50% Off Canadian Export Label McLaren Vale Shiraz 2021: $108/12 Bottles Delivered (RRP $216, $9/Bottle) @ Wine Shed Sale

800
WILLYWONKA

A new 92pt McLaren Vale Shiraz offer from Halliday 5 star brand and small, family vigneron, Bec Hardy.

Wine writer Ken Gargett says: "If 2019 was somewhat underrated, 2021 has been hyped to the heavens. The test is whether or not the wines live up to that adulation. This one? Absolutely. Young and fresh, for sure, but that is not a crime. A fine South Aussie red from a superb vintage, this delivers all you’d hope and represents excellent value while doing so. Quite powerful and with an impression of coiled persuasion, we have notes of mulberries, spices, cassis, plums, dry vegetation (a hint of tree bark) and enough chocolate to make Willy Wonka happy. Slightly broad on the palate, there is a gentle fade with a clean finish and satiny tannins. Will drink well for five to six years, longer if you wish. Great buying. 92points"

Vintage: Great winter rainfall during 2020 ensured the vines were off to a fantastic start for the 2021 vintage. The weather during flowering was mild and not too windy, which lead to great fruit set. There was a major rain event in February, but the dry weather following this ensured disease didn’t become a problem. The weather stayed mild and dry throughout harvest, the yields were higher than the past few years and the quality was fantastic.

Vineyards: Fruit is sourced from three of our grower vinyards. The Klavenik Vineyard, The Conte Vineyard and Lower Tintara Vineyard all in McLaren Vale.

Story: The quintessential Australian red, this Pertaringa Shiraz offers everything that has made this variety famous down under.

Nose: The nose displays notes of plums, pepper and a hint of dark cherries.

Palate: The palate is elegant with great flavours of plums, cherries and black pepper, finishing delightfully smooth and lingering.

Food Pairings: A beautifully versatile food wine, this wine will go just as well with a summer barbeque as it would with a hearty beef stew in winter.

Cellaring: Drink now to 2029.

Screwcap. Vegan.

  • Seems to imply its part of the famous Hardy wine family

    Is this correct?

    • No - her father split from Hardy 1980ish I think and are independent.

Bought and earlier offering, and it was very good (brilliant for the $)

      • +1

Hi @jaclarkaus - Yes, Geoff left Hardy's (still then family owned) in 1980. He didn't want to continue in a small way in what was by then the world's largest wine company. His father, Thomas Hardy, graciously allowed him to use the name Hardy a precedent still graciously observed by Accolade today. Hope that helps. Cheers! RD :-)

    • +1

Bec is a 6th generation member of and the first female vigneron from one of Australia's oldest wine families, the Hardys.

      • +4

That's the one - she also had the distinct pleasure of being married to me ;-))
Right, off back to the gardening - will check back later :-)
        Cheers! RD :-)

      Hi @sian72

Part of the Hardy family yes. Bec is a sixth generation descendant of the original Thomas Hardy who started Hardy's back in 1853 and who is Bec's great-greatgreat grandfather. Daughter of one of Australia's leading viticulturists, Geoff Hardy. Great-niece of Sir James Hardy OBE (noted sailor), grand-daughter of one of South Australia's leading environmentalists, Dr Barbara Hardy AO and great- granddaughter of Eileen Hardy OBE.

Part of the Hardy wine company, now owned by the Carlyle Group in Washington DC, no. No corporate relationship exists and only one member of the family works for the old family business (a beverage lawyer in the Accolade offices in Adelaide CBD).

As for the “famous” part, whilst the family is and the brand, of course, you’d not find one of the family ever describe it that way. They are the most incredibly understated family you could hope to meet. They have great wine cellars too ;-)

      Cheers! RD :-)

  • At this price, gave at it a try. Thanks OP

    • Thanks @Tarapara. Am confident you won’t be disappointed. Cheers! RD :-)

Dad loves the lakeside. Always really good wine from Bec Hardy and immensely good value (I am really not associated with them, but this is decent stuff and you really won’t be disappointed)

    • Thanks @j05h for taking the time to post. Enjoy your Sunday! RD :-)

  • Gonna give it a try, ordered.

    • Happy drinking @OneEyePanda. Cheers! RD :-)

Picked up a box. Need something to cheer me up after that rough Just Wines shiraz deal…

    • Ooohh @thatonethere. Was it that bad? :-)

      • +1

Just wines called me 2 days ago and their sales guy tried every trick in the book to sell.
        - Free shipping, despite already having free shipping via eBay plus.
        - complaining about eBay charging them 20%
        - Sob story around meeting targets.
        - Being on leave on 31/10 and requiring my assistance.
        - Dropping price 3 times.
        And I didn’t buy.

        • +1

So many red flags, good on yea!

        • As soon as I see just wines come up on my mobile i put them on block.

Got my Bec Hardy box today - not disappointed.

