  • No release date, no preorder

It does have a release date - Feb 10th 2023. Having said that I understand the scepticism on pre-ordering especially that far out. What I like about Amazon is you can lock in your price and cancel right up until a few days before. They don't charge any deposit or anything at all until it ships.

      • OP originally had dec31 release date i.e. placeholder

        • +1

I think that's still correct for the Switch verson, hasn't been given a release date yet.

          • -1

@McFodder: that makes sense cos i was wondering how the f they gonna get this open world game running on PS2-era hardware

            • @[Deactivated]: You think the Switch (released 2017) has the the hardware of a PS2 (released 2000)?

      • why would a game try hype itself up for so many years if it wasn't going to be another disappointment

    • +4

      Realeasium Datus.

    • Dude there's heaps of playthroughs on YouTube already.

      • +2

Dude you replied to a 3 month old comment.

        • Yea I realised but just incase people didn't know it's out.

  • -6

Given all the negative press up to this point, I have a suspicion this game is going to end up in the bargain bin after a few months post release.

    • +14

      What negative press is that?

      • -7

        JK Rowling getting semi-cancelled

        • +4

JK Rowling has no involvement in this game.

          • @JimmyLmao: I mean, she created the IP.

            • @PoxyRadical: Yeah but they're just working within that world, telling a new story, with no input from JK Rowling.

          • @JimmyLmao: She definitely cashes the royalty checks from it.

            • @MunkyAU: True, though by boycotting this you'd be doing a lot more harm to innocent/passionate game devs, as opposed to impacting JK Rowlings bottom line.

              • +1

@JimmyLmao: Nobody seriously boycotted the game anyway. It is selling extremely well. The only people who called for a boycott are the usual suspects like “woke” activists that find a problem with everything.

My recommendation for anyone who does not like JKRs politics and cannot stand the thought that she is set to cash in on the proceeds for this game: don’t buy it. But also do not spoil the fun others are having with this wonderful game. Remember that people have the right to a different opinion or not to care about the “issue” in the first place. That would include me.

                • -1

                  @maxbon: LOL @ woke… nice dogwhistle there

          • @JimmyLmao: Correct, not to mention it's set in the 1800s so before the books really. Sure they'll have the locations etc but completely new story

        • Not that at all. Some people will call for a boycott. Those are the people that were probably never buying the game and those that do want the game, don't care about that. There has been some criticism about lack of Quidditch, but the game is terrible anyway, so it doesn't matter.

It is more the several delays of the game, Avalanche Studio games are all mid, controversy from one of the former-lead designer's views, what has been released has pretty meh aesthetically and looks like it is throwing everything and the kitchen sink into the game but it definitely taps the nostalgia well, and there has been a bit of a flip flop over microtransactions for game that is meant to be single-player no online play (the latest is that no it won't but who knows).

    • -3

      Agreed

    • I thought this game was getting great press? When did the negative press happen and what was it about?

EDIT: Must have left this tab open for a while. The comment was new when I was replying to it.

    • +1

A large portion of the negative press is by far left wing gaming journalists with an axe to grind against J K Rowling. The gaming press has demonstrated time and time again their left slant (for reference, I am left, despite this post)

They take it to 11 with culture war bullshit. Just review the game. Sure JK Rowling does seem to be intent on saying stuff which is not very pleasant but if that pisses you off that much, don't play or review it, the negative backlash is crazy.

I don't even like Harry Potter, I think it's fine. Who knows? But be wary, a lot of the negative press is culture war stuff, not actual genuine game opinion stuff.

    • +1

Touch grass, it's a great game. If you don't want to play it due to J.K, fine, but there's a lot of people who grew up on Harry Potter that are happy to have such a good RPG.

    • Pretty much every game ends up in the bargain bin after a year or so. What matters are the sales in the days and weeks after release. And that’s where I think you are wrong. The game is selling extremely well. It is probably going to rake in more than 10 million copies sold in a matter of days and 20 million by the end of the year. Which is extremely impressive for a single-player game.

Oh and evidently, no one but the usual outrage-happy suspects gives a damn about a boycott. Which doesn’t even make sense in the first place. The game bends over backwards to be “diverse”. They even have a transvestite character. And forget about hurting JKR by not buying this game. She has long reached financial escape velocity and can say what’s on her mind without worrying about being cancelled.

  • +7

    Don't preorder ya numbnuts.

    • +4

Eh, Amazon make it pretty easy and risk free. Just cancelled my GoW Ragnarok preorder I'd had since July because it was only a few bucks cheaper than local store and I'd rather not wait for that one, but it didn't cost me a thing to keep the option open.

  • +1

I wonder how much they’ll have to butcher it to make it even startup on switch, let alone play

  • Shame it's not a full blown MMORPG.

    • While that would be awesome, it'd be a pretty different experience. Imagine Elder Scrolls Online vs Skyrim. I think an MMO Hogwarts Legacy would certainly have it's place, but couldn't replace a full single player experience. I'd love to see multiplayer elements added though, even if just being to teleport to some sort of arena.

