Is Fallout 76 worth playing? Or even trying?

TBH now its just like any other Fallout game, it has a full SP story mode if you dont want to party with anyone, just from time to time there is other players, the map is huge so sometimes i can play and see no one, (max per map is only like 40 or something low like that)

Even in the early days of 76 it was still worth a look. The engine/mechanics/atmosphere were all fantastic, and i had heaps of fun for ages just exploring, raiding locations and levelling up trying to get the best legendary weapons. The story was thin by fallout standards but that didnt bother me. From what ive heard the story is much improved and i'll replay at some point.

      • The engine was a complete joke and the reason the game failed…

    • I quite enjoyed playing it a year or two ago. I made it to level 100 and still hadn't completed all the in game quests. Since it is an MMO you are limited to retexture mods.

Just keep away from scorchbeasts and the fissures they inhabit while low level. The scorchbeasts are Fallout's dragon equivalent.

I have about maybe 300-600 hours on Fallout New Vegas and Fallout 4, and played all the other numbered Fallouts and enjoyed them well enough (wasn't a big fan of Fallout 3).

Claimed 76 on the recent free Prime giveaway after being curious about it for years, and I think it might be hands down the worst game I've ever played. It's completely soured my hopes for Bethesda going forward, especially hearing that a lot of their senior people who'd worked on every other game quit over this mess. It feels worse than a random amateur mod built on a a fallout engine. It's just recycled assets with no vision, story, interesting mechanics that I discovered before giving up, or really any sense of reason for even existing to any of it.

It convinced me to instead go back and finally play the DLCs for Fallout 4 instead, which has been much more fun.

Damn right. Bethesda really went downhill with F76 for all those reasons mentioned.

        • I honestly thought people were being dramatic (Fallout 4 was much better than expected), or maybe the launch issues had been solved by patches. But nope, if anything people understated just how bad 76 is and how pointless it feels to play, more like a random amateur demo level thrown together in a mod toolkit than a game.

  • I can never keep my Bethesda account linkedz some are better than others like RIOT, I usually end up not claiming the ones that need to reconnect every month.

GOG game keys however are my favourite to claim.

Fallout 76's very much worth it, it's fallout in its essence…

As of now it has the pit added as free dlc.
It's pretty overwhelming at first, but you can clearly see people have gamed the game(as their ranks practically 900+) and they'll always destroy your base, so hide it as it costs resources.

But if a level 100 enters into a building with you on a mission all the enemies become ultra strong.

So this is just in game content?

Can you claim if you don't currently own the game?

    • It was the whole game for me on my account. Activates on Microsoft store

This is what I see https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/159813/99207/fallout.jā€¦ - no mention of MS Store? It wants to link to Bethesda account though…

Strange. I would have liked to try F76 but not paying for it after the reviews!

Got downvoted for asking a legit question šŸ¤£

          gamers eh!

          • @beebul: I didn't get the whole game either. Not sure where you would get a key or activate on Microsoft store like rhimes said.

            • @ozbargainer88: Yeah no worries OZB88 - I will just keep my eye out for it in the future, I guess that was in a previous deal. probably won't get to play it till 2078 anyway… when I'll be 106.. woohoo

I'm probably gonna give FO76 a go one day but the story of Fallout 76 is pretty funny https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjyeCdd-dl8

  • I just got back on with the last freebie of fallout 1st from prime. I played for a few days before losing interest; however, if you haven't played, then the game that exists is fun enough to play through at least once.
It is still buggy as. If you can't deal with that, then skip it. The bugs (that I encountered at least) aren't game breakers, but can be frustrating.
