  • based, not bought but ok pricing

  • Bought 2.

  • I bought a new Asus Flow X16 laptop and am looking to get a 2TB Gen 4 NVMe SSD for the second SSD slot mainly for COD/Steam games, should my budget be >$300+ or is there something closer to $200? Do I need such high speeds? Cheers.

This is overkill for a secondary drive - wait until we get closer to Black Friday sales for a ~$200 deal

There should be a deal on one of the following:

      Crucial P5 (Gen 3, DRAM)
WD SN570 (Gen 3, no DRAM, runs cool)
Kingston NV2 (Gen 4, no DRAM)

Thanks bud. I'm not tech savvy, any idea if I need DRAM? I was going to get Gen 4 too because it's the latest?

No worries, keep an eye on this tag to follow the bargains - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/tag/m-2-pcie-nvme

DRAM is always preferable but with the newer controllers and drive designs, it is not an immediate "do not buy" flag like it used to be

Gen 4 just means the drive has the potential to be faster (and hotter) depending on the controller and drive design. There are well designed Gen 3 drives that are better than cheap Gen 4 drives

Thanks OP, got 1 because needed it for my laptop. Couldn't HODL for Black Friday sales, not certain if I would miss out during BF sales anyway - they usually get sold out so quickly. Was tossing up with the Kingston KC3000 which has a better TBW, but this one is a bit better I think.

    Thanks OP, bought 7

  • Good Deal, SN850X is better than SN850 or 980 Pro

IMO it’s worth waiting until Black Friday. There’s usually some decent SSD deals.

  • Sale price ended; now $399.99
