      • D'oh, short by 47 points.

        • If only you could transfer them

  • Grow them in the garden?

  • good deal but i had many problems with my p7p, now either thinking about p7 or going with oppo find x5 pro

  • Seems weird getting a free phone. Like what are you gonna do with the second one, they make you buy a second plan for it aswell lol

    • Give it to a family member for example.
No, they don't 'make you' buy anything.

  • +1

Well Optus went full r* on my deal. Wanted basic P7 128gb, no stock. So said I'll go to 256gb as it was only another $4/mth. Got 25% off plan port in bonus anyway and due to a packaging error I ended up with a P7Pro which they realised too late and now have to credit my account another $320 to cover the repayment difference in P7 and P7P…the shrink wrap bundle was labelled P7 256gb obsidian Black bundle instead of P7P… Winning

    • How did you get the 25% port in bonus?

      • No idea. I had existing mobile broadband with them, ported from Telstra to Optus. The girl said if I brought my wife across also she would get the same until end of Nov

    • Did you sign up online and got the 25% off plan port offer?
Did the offer come up before you submitted the order?

      • No in-store

  • Went thru a chat session with Optus to establish details around the offer and the guy on the other end tried to get me to sign up to 2 x SIM plans, one for the Pixel 7 & the other for the Pixel 6a - that was the conditions of the offer he claimed. I called BS and he changed his tune when I asked him to point that out in the T & C's.

Optus have such an honest bunch of telesales people who work for them.

I always go for 'incompetence theory' before going to 'conspiracy theory'.
Sales people generally don't have a clue - they just want to meet their targets.

    • anything for that sweet ass commission bruh

  • Just spoke to Optus sales, they're saying it's in the T&Cs that if you cancel early you'll have to pay back the full cost of the Pixel 6a. Can anyone confirm?

They sent me this from the T&Cs:

    Block-quote
Any related device payment plan will be cancelled and you’ll have to pay out any remaining payments owing as a one off payment with any device credits or discounts forfeited

    • Considering there is no payment plan for the 6a (as its only a Bonus offer when you are eligible for a Phone Plane and a Sim plan) not sure how they can enforce such a demand when their T&Cs state the payout is only for the P7/Pro and related plans

      • +1

        Agreed.
        Also from T&Cs:

If your plan is cancelled… Any related device payment plan will be cancelled and you’ll have to pay out any remaining payments owing as a one off payment with any device credits or discounts forfeited.

        And:

If you need to cancel your Device Payment Plan before the end of the agreed term, or you need to cancel your related eligible Optus plan during the Device Payment Plan term or you want to move to an ineligible plan during the Device Payment Plan term, then you’ll need to pay out the full remaining cost of your device. Device credits or discounts that Optus was going to cover do not apply in these cases. Limit of one related device payment plan per Data plan.

It says nothing about bonus (or any other) devices.

    • +1

They have since confirmed that this is not the case. The 6A is just a bonus item, it has no cost and does not need to be repaid.

Call and ask or go into a store - when I spoke to then this morning they had just had a meeting and confirmed to their staff that the 6A is free and included even if you cancel.

  • Word of warning about this deal.

Do not order this deal via the online store even though the eligibility and T & Cs say you are eligible for choosing a phone plan and a "eligible Optus SIM plan made 01/11/22 – 11/12/22"

Once processed, the order number you receive does not show the special bonus 6a offer. I called up Optus to check and after an hour on a call with 2 different operations. Optus rep and their supervisor confirmed the bonus offer is only processed if you call up Optus sales and it doesn't work via the online Optus store.

They will then have to create a new order for you and to process the special bonus 6a offer. (also means questions about identity will have to be provided again)

    • +3

Or, they just did that to you so they could claim the sale?

    • +1

What? Whoever set up this page on their web site must be the same person who set up their API's.

