Nappies & baby wipes

Hi all,
Newborn expected in December and thought I would see what everyone’s go to nappies & baby wipes are?
Obviously after proven products that don’t have any reactions/issues etc, whilst also affordable.
Cheers!

  • Huggies is what I'm using

  • nappies - been using huggies exclusively for both my kids - we tried all the other brands (eg, the aldi ones, the coles rascal ones, the hospital brand ones, and a bunch of other random samplers) cheaper than the huggies and we found the huggies was the best in overall absorption, avoidance of leaks and reactions to rash. If you have an amazon subscription they go on sale quite often when you buy when coles/woolies has them on special then stack subscriptions.

wipes - i like waterwipes, by far one of the most expensive ones, but very good in avoiding rash/reactions. again buy it on amazon when on sale and stack subscription

We started of with Huggies, but as time goes on we started using both nappies and wipes from Aldi.

Ones from Aldi are a lot cheaper and made in Australia.

  • Save the environment and use cloth nappies, also a very "economical" option.

if you're organized and can stay on top of the cleaning yes - but if you slack off..oh boyyyyy

    • also a very "economical" option.

Depends how much your time is worth…

        And your water bills

And electricity, as soon as it starts raining

        • I don't pay for those.

@jv: We've told you a few times now - i is not ok to steal your neighbours electricity. Unplug that extension cord.

We prefer Babylove nappies, but Pampers are also a good option when on they are on sale on Amazon. Pampers seem to be thinner than both Huggies or Babylove, which is good for warmer months.

WaterWipes are the most natural, but I found they were perhaps a little too natural in that I would still get the smell of poop on my hands! This is more of a problem for older kids on solids though, for newborn should be fine. We use Joonya wipes, which has more ingredients than WaterWipes but they are safe and effective ingredients.

Look out for Black Friday sales on Amazon, there tend to be quite a few different types of nappies and wipes on sale.

We found Aldi nappies for newborns suitable, but then switched over to huggies pull ups. As they got little older, needed the extra absorption. They're often on half price sales.
And we've been using Curash water wipes (blue). seems to work for us

  • We used a combination of Huggies and the Aldi ones. From memory, the Huggies ones probably were a bit better, but not my much and probably worked about about equal on a value perspective.

That said, nothing will save you from a "special delivery" and the attendant clean up.

  • huggies nappy and GOAT kids no fragrance wipes (they are on sale)

  • Tip is to use Huggies Ultimates for overnight / longer stretches. It is thicker, more absorbent and a tab at the back that will keep the big ones in!

During day time since it is probably 3hrs a change any brand would probably work. If you slack off then overloading and coming out from all sides become a problem. There is a bit of a tab around the legs, use your finger to swipe them outwards (so they keep the stuff in, if they are stuck facing in you might end up having excess coming out)

Wipes: Aldi has water wipes at reasonable prices ($2.69 / $2.99)

You might want to actually wash bum with water and cotton bud twice a day and use sudo cream after each change to avoid nappy rash. Nappy free time (20 minutes or so, give them a towel under (with change mat under that) in case to catch anything.

Good luck. Hope you get luck of the draw (one that sleeps well, otherwise tell us to pray for you).

  • Huggies - and nappies are one of those rare things that are 'actually worth' buying in bulk at costco in my experience

  • Buy only Huggies nappies and wipes, their quality is amazing, search for 1/2 prices in Woolworths / Coles / Amazon.
    - Sudocrem
    - Gaia bodywash
    - good quality thermometer
    - soft pillow or mattress etc(take care baby's head in initial days)
    - stroller
    - QV cream for dry days
    the list is endless :D

  • Nappies - Huggies but transitioned to cloth after 2 years, but this required more washing which may be hard if you dont have time/sleepless
Wipes - Curash (pink or blue)
Note, the above are usually purchased when on sale in bulk

  • We tried the entire gamut of wipes, and eventually discovered the Aldi & Woolies generic plain ones were the least likely to cause skin irritation. Also the cheapest.

Nappies were similar - one child reacted to Huggies and only took Babylove, and the next was the opposite and was fine on Huggies.

  • if using cloth nappies, see if someone can score you a heap of hospital sheets, cut up and use as liner

  • I rang a delivery service about nappies and they had the 'huggies' type and the 'snugglers' type. Their suggestion was if I had a boy, go with huggies, a girl go with snugglers.

Huggies are about the only (from memory) to make specific gender nappies - boys accumulate wee in a more specific place whereas girls wee 'spreads' around.

We found snugglers to be fine (two girls), and then discovered (okay, we're old!) the Bi-Lo nappies were brilliant - might as well have been snugglers.

See what suits your baby - some react to different brands.

You can always stock up and return - I always blamed my husband 'Oh, he brought the wrong ones again…' never questioned about it. Especially if you have stocked up and the baby grows!

  • I’ve mostly used Huggies but now baby is older I’ve switched to cloth and Aldi eco. Wipe hands down best are Bunjie get them on sale at chemist warehouse in a 3 pack for $11 they’re better than water wipes who are currently in trouble for not disclosing all ingredients.

    • Where did you get this info on water wipes ? Asking because I used them

  • I used mostly Aldi or Coles/Woolies brand nappies for my 4 kids and nappy wipes usually from Kmart. The savings definitely add up over the years particularly if you have many kids like me!! haha

    • I wish we had Aldi 30 years ago. By the time Aldi came to our area, our youngest had moved onto Pull-ups.

      • +1

My oldest is 15 so we've always been able to shop at Aldi, found the nappies there cheap and good quality.

Youngest is out of nappies this year so that's one less thing I have to worry about.

  • Merries (Made in Japan) from Panda Kids are much better than local brands. Would say BabyLove is the best local brand but more expensive than Merries. For wipes, we use Joonya and Kirkland. My daughter got nappy rash from the Huggies 'sensitive' wipes and the Aldi water wipes.

  • Water wipes were my go to but they lacked texture so switched to Tom’s which also seem quite mild.

However ended up buying a reusable Cheeky Wipes set and found it fantastic and would recommend as it uses natural oils - https://www.cheekywipes.com.au/all-reusable-baby-wipes-kits.…

Have some of these setup at the change table but also in the kitchen as they are handy for wiping hands and faces at mealtimes. I’m sure it has paid for itself several times over and very effective.
