  • dang bought through supercheap for $42 each didnt think to check if an ebay code stacked

  • Max is 1 per person I think?

    • Yep

  • +1

just checking for the guys buying this, do you give this to your mechanic(frown upon :D) or DIY?

    • +3

Prior to DIYing my fav Suby dealer didn't mind me supplying it.

    • +4

      DIY mate

    • I always used to give oil to my mechanic, last time saved me $100 off the service. Now I do it myself, but it's still a good idea!

    • my 2nd hand stealership didn't like it.

but afterwards my local independant did not care at all.

  • +1

You might be able to apply an afterpay code to take $10 off

    • which code?

      • should be targeted, I cant see it now, its "After#$%^&*"

  • Catalogue states a limit of 2 per person. Not sure how this works via their eBay store, doesn't prevent me adding more to cart. Perhaps they will cancel orders with a greater quantity.

  • Ebay was offering TOP7OFF in the checkout but was a dollar worse.

  • I have a 2003 Toyota Corolla with 240,000km on the clock - 5W-30 is the manufacturer's recommendation but should i change to a thicker oil with that many kms on it?

    • +1

Yeah 10-40 will be good, 5-30 is bot bad either though

    • +1

I have exact same car with 150K on it. Use castrol 10W-40 from long, no issues at all.

    • I got the same car and only use Castrol Edge 5w30 and haven't had any issues

But if it is leaking you might use a thicker oil for a slower leak but a leak is a leak unless you fix it

buy Z386 cooper oil filter from Autobarn $5 at the moment

    • +1

If you've got no problems with 5w-30 and your manufacturer recommends it then why change?

Thicker oil will increase your fuel bill…

  • +1

What is the impact on compatibility being A3/B4 as compared to normal 5w30?

    • What is the rating of normal 5w30?

My understanding is acea a3/b4 is not suitable for long drain intervals and should meet higher standards than a3/b3. This oil also meets the API SL/CF standard.

Check your owners manual for the correct oil spec for your car. Can also use this online castrol oil checker here but the owners manual is always the most accurate

  • Won't let me buy a 2nd one even changing ebay accounts and payment methods.

"This item isn't available in the requested quantity. It may have been purchased already, or the listing has expired."

    • I just got that trying to buy my first one.

  • How often do people change their oil?

    • 5000kms-10000kms-15000kms depends on how much you care for your car. I do every 5000kms

      • Every 5000km with this oil would be a waste? If you do it that often surely you can use the cheap stuff?

        • +1

Its not a waste if i need it

        • I use a semi-synth and change it around 3-5k km but I also dump additives in the fuel tank regularly.

If I was using this I'd probably change every 5k km at the earliest but happily push it further (also wouldn't dump additives in fuel tank as it can contaminate oil)

    • Different cars have different oil change intervals. 10,000k and 15,000k intervals are very common, but I've seen 20,000k on an Isuzu Dmax. How critical it is to change oil according to the intervals does depend on the type of oil you use. For example Mobil 1 claim to have synthetic oils that are good for 32,000k intervals.

How often do I change my oil? Not as often as the schedule says I should, but I use quality oil in it so going a couple of k over shouldn't lunch it.

    • 6 months. i do a lot of stop-start driving and short trips, not as many longer drives like i used to.

    • I usually top up my oil by about a litre/week, sometimes 2l if I'm doing s lot of driving. My mechanic drains what's left each 10k service and refills.
Regular top ups are still far more economic than getting the engine pulled apart and cylinders fixed

      • How many ks do you do a week??

        • About 700km/week in a vehicle that I've had since new, but is rapidly approaching its 20th birthday.
Simple economics says that even $4-500/year in oil, is cheaper than several $1000s to get it fixed, especially since I'll replace it once new car supplies eventually return to normal.

          • @CacheHunter: I'm not doubting the economics and am impressed it's running after 700k kms but still don't expect it to burn 1/2L week! Out of curiosity what sort of car/engine?

    • I only do about 1500klm/yr so usually annually.
I've bought so much of this stuff cheap I don't care about saving a few extra bucks on something else.

  • Is there a better oil? I can't find one… pretty good even for longer drain intervals if you want to push it a bit

    • yes of course there is but you'll be paying a lot more

all the GF-6 are pretty good

    • +1

I'm a huge fan of Penrite HPR5-40 tbh.
Have been running it for multiple cars in the family for a while now.

    • +1

      Shell Helix Ultra.

      • Yeah I've got a bottle of the Shell Helix Ultra X 5w-30 to try next. Interested to see how this natural gas extraction method compares… supposedly more pure

  • I have a victa hurricane lawn mower.
will this oil work for the Briggs and Stratton engine?

    • yes if it specifies 5w-30

    • no it wont be ideal, these oils aren't designed for lawn mowers, where their engine temperature isnt regulated like a car, have difference tolerances etc. I know you are probably trolling but you be better off running mower oil for you lawn mower

    • +1

Briggs and Stratton would probably even run fine on canola oil

      • My B and S won't die.

  • -2

    Not good for Qld weather

    • still good man

      • 10/40 better

        • It depends on your car, not the weather.

          • @shoppe: yes i should've said "10/40 is better for my car in Qld" but i can't edit it now

            • +1

@x x: nah 5w30 is still good if you car can take it… even better if it can take 0w8

lighter and also better fuel efficiency than 10w40

now if your car is leaking or has issues then I can't say the same

              • @Poor Ass: nah mine runs better with 10/40

                • @x x: what is it?

                  • -1

@Poor Ass: Toyota GSR50R 3.5L 2GR-FE DOHC-PB 24v MPFI V6. I'm no mechanic but in warmer climates 10/40 seems to run better. I bought it from a guy in Sydney who used 5/30 in his last service and after bringing it north the mechanic reckons it's too viscous and 10/40 runs better. Tbh you're talking fk all difference overall in the scheme of things between the 2

                    • +2

@x x: why didn't you just say Tarago

by the way 5w30 is less viscous I think you mean 5w30 is too light?

                      • @Poor Ass: yes champ viscous.. and its easier to c/p and they come in a 4 and V6

                        • @x x: bring to Logan and show me

                          • @Poor Ass: lol way too far, come down to palm beach and i show u.. what am i showing u?
we can go for a drive, have some lunch, grab a beer, watch the sunset.. it's killa at my place

It's not letting me do click and collect?

If I try that on the Android app it crashes the app.

If I try it on the desktop browser it says it's not available

    • Same here. On windows PC.

Choosing click and collect is fine… but applying the CRPNA code adds on postage, still saying clock and collect

    • Working for me via desktop selecting my local store (Campbelltown, NSW)

      • Thanks, I tried 3 more stores close by until one worked click and collect…. then i paid for it… and it had included delivery in it again

  • OOS all day today - normal for ebay? happy to try again tonight/tomorrow