    • +2

Put an online order through, saw your post, called them after being stuffed around via online chat for about an hour (the operator had MFA issues so couldn’t help me check lol) and was finally told that even though the confirmation emails did not show anything about the pixel 6a bonus, that there was nothing else needed to be done other than wait for them to organise both phones to be shipped out. They quoted 4-5 business days and all will be sorted. wait and see.

    • +1

Wish I'd seen this comment. Ordered online and only received the pixel 7. Call centre rep was no help.. sorry can't do anything for you. Escalated to supervisor, she agrees to cancel the port in, cancel the order and reorder it manually. 2 hours later lose service on the old provider but the SIM isn't provisioned on Optus… What a shit show!

    • +1

There seems to be a lot of inconsistency with the advice the contact centre has provided people. Some people didn't follow up and was told the 6a would be sent out others got the 6a for their online order straight up without needing to following and some now are not getting the 6a at all is ridiculous how they are running this promotion

Everyone's experience is different and as with my experience with any deals if its not explicit in emails or some sort of visual confirmation that i will get the deal, I will always follow up. I am glad that I did take the 1.5 hours to get it sorted correctly as I made the order on Friday and just received the Pixel 7 and 6a in the mail.

It seems from this thread that the best success is in-store or via phone for the initial order

Now for me to cancel it all and hope there's not another shit show in advice given

      • +1

Please report back how did you go with the cancellation. I am still waiting for mine to be delivered but reading through all the comments here is worrying me if I have to pay anything more than $1050 which is what I assume is the total termination charge.

        • @SmOOvDoGG Have you done the cancellation? Please advise how you were charged.

          • @dealsgrabber: @dealexpert - Sorry I forgot to do it on the 9th and just did it today via Online Chat (Optus Website) it was relatively easy and they quoted the remaining I need to pay

As your service still has outstanding payments of $915.42, you'll receive a payment request to your email. You don't need to do anything, this will be included in your monthly payment.

So will see when i get a bill next month and if I have to chase them up for anything

  • +2

I ordered this on Wednesday and I got a delivery today (Friday) that just had the pixel 7 + sim card. Via live chat, I confirmed that the 6a is still on its way, it's just delayed due to stock level issues and is expected to be delivered in the next week or two.

This is from ordering via the website, so despite the above comment you don't need to order via a sales associate

    • +1

Thanks for sharing that. Good to know!

    • +1

      good luck waiting

  • Just went in store and did this. Cancelling the next day and selling the 6A on Marketplace effectively means you're buying a new Pixel 7 for around $450.

    Amazing deal.

    • How did you go cancelling, any mention of paying out the 6A?

      • Yeah they confirmed you don't need to pay it back. The final bill is just $1050 (Pixel 7 for $1k and $49 single month of plan).

Effectively the 6A doesn't even show up on the receipt.

        • Have you received your final bill from Optus?

    • If you cancel the following day however, can you still ensure the 6A will actually be shipped or did you obtain both phones on the spot?

      • I'd wait until you receive. We did both (long story)

        • Do we get some kind of receipt/invoice for the 6a in case we want to sell it on marketplace and the buyer wants a copy of the receipt?

  • Has anyone purchased and cancelled, and able to confirm they weren't required to payout on the 6A?

    • +1

I asked this question online agent and they confirmed. Took the screenshot of the chat.

  • +2

When we cancel after the first month, will we have to pay Optus back the price of PIXEL 6A as well? If this is the case they will have to mention explicitly the pay back price of 6A. Otherwise it's $0 dollar. Correct?

Edit: I got my answer from the online agent. Don't need to pay anything for 6a. Got the screenshot of the chat if I need to use it later.

  • I contacted Optus via chat in their app.
My current plan of Optus Promo Choice Plan isn't included in this offer.
They wanted me to go from $47.70 (discounted from $53) with 120 GB a month to $49 with 30 GB a month.
She couldn't understand why that was a bad deal!

I asked multiple times for FULL terms and conditions. Apparently this is it.

