didnt think model had wifi. only the T8520 did?

    • +1

Correct. The only way this one connects to wifi is via a bridge. Misdescription.

      • So if i have homebase2 will i get access to it out of home etc (not bluetooth)

        • No. You need a bridge which is hard to find in oz.

  • -6

I wonder if this is as secure as their cameras? Just hold down a button to reset it and let you in? :)

    • -4

Even the google nest and amazon ring work the same way. There's a button to hold down to reset the camera.

      • so the button on the camera resets the camera and removes all footage from that camera that is stored on the home base for nest and ring too?
And that doesnt come across as problematic to you?

  • Hmm.
    No wifi

  • +1

Anyone know where I can get the bridge at a reasonable price? Only ones I can find is nearly the cost of the device itself

  • Looking to upgrade from a Lockwood t lock. Is this as reliable? Reviews seem mixed. How reliable is the finger print reader?

    • +1

Had the t lock. Much prefer eufy as you just tap your finger and it unlocks.

    • +1

I have both the T-Lock and Eufy Wifi, and have tried a Samsung in the past.

The fingerprint reader on the Eufy is very good, much more responsive than the Samsung (the Samsung only takes 3 readings to record where the Eufy takes at least 8 from memory). We were constantly retrying with the Samsung but the Eufy is usually first go.

The battery life on the T-Lock can't be beat though.
Year and a half in and I'm still on my first set of batteries with 55% left.

The Samsung (also 4xAA) lasted exactly 6 months as per the specs, the Eufy li-ion despite claims of 12 month battery life lasted 3 after first charge, though it's been going another 4 so far since recharging and still reporting about 50% so hopefully is improving.

The door position sensor on my Eufy doesn't seem to work properly but think I'm in the minority as most others say theirs works fine.

We don't usually type in a PIN on the T-Lock as it's an internal garage door and is triggered to unlock automatically when we get home based on other things in Home Assistant, but on the odd occasion it doesn't work and we have to do it manually, can appreciate the speed and convenience of the fingerprint reader on the Eufy.

  • +2

Had mine for a year and its very reliable. Fingerprint takes like 1 second to register

    • Do you use it with homebase?

  • Easy to install? Or anyone can help install?

    • easy to swap from existing deadlock with a screwdriver

  • -7

I wouldn't be getting any smart lock unless it has a key backup, or you have another way to get in (another door), in case the batteries go flat.

    • +2

I think this does have a key

      • -7

I see it does say ‘unlock with a key’ in the description, but I don’t see a keyhole. They do say you can connect a power bank if it’s flat (if you have one on you).

Another issue is it’s not a proper deadlock - it can be opened from the inside. If burglars get in another way they can just open the door and easily get anything out. A proper deadlock can’t be opened from either side (without key, pin etc).

        • +10

This one does have a key, and a keyhole. And you can unlock it with a battery backup.

And tbh I'd prefer something like this over a 'proper' deadlock any day. If a crook is inside your house then your security has already failed, at that point what does it matter if they can unlock your front door from the inside? But if there's a fire or some other emergency you don't want to be fumbling with a key to try and get out.

          • -2

@Timm: For those that want to see the keyhole - it's under the bottom disc. Picture here:

            https://myeufy.com.au/smart-lock-touch-wifi.html

You don't deadlock when you're home! Only when you go away.

It matters because you may not be able to take larger things out a window. Or as many things, just because it's a bit harder. Depends on your window size of course. So you may lose less and may pay lower insurance premiums.

It's also not wifi (as someone else pointed out) and it's a bolt, not a latch, so you have to have other hardware on the door (no big deal).

            • @wfdTamar: Most valuable stuffs are small. They are even more expensive than larger stuffs
Diamonds, laptop, rings, necklace, wallet, phone, game consoles or even a tiny piece of bikini/lingerie can cost a few hundred to thousand…. And you are worried about your TV…
If i’m a robber, i will focus on small valuable items. They are easy to carry and sneak out.

              • @0PriceJack0: How do we know, you are not?

                • +1

@newbargainer: When I go out I always check who is wearing sneakers…

Obviously for sneaking and other nefarious purposes.

              • @0PriceJack0: The most common thing to steal from homes now is car keys. Break in, grab the keys, drive the car away.

              • -1

@0PriceJack0: Maybe in your house, not all. Hey, if you're fine with higher premiums go for it. Me, I'd find one that functions as a proper dead latch.

BTW negging just because you don't agree with a comment is a bit naff. If a comment is wrong or ridiculous, fine, but none of mine have been.

  • Hi all, this price on this is appealing but I just want a smart lock with keypad, fingerprint and backup key (which is what my old Samsung did). Can I use this as a "dumb" smart lock or can anyone recommend a better option?

    • +2

Recommend this. I got one a month ago and haven't looked back.

      • Had it for 12 months, its amazing

    • Is this easy to install?

      • If replacing an existing deadbolt very easy.

    • Yes, once set up it will work independently of any phone apps.

  • was going to take the plunge, but given I'm looking for a security mesh door, figured its pointless putting this on the wooden door when the mesh door is locked……….

which leads me to - are these installable on a mesh door or am I better off getting a package for the security door with the smartlock?

    • wont work with mesh door

      • yeah - Im tipping the mesh ones are super narrow :( any experience or recommendations? Probably one for another thread

  • As much as i want keyless entry to the house, you Still have to get the keys out for the security screen door… or will need to have a ssd variant as well

    • +1

I dont have any smart locks atm, and was going to get this for the front door as an impulse buy. but im currently looking for a security door (with the warmer weather coming) I figured I could get an additional 3 or 4 months a year without having to use the air con.

so yeah - trying to avoid having smart locks on both :)

  • -1

    Lever handle door? Yuck

    • Are you more of a knob handler?

      • -3

I’m not poor so I’ve got a half decent front door

  • Can this be hacked with an RFID switcher? What other smart locks can't be hacked?

    • Don't think so - the methods to open are Physical Key, Fingerprint, pincode or BT via app. No RFID/NFC functionality.

  • So is this WIFI or not?

I already have homebase2, Can this be paired to that for out of home access???

  • +1
  • I installed this lock about two months ago and I find it brilliant. I installed it myself and even though I am not a carpenter I got the job done. I have a Google smart house but am happy with this not having wifi for me. I can open it with a fingerprint, a four digit code, bluetooth on the app and a laser-cut key. My door has a knob, no worries.

  • Why does it say for "lever handle doors only" ?

We already have a digital deadlock (from Masters), which this could replace, but the main door handle is a round handle - not a lever.

  • Is access codes setting of more than 4 digits possible? as i suspect burglars may potentially 'guess' the access code by looking at the touch marks on the number pad.

  • +1

Wi-Fi version $285.95, cheapest according to camel
