Update at 1.41pm: We sent this deal to our members as well, and the sales are going very well. Better than expected actually.

Maybe the reason is that our members have tried the wine before by getting it in these mixed packs:

The RRP at $200 a bottle? How many bottles have you had before coming up with that number?

    • +3

The RRP is from the winery, what we guarantee is that at $30/bottle, it is a bargain.
To back our our statement: If not Happy with the wine, Free Returns.
We will organize Australia Post to pick up the wine from your residence (free of charge) and we will issue a refund on the remaining bottles.

        organize

        organise ;)

        • I gave you a +1. Why can't we spell words the English way?

hrmmm $200 RRP for $30? Has it ever sold at that and is it any good?

If you refund the RRP, you got a deal.

    Any deals on goon bags?

If you're happy to have it in a bottle and pay $30 for that bottle, I have a deal for you

Absolute nonsense. Honestly in a world where you can buy awards this "$200 wine" has none?
    Sick of these nonsense RRPs.

  • Just noticed it doesn't even state (or at least not easy to locate) where the grapes are from!?

    • +2

      Usually from a vine.
Or, so i heard… through the grapevine.

    • Seems to be Adelaide Plains if we assume it's where the winery is…

    • The wine/grapes are from Adelaide Plains, where the winery is located.

At $5 a bottle I might take a chance but $30 is a silly amount to spend on a wine that doesn't appear to have any market presence.

This makes the RRP entirely misleading in my opinion. For $30 I can buy very good wine from a premium vineyard in a preferred (Shiraz) region.

        • I Understand,
But we are still convinced that at $30 this is a bargain.
We really like this wine, hence the confidence on free returns.
Someone just called and asked of I have tried this wine and the answer is: Lots of times.

  • +1

Look, it wasn't popular as a competition

  • Hi Everyone,
Since you guys aren't happy with the RRP, we removed it.
    Cheers.

This appears to be a small winery, setting idiotic RRP. You appear to be the only cellar I can find that sells this. So, how on earth is this a deal… when the RRP is idiotic, how can I judge if this is a deal?

If the only place you can buy a product is discounting an inflated RRP, I won't apologise for the reaction you get.

      • +2

I understand where you come from.
But let's forget about the RRP and focus on the wine and Skye Cellars.
We have been around for over 40 years, selecting great wines and offering them to our customers.
If we did a bad job at it, we would be out of business.
We are offering free returns, and if there are a lot of returns, we lose money as a business. We are nor here to lose money.
We are here to make money as well as having happy customers.
That's why we always make sure that the quality of the wine is better than the price we sell it for.
Our aim is that when someone tries this wine (or other wines we sell) their reaction to be: Hell yeah, I did get a bargain.
Otherwise, where is the point of us being in the wine industry?

I have had this wine multiple times and still have some in the rack, it's a super good drop. Don't get caught up in the RRP, it's definitely worth it's price tag imho.

    • Any tasting notes? Full bodied and big or more restrained and expressive, upfront fruit or savoury etc

      • The tasting notes are in the post, with all the wine-wankery fortunately absent.

  • So much anger and narkiness here today. Chill people and have some wine.

$30 for a 2015 Shiraz that sounds like it's nice is a good price.

    • It's not really. Take another big grape variety the Duriff. You can get a 2016 DeBortili's Duriff from Dans (or at least at my Dan's)for $11.95 a bottle and cheaper again in a 6 bottle purchase.

This deal comes across as a seller just trying to pass off an idiotic RRP which they claim the winery sets and they are doing us here at OzBargain a real favour at letting it go for $30.

They offer the olive branch of sending it back if you don't like it. A good wine should need no such disclaimer.

As others have noted; No tasting notes whatsoever.

      Caveat emptor.

So did you oversell the previous St Hugo deal or was there a legitimate truck accident which ended up destroying my order?

  • wondering how long it took people to get their orders? i ordered 12 bottles last week and yet to receive any tracking info…