Offer available with the purchase of a Google Pixel 7/ Pixel 7 Pro on a 12/24/36 month device payment plan with an eligible Optus SIM plan made 01/11/22 – 11/12/22 (unless withdrawn earlier) in an eligible Optus channel. Customers will be eligible to receive one Google Pixel 6a ‘Charcoal’ 128GB per eligible device. New & existing Consumer and Business customers. N/A with other offers unless specified.

    Going to try instore.

    • Would it work to take on the $49/30GB offer on a new service, cancel it the next day and get the Pixels anyway?

      • It could be. I have a buyer for the Pixel 6a lined up.
I didn't trust what the chat person was telling me. She wasn't reading my questions and was responding with generic replies.

  • Looking forward to Pixel 6a's flooding eBay, brings the prices down faster. Saem thing happened when Vodafone made Pixel 4 half price a few years back.

  • Just received the pixel 7 today without the pixel 6a. The delivery note line item for the pixel 7 says “Google P7 128GB Lemongrass 6a Charc Bdl”
So at least there is some reference to the Pixel 6a.

    • Did you order it from online store?

      • Yes this was via the online store

    • +1

When I got mine, both the Pixel 7 box & 6a box were shrink wrapped together

  • Lotsa of Pixel 6a popup in gumtree and FB marketplace. I think it's worth it since my Id worth nothing.

  • My p7p and 6a arrived shrink-wrapped together as one. Which means I can't sell them separately as "unopened".

    • @maiuspala you mean they aren't in seal packed boxes? Is it just the 6a that is not in a sealed box?

      • Both phones have been sealed in the same plastic.
But now I had another look. At least both boxes have stickers, which you have to break to open the boxes, so all good. Can still sell them as "brand new"

    • How long did it take to get delivered after you placed the order online?

      • +1

Ordered on 3 Nov and received 7 Nov

  • +1

    I went instore today.
If you cancel before 12/24/36 months is up, you have to pay for the Pixel 7 AND 6a in full!
The deal I'm currently on is not worth leaving.

    • +2

That's interesting and conflicting with previous comments.

    • This doesn't seem to be true at all.

      • +1

Perhaps I got bad advice via chat and instore!
This is why I asked via chat for full terms and conditions. This wasn't supplied.

As a side note, they are still using Windows 7 instore.

  • On a related note to https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/12906946/redir…
What if the 6a develops a fault? How long is the warranty? Does it even have a warranty? Seems like a bit of an ACL grey area.

  • does the pixel 6a have to be on a plan as well of does Optus just supply the device?

    • There are about 20 comments regarding plans here.

  • I just spend sometime chatting online, calling a few stores and then talking to the sales team over the phone. All firstly gave me different answers as to what happens if I cancel before the 12 months, then later on one store and the phone agent confirmed that would you will have to pay out the pixel 6a if you cancel the plan before the contract end date. So not really worth it if you don't plan on staying on till the end of the term.

    • Had similar confusing experience. Went instore and was told I need to stay on the plan for at least 3 months otherwise I will be fully charged for the 6a.

Later asked a chat agent, and they told me that I need to stay for the full plan term 12/24/36 months and not cancel so that I wont be charged for the 6a.

Yeah not worth it and risky.

      • Yep I had a store member tell me 3 months too which seemed odd and also said that if I cancel the plan that the warranty will only be for 12 months and not 24 like which google gives. Don't think Optus it self knows what's going tbh

  • +3

What a mess. I signed up for this bundle on the $49 plan. The Pixel 7 Pro arrived, but not the 6a. The delivery invoice in the box mentioned 'Pixel 7 Pro bundle' but other than that, no mention of the second device. I jumped on Chat and was told it was 'on the way'. Chatted again a couple of days later, they said I'd get confirmation of delivery in 24-48 hours.

Now, two days later having received nothing, I'm on the chat again and I'm being told that the deal only applied to the $89 plan and above! Which is clearly not true, because I have the paperwork saying I have the bundle on the cheaper plan. At no point did anyone say this deal is only available on the higher plans.