          • @thatonethere: glad to hear. We aim to please. Thanks again. Have a great weekend. Cheers! RD :-)

Hoping this cellars well and looking forward to trying. Just ordered a box. Thanks for the post

    • A pleasure @Stingysteve. You’ll get a few years out of it and drinking we’ll now! Thanks for the order. RD :-)

I'm sorry but I have to make this post.
I have been hassled by this company endless times from marketing. These guys are worse than Optus and other telco providers.
The amount of spam emails, unknown id callers that continue to hassle me to sell the product is beyond ridiculous.
This is not how you run a company. And I am surprised that people continue to buy their product.
Maybe I am just an outlier, who knows.

    • +7

Hi @GainsGoblin. Thanks for the post and sorry you feel that way.
Happy to remove you from any list you wish to be removed from. Please PM me your email adress (or you can email me at [email protected] or even call me personally on 0433 166 181) and I'll attend to it today.
The phone experience is not one I identify with. We have done one phone campaign in the last four months and, indeed, have cased phone campaigns going forward as their effectiveness over the years has waned.
Like any responsible business, we take our obligations uner the Privacy Act seriously.
I look forward to receiving your PM.
Thanks for the post Richard :-)

      • Oops, that’s a few complaints about unsubscribe and marketing phone calls. May be I am lucky?? But I have to agree with what Richard states. Btw, I am not associated with this company and have bought many times from them. He is right in what he is stating. I received only one phone call in the last few months or perhaps the whole of 2022 for that matter. I am a beer guy and wasn’t a wine person at all. But, I can say that (imo) these guys make good wines for the best best price! I think it may be just a chance where employees would have called by mistake?? But who knows what would have happened? Anyway, just thought of posting this as I have had some pretty good deals and had a genuinely decent marketing experience. That’s my 2 cents review lol

        • Thanks @Ohreally for taking the time to write and sharing your experience.
Most, though not all, wine companies outsource their phone campaigns to external service providers. Hence we directly know how many times per year people are contacted. Our own internal team don’t make outbound sales calls. So calls would be two at most per year. Cheers! Richard

    • I can second this. Their unsubscribe function does not appear to work!

      • +2

        @WeatySmalls thanks for the post.
We use Klaviyo for emails and maintain global unsubscribe protocols across the database.
Having a fully functioning unsubscribe ability is a requirement of the Privacy Act.
As with my offer to the post above, I'm more than happy for you to PM me, email me, phone me and I'll personally attend to an unsubscribe or to check you are in a suppressed list.
Failing, that, I'd strongly recommend you report the business to the https://www.oaic.gov.au/
Please feel welcome to call me on 0433 166 181 if you'd like to discuss further.
        Cheers!
        Richard

        • I second WeatySmalls report, the unsubscribe function did not work for me either. Despite multiple efforts. Neither did replying to the emails asking to be removed. I ended up having to phone them.

          • @synaptec: Thanks @synaptec. I'm interested in your experience.

The hello@ sales@ email boxes are monitored by multiple people. Our aim is to be Australia's most accessible and responsive wine brand. Most people who interact with our business know I reply personally for the most to the majority of messages as I do on here within minutes. It is perplexing to me that you would not receive a response to an email.

Can you please PM me your email address to ensure you're on the Suppressed List? Or you can perhaps call me on 0433 166 181 to let me know what transpired.

            Cheers! RD :-)

            • @RD ADL: @synaptec Thanks Andrew for reaching out by PM. I look forward to hearing fro you. Cheers! RD :-)

              • @RD ADL: I just ordered one.
I didn't realize that there was so much spam from you. Thought I had unsubscribed using Google, but obviously, it was another wine seller.
Can you please not send me marketing emails too? I have chosen not the check the box to receive any marketing emails.
                Thanks!

                • @darkmattersunB6c0MV: Hi @darkmattersunB6c0MV
There isn't. Happy for you to PM me, call me on 0433 166 181, email me at [email protected] and I'm happy to make sure you're on the suppresssion list.
Again, in full transparency, of the now four board posts above, only one person has emailed me directly this afternoon.

                  Cheers! RD :-)

    • Hey, just thought I'd add a counter-experience. I was on the phone call list for a time and asked to be removed, which I was.

I would have preferred not to have been added to the phone call list in the first place but it was easy enough to leave. And the phone reps were all polite and professional.

      • +1

Thanks @phenomenomenom. We take our obligations under the Privacy Act seriously. Only two emails received from the above exchange.
The last phone campaign was likely the last. They've been declining in effectiveness/popularity over the last few years. We ran that one to test some new technology as much as anything else.
        All the best. Richard :-)

  • I order from Bec Hardy all the time. Excellent wine (imo undervalued - but don’t tell Richard that) and great service. Never had any complaints, and I like to complain.

    • +3

@Jigram - thanks for that. Much appreciated.

In full transparency, there has been one other complaint similar to the above on a recent post I made and despite making myself immediately available neither person has contacted me to follow through on the board posts. (In fairness, the one above was made around 30 mins ago so may not yet have had the chance to action on the complaint).

Nor do I think it is part of the collective experience of OzBargain users since I started posting deals on here over five years ago.

Enjoy your Sunday. Cheers! RD :-)

  • I need whites and roses for a party coming up, any white deals planned?

