Did some research on these recently so here is a bit of info regarding NFC pay.

Garmin Instinct - Does not have NFC pay.
Garmin Instinct Solar - Does not have NFC pay.
Normal Garmin Instinct 2 - Does not have NFC pay.

Garmin Instinct 2 Solar and Instinct 2 Dezl - Does have NFC pay.

Oddly Japan market Normal Instinct 2 does have NFC pay, so I think the hardware is actually inside the watch they just disable it with firmware in certain regions.

And from what I read no you cannot buy a watch from another region with NFC pay and use the NFC function in Australia.

      • And from what I read no you cannot buy a watch from another region with NFC pay and use the NFC function in Australia.

Does that mean we can't use GooglePay in Japan or US ?

        • I think so. I can't find where I read it right now. But I did a lot of research back then so I might have confused it with something else.

One example I read there is a Xiaomi Mi Band China only model with NFC, but the NFC does not work in Australia.

But I just now found an Apple Pay information page on a bank website, that says Apple pay (NFC) will work wherever there is contactless payment that supports your card. So I am not so sure now. (Oh I think I get it now, this information is referring to Apple Pay on smartphones, not a watch. But isn't the NFC technology the same thing on both phone and watch???)

Also many smartwatches with NFC on Amazon AU via Amazon UK/US show (International model) in the title, so I thought that's what that is for. To show that NFC might not work in Australia?

        • Provided your bank supports Garmin Pay, it can be used anywhere. List of banks below
          https://www.garmin.com/en-AU/garminpay/banks/

      • If you have previously bought the instinct 2 Solar via Amazon UK for $394 the NFC payment still works in Australia! Better keep hands of the outdated instinct Solar 1. I guess the want to get rid of stock. They should put it down to $100.

        • I think you are right.

I just found this question answered on the Garmin Instinct 2S Solar Amazon page https://www.amazon.com.au/Garmin-Instinct-Rugged-Smartwatch-…
The Instinct 2S models are the same as the Instinct 2 models, so the solar version supports NFC.

          Question:
Are there any feature restrictions for use in Australia?

          Answer:
I have had mine for a week now and I haven't come across anything.

And I would expect them to have purchased the 2S Solar for the NFC feature and tested it on the UK import watch.

This is not the instinct 2

      • Yes Sherlock.

      • +1

Agree instinct 1 is not more worth than $199.

    • It’s old. The instinct 2 solar was previously just slightly cheaper via Amazon prime. Free delivery via UK for $394. I am waiting for this deal again.

I think I saw the same deal for the Insinct 2 Solar from Amazon AU via Amazon UK. But I wasn't 100% sure my memory was correct so I removed my mention of it from one of my comments above.

So yeah Instinct 2 Solar with NFC from Amazon UK at slightly less than the price of the Instinct 1 Solar in this deal.

Provided the NFC works in Australia with a UK Import watch. Which I think seems to be the case.

  • How much are they normally?

    • According to Jb-hifi it's $249 RRP.

      • 😲

  • worth buying ? Any good ?

  • I have a Fenix, how does the instinct compare?

  • Can this be connected to two phones at the same time