Quickly remembering why I left Optus all those years ago. Boy oh boy.

    • +1

This is ridiculous, but as I said.

      • Still chatting now, with one of the managers. They're saying the person who sold me the bundle on the $49 plan didn't realise it was only available on the $89 plan. But they're going to do some weird hack of setting up a new $0 plan so I can get the device.

I feel so sorry for the Optus people on the chat line that have to mop up this mess.

        • I'm glad they're doing a 'hack' and fixing it for you… except for the fact that the $49 is obviously an eligible plan!

          • @McFly: If this wasn't happening inside the Optus app, I'd swear I'm actually getting hacked!

            • @alby: If you're on a chat, would you like to ask them about this?

              • @McFly: Too late, sorry - they've signed me up to a mysterious $89 plan which they have assured me will be reduced to $0 (with no proof other than suggesting I take a screenshot of the chat) and then disappeared from the chat window. Will be interesting to see how this plays out!

  • How soon can you cancel the 12 month sim plan? As soon as you receive both phones? (dont want to be paying more than necessary)
Whats the process to cancel? Can it be done online? And is it hassle free? Do they make you jump through alota hoops?

    • +1

I'm interested to know, has anyone been able to cancel and confirm they weren't charged for the Pixel 6a?

      • Yes would be good to know of any extra charges like early termination fees

        • +1

Just rang up and cancelled, they confirmed multiple times that my total cost is $1034.88 (I got the 256gb model). I asked about the Pixel 6a, they said all they can see on my account is the Pixel 7. Guess we'll see, should have the bill early next month (next billing cycle).

          • @awesomeo: @awesomeo can you explain how the total cost for the 256gb model comes to $1034.88? Based on my calculation, the 128gb model with one month $49 SIM plan itself comes to nearly $1050.

            • @dealsgrabber: @dealexpert sorry my remaining amount is $1034.88, that's after I paid the first months instalment so total cost is higher than that.

    • Would be keen to have this confirmed as I got mixed responses from Optus.

  • Signed up in store on Monday. They didn't have stock at the time so submitted the order for delivery. When I look in the Optus app, the order is showing as 'submitted' and has been since Monday.

Has it taken this long for anyone else, and what was the status of the order when it progressed to the next stage (presumably, shipping)?

    • Same here. I ordered online on 7 November but it only says submitted. I think I will just cancel the order considering all different responses from optus regarding cancelling

      • Sounds like they're having stock issues, amongst other things. When the guy placed the order for my missing 6a, he said it would be something like 15 days.

        • Have you cancelled? Anything about Pixel 6A repayment?

          • @jawwns: Still hoping the second device turns up in the post. I'll give it a week or so, if no movement I'll get on the chat again and see what happens.

  • +2

Optus doing nothing but more bad for their rep here?
Could have had goodwill with a clean amazing deal. This sounds too risky.

    • +1

I think the deal is solid, they just don't know how it works or how to sell/fulfil it.

    • Couldn't agree more. My order was shipped yesterday and I called to check if both 7 and 6a were shipped, was told since I have chosen the $49 plan I am not eligible for the bonus 6a. Bonus is only available for the $89 plan. I insisted thats not correct and my back and forth and the rep checking with the supervisor, I was told I am anyone who selects the bundle while ordering will get it which they confirmed was applied to my order so hoping to get both devices and then straight to cancellation. Has anyone else cancelled the service and how were you charged?

      • +1

Can’t believe they are trying to pull the 89 dollar plan eligibility angle. How can you launch a promotion like this and make it up as you go along

      • I got the deal in store and was able to choose the $49/month plan

      • +1

I just chatted with them online and they trippled confirmed that the $49 plan is elgible for the bonus 6a.
        Proof

  • Has nobody asked Optus about the warranty on the 6a?

    • I didn't think chat would be open now, but it turns out it is.

      This is what they said:

We have one year for manufacture and one year from Optus
