    Given that the iPhone has a scratch-resistant glass screen (unlike older phones), this has little use.
    Are you going to buy a stack and change them every time it gets a small scratch? (far more often than the glass would).
    Or is this solely to preserve resale value?

    Seems a bit like putting those clear plastic covers on the lounge suite that I've seen in Italian homes.

      You'd find if you dropped it face down from a reasonable height it would protect the glass from chipping, obviously not too high or it will just shatter.

        I'd be surprised if a plastic film will stop it chipping or cracking. Has anyone tested this hypothesis properly?

          My girlfriend dropped her Desire HD and the plastic cover was chipped in 5 or 6 places, but not a mark on the screen.

      Yeah Gorilla glass is mighty hardy but have you seen the way some people treat their phones? In their case it's worth have a bit of extra protection. (And not just so they won't breed)