    • Hi @Keplaffintech.
The deals we do have for whites are listed at www.wineshedsale.com.au
We don't have a lot of spare whites at the moment. The Export Label Sauvignon Blanc 2022 might leave that page shortly too as it has been selected for the final shortlist for a major US airline Business Class service. All a bit light on whites and rose at the mo! Sorry!
      RD :-)

  • Ordered! Love a good Shiraz

    • Thanks @Melong - let's hope it lives up to your expectations!
      Cheers! RD :-)

  • Thanks! Just ordered 3 cartons to try out!

    • Great job @Sleepycat3. Sounds like a party is in the works? Cheers RD :-)

  • Thanks. Got one. cheers mate.

    • Thank you @kabilya! Enjoy. RD :-)

  • Hi Richard, how does this wine compare to the Bec Hardy South Australia Shiraz 2021? Thanks.

    • @slackarse similar for sure but marginally different blend. Different labels for different channels in the same market. Hope that helps. Cheers! RIchard :-)

      • Thanks, I've found the Bec Hardy 2021 quite enjoyable and am considering ordering another dozen of those, but have just ordered this one to try. In fact I'll probably end up getting the Bec Hardy also I suspect.

        • @slackarse haha - love your work. Both good drops and great price/quality ratio. Enjoy! Cheers! RD :-)

  • Thanks Richard, grabbed a case

    • Thanks @yahms - Drink well today :-)

  • I’m intrigued by the Canadian Export Label part - were these destined for Canuck buyers but missed the boat or something?

    • @Chazzozz merely wines made for the Candian market to supply existing distribution channels mainly into Ontario for this label. We always produce a few extra cases for samples to open up other markets and to supply wines for the www.wineshedsale.com.au Cheers! RD :-)

      • Thanks for explaining. Looks like OzBargain is lucky you follow this practice!

        • Thanks. Yes, it's model we started twelve years ago. Started as a bit of fun, now daren't stop it. Essentially, export label wines at wholesale prices but trade off is you can only by in six packs (aside from occasional mixed packs we post here :-) )
          Cheers! RD :-)

  • Thanks Richard

  • no more corks? are they all screw cap nowadays?

    • @GrunkStrap Yes, for the time being all under screwcap. Closure is very market oriented and most of the markets at the pmoment are taking screwcap. Cheers! RD :-)

    • +1

      @sian72 That's the Cabernet Sauvignon 2019. This is the Shiraz 2021 :-)

  • Going to try.. Just in time for the festive season :)

  • Hesitant…
My last order was delivered to WA 23 days later. Missed the intended reason for the order, a function 15 days away from order date. Just noting that other orders from SA within the same period(different suppliers), arrived within 6 to 10 days.

While communication with this office was smooth, I still had to make other arrangements for the function.

    • Hi @hussle. Do you have a preferred carrier? Please feel very welcome to state your preference between Australia Post, Couriers Please. At this stage we're not using Aramax to WA due to recent service issues. Cheers! RD :-)

  • Thanks I just bought a case. Here's to hoping they taste great and I get no marketing emails or calls.

    • Hi Oliver - provided you didn't subscribe, you wont get any! And re the above exchanges. Out of the three notes above to date, only one has followed up by email. Cheers! RD :-)

  • Thanks OP, ordered.

      • Works via mobile as it adds an additional code FREESHIP2022. Will order, thanks

    • +1

Wednesday lunch - that's awesome, loveit! Thanks for the support and the post. Enjoy the vino. Richard :-)

  • I wish I could buy this, but everytime I buy a wine from these sort of businesses, I get near non-stop spam calls that take a LOT of effort to get removed from their lists. The calls are very persistent too.

    • +3

Hi Puti. My name is RIchard, I am one of the owners at Bec Hardy WInes, along with Bec. The situation you describe is not our business. You can subscribe or not at checkout. We don't make spam calls. Hit the unsubscribe button and you're off the list (if you subscribe in the first place). Simples.
As you can see, I'm also responsive on here if you have a problem.
      Back to you.
      CHeers!
      Richard :-)

  • Received my dozen. Love it!. Ordered another 2 dozens.

    • Big rap! Thanks @pork chop. Drink well this weekend. Sauv Blanc deal coming tomorrow! Cheers! RD :-)

  • Just ordered a Shiraz too, Cheers once again!

  • Lovely job. Thanks pal. RD :-)

  • Love the dozen we bought, just bought another dozen.

    • +1

      Wonderful - thank you :-)

  • I remember the days that Lakeside Pinot was on special

EVERYTHING IS AMAZING THAT YOU PRODUCE!

I've had a fair few orders - now staff and clients purchase from you guys and rave about it to me. I really should be a sales rep.

Plz PM me one day that you do ever put on a Lakeside Pinot offer ;)

best wishes to you and your lovely partner!

    • Nice words @FlatulentFrank, thanks. Thank you also for the recommendations and word of mouth, it’s greatly appreciated.

The Pinot Noir has taken off a little now. You can still buy online but it won’t see broad scale offers I’m afraid as supply of the fruit is also tight.

      Best regards. Richard :-)
