its alright to ask, what gpu do u currently have? or if ur just getting into gaming/productivity

                  • +1

@LuslecGrace: i currently have a evga 1080 hybrid, so it would be a huge jump.

previously i was on 2 x R9 290s that are just heating my room way too much, so moved to the 1080 even though for a marginal increase in performance, the power draw is way lower.

this time round i intended to get for mostly productivity, as i am intending to upgrade from 3700x to 5950x at some point.

                    • +1

@slowmo: U chose some solid parts, hopefully it'll be enough for some intense productivity. I highly think it will be good enough

                      • +1

@LuslecGrace: thanks! i planned the build just 2 mths after the first AU covid lockdown, my earlier desktop died… but i had trouble sourcing a proper 5950x, so had to settle with a 3700x, on a ROG x570 and cooling AIO meant for the 5950 etc. lolol

i run a decent amount of VMs for a few things at the same time, so the grunt of a 5950 will help.
whatever fancy gpu coming next would hopefully help with the fancy math things. :P

  • Dodgy. A lot of people will get caught out on this deal believing it's the XT

    • Very careless if people don't read. I don't blame them for not knowing but not feeling something is weird without the XT in the name is very careless

      • +1

Yeah it's no different to the Ti naming.

        • +2

iphone 6s or iphone6 or iphone 13 pro max

idk. sounds very much like a diligence problem.

      • +2

Are you saying… people need to be eXTra careful?

        • +1

          I am now XD

          That cracked me up lol

  • I hope the AMD RX 7000 series forces a price drop on the new/used market for the 6000 series. Would love a used 6800xt for $499

    • +2

i'm just rooting for the prices to drop all around.

electricity bills going up by 50% fml.

      • Yeah. I'd previously been making money via solar each year. It is sad that I'm paying for electricity bills again :(

        • on the bright side, at least you had a head start… my roof is facing the wrong way to get optimal sun. so now i'm wondering if it made sense to get those tesla batteries and charge with an off peak supply to use during peak hours.

          • @slowmo: I got my 6kw system done for $2500. I wasn't certain if solar would be worth it, but now I wish i had of gone larger, perhaps even a battery (although sooooo expensive). I hope your battery set up pays itself off for you!

            • @scottySK: idk part of me thinks that it's sunk cost if i go that route, and would end up spending a lot more. since the batteries are expensive as you said… might as well use that money for the bills instead.

we'll see how it goes, 2023 is not looking too rosy financially.

2.5k is really cheap .. i was quoted like 10k for solar recently.

              • +2

@slowmo: My solar is due to be installed in a couple of weeks. ~9k for 6kw. 3.5k out of pocket up front, 1400 state loan, 1400 state rebate, $2600 federal rebate.

I wouldn't go with a battery unless you see yourself in your place for a minimum of 10 years.

              • +1

@slowmo: It was 2-3 years ago. Lots of Chinese panel/inverter systems under 3 grand were available. Probably harder to find cheap deals now

  • +1

    HODL, GPU crash coming.

  • This or 3060? Seems to be the same performance, but Nvidia is generally preferable over AMD cards due to extra features and familiar drivers? And not I'm not coming from a fanboy POV.

    • This, I reckon. If it was a 3060 Ti for this price I'd go that though.