  • +2

I love how they automatically apply the new price on the old preorder

  • Delivery expected Monday in Bris, bummer.

    • +2

try the amazon exclusive version - may have different delivery estimate

    • +1

Amazon exclusive delivered tomorrow in Brisbane.

      • PS5 yeah. Xbox out of stock :(

  • Should be noted that the Amazon Exclusive with extra DLC is the same price

    https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0BLRVLYGP

    • Thanks, I'll change the link directly to that.

    • Is the extra DLC just the hat on the cover?

      • +1

That's correct. In-game you will earn heaps of cosmetic items. (lots similar style to the hat).
If you could save an extra $10 using JB price match + perks. This hat (IMO) is not worth $10 lol.

    • It'll be cool if they added Quidditch in the game.

  • +1

Have the deluxe edition and can confirm if you have any vague amount of nostalgia for the franchise you will fall in love with this game!

  • +1

Mighty ape have for $79.99 delivered as well for those without prime.

    • +2

Thanks for the heads up. Prime is not required for this deal (free delivery for everyone as it's over $39).

      • Oh awesome, cheers!

  • JBHifi are price matching if you want to grab it from there. Picking my copy up this afternoon

  • Does this run at 30fps on console or 60fps?

    • 30, 40, 60 or 120 depending on settings

      • It offers a lot of graphics modes. I personally find the 40 fps (“balanced”) mode to be the best compromise.

  • +2

"FREE Prime delivery Thursday, March 2"

Amazon prime has become a joke in WA.

    • Had my pre-order in with them when the reviews rolled in with delivery promised today, then it got delayed so I cancelled it. Also in WA.

JB price matched so they get my money and I get the game today after all.

  • +1

Have had some bad luck with amazon deliveries if you want it on release day or even a day after.
Ragnarok delivery was delayed a week and now Hogwarts Legacy said delayed also. Being the weekend would prob come Mon or Tues.

Going to JB's to pickup hopefully a price match but id rather spend an extra $10 to play on the weekend

    • +2

Yeah I was hoping to play this weekend, but Amazon was estimating delivery next week. So cancelled my Amazon order and just got JB to price match. Order was ready for C&C within 5 mins.

    • I'm getting live chat on the JB website to price match. Used it a few times without issue, just do a click and collect order and I'll grab it after work.

      **

Live chat matched no issues, put the order through and immediately got a message saying my order is ready to collect. As a bonus I had a $10 birthday voucher so it was even cheaper!

  • Showing as no stock for Xbox Series X on any version.

  • -1

I was going to wait to buy this game when it's cheaper next year, but someone spoiled the ending for me on Facebook, someone who in their profile pic was wearing lipstick, makeup, and had their hair in a ponytail but otherwise looked quite masculine, so I think I'd better preorder it while I still can.

  • +2

Delivery for me is Thursday 16th. Last time I pre-order with Amazon . I expect it Day 1 not Day 7.
    Amazon Au = Useless

    • wow that's crazy. I didn't preorder it but I ordered it on the morning of the 10th and got it the same day at 9pm from Amazon.

  • +1

This bloody preorder has still not shipped!!! What the hell!!

  • I see people complaining about prime delivery dates, looking at this now, mine says one day delivery tomorrow 16th Feb. What's up with the big delays?

    • +1

For some people, depending on their location, Amazon never delivers on launch day. If you want a game on launch day you're usually better off walking in to EB or JB on the day.

      • Doesn't help the game launched on a Friday.

I cancelled my Amazon pre-order and used $10 JB Perk discount and picked it up for $79. Came with the pre-order bonus codes inside as well.

  • +1

This game seems to be selling very well, so it comes as a surprise that they are discounting it already.

I had bought the game digitally on Friday. It’s great fan service with vast and very detailed locations in and around Hogwarts to explore. Graphics are really good - perhaps with the exception of facial animations, where some lesser characters have not received the same level of detail as the main characters. Nothing too dramatic though, just not cutting edge in this area. All in all a great game to sink many hours into and remember your childhood when the Harry Potter books and movies were a big thing.

  • Still busy getting my horizon forbidden west get finished. Let's see if there is any further discount.

  • Ordered it last night for $88. Cancelled and re-ordered, thanks!

  • This game is really overhyped. The world itself looks amazing, but the story and game play itself are really quite underwhelming so far.

    • +1

Let’s just say: it has some of the typical open world problems. Like some side quests to fetch something from somewhere. Or to fight the same type of enemies over and over again. And there is the typical over-populated world where dark wizard camps, dangerous monsters etc. are just a stone throw distance away from Hogwarts castle - and nobody seems to notice.

But I tell you what: that’s totally not the point of this game. Which is that after 20 years of waiting, we can finally explore every corner of Hogwarts castle. I would have bought the game just for that. The story is just the cherry on top.
