Nah they have the signage in store in Sydney. Just seems that someone didn’t tell IT and they have no process to resolve in store.

  • Amazon card are taken by a large group of people. Annoying. Grabbed a few $50 Ultimate kids cards…

    • +2

      Bloody people.

      • People. What a bunch of bastards

    • Get the last one from my local store

  • Epic fail. Same problem at both Chatswood NSW stores

  • +1

They’re not scanning at 10% off - major clowns

  • +2

Went to an Aldi in Dee Why and the manager spoke to head office. Nothing they can do as it is a technical problem across all of NSW. He doesn't know when it will be fixed. Asked him to put some aside for me which he did so will try again tomorrow.

    • That’s nice, the store I was at said no to the hold request

    • Ended up buying some this morning from same venue… And only just realised that discount hasn't been applied! May need to go back and have a chat with manager…

  • Store manager apologized to everyone in the store this morning - ask customer to come back tomorrow. This is from Eastwood Aldi

  • +2

My local told me about the outage with activating the cards and said to just take them home and come back later to pay/activate. Perfect.

  • +3

LOL. Epic fail by aldi NSW.

  • Aldi QLD is still to open shortly, I wonder if they are in the same stupid IT error

  • +1

Came up as $100 at aldi in ACT, but talked to the store manager and showed them the offer and got 10% back as a refund. A guy ahead of me did the same with $500 worth

  • +6

Same. Epic fail for NSW stores. Gift cards "confiscated" at checkout.

  • No issues in VIC

  • Ugh this is why I hate ALDI with a passion. None on the shelf, staff said she's never seen Amazon gift cards. Checked the stock due to come in & it's not there either. They sell the other gift cards, not Amazon. It's still in the online catalogue for my local in NSW.

  • No dramas in VIC, got 5.

    • +1

Does anyone know if SB or CR usually do upsized cashback during BFCM for Amazon?

      • +2

CR often does with Amazon Sales… waiting, waiting…
        eg
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/703887

        • Capped $25 is not that exciting

          • +1

@buckethat: I answered your query with historical data.

I can't help you with CB caps. Speak to management.

            • @nismo: Haha my bad, didn’t mean it like that, just realised my response sounded very.. ungrateful for lack of better term.

  • All good in SA, only one other guy after the gift cards. No signage up but scanned at the right price.

    • Yup checked out at discounted price - bought 5 this morning.

  • Scanning at 90 at Murray Bridge, SA, even though sinage. There were stacks but very strict on 5 limit.

  • +3

Guys, it works now in NSW
Just got 5 with 10% off
Cashier confirmed it wasn't working this morning but is fine now when it scanned mine.
    Cheers!

  • Can confirm. API has been updated and discounts is now applying.

  • +2

All easy in VIC, there was a queue of about 15-20 in front of me and when the doors opened, to my surprise I was the only one heading towards the gift card rack! Seems like there was some kind of espresso machine on sale the mob was going for

    • Same here. No one bought gift cards, everyone went to the coffee machine section :)

  • Works fine in QLD.

  • +1

    NSW worked fine.

  • Thanks. Got my wife to buy 3 x 100 at Tingalpa Aldi

  • Plenty available at Adelaide airport store, didn't seem to be any interest in them actually.
Bought a couple, no signage but scanned at $90.

  • Can confirm it’s working now.

    Aldi Darlinghurst.

But I got all the remaining Home cards and there’s only Her left

  • Aldi Waterloo Danks St, they had a few more Amazon at the counter when I got there again. They didn't realise it had been fixed. But probably all gone by the time you get there…

  • Save my time then. Thanks for the feedback guys.

  • Amazon sold out in both Chatswood NSW stores, even before the 10% was updated.

Looks like people either had them reserved by managers, or bought the cards anyway with the aim of getting 10% refunds later on.

  • +4

No trouble at all, Aldi just full of pensioners at this time. Grabbed 5, plenty left.

    • Yeah that's kinda interesting huh, I never go Aldi this early but this morning when I got there, there were about 10 oldies with their carts ready to ransack the place. I was the only one that went for the GC tho.

  • +1

I was the only person getting gift cards when the doors opened. others were busy getting coffee machines

  • +3

Dont forget, if there is no stock, speak to the manager as most stores will have spare cards

  • +1

Managed to cop, only 5 cards on shelf in my store. there were a lot of Him, Her, Home, Kids & Teens cards. Seemed like most of the oldies were going for the tv or gaming chair.

  • +1

Are these easily hacked? Don't plan on using it right away and it looks like the numbers are exposed at the back. If someone had pre photo'd the numbers waiting for it to be activated could they Just use it?

    • If its Amazon why not just load it into your account? If its the Ultimate cards, 10% off is readily available, no rush to buy if you dont need it yet.

      • Plan on giving a couple as gifts so won't be activating immediately

      • Ultimate cards, 10% off is readily available,

        ready where?

    • +6

You need to scratch/peel the label to get the claim code. You would need to physically rip off the cardboard paper to get to the card and then peel. It would be hard for someone to hack.

    • +4

I don't see how the Amazon ones are easily hacked, you need to open the packaging and peel a sticker to see the code.

      • and the codes cant be brute-forced?

        • They probably can, they don't look all that complex.

Don't know if it's possible to buy Amazon gift cards on Amazon, using gift cards, but that would solve the problem

        • +2

They are 15 characters and need to be enabled at the cash register. So I think it is fairly safe, especially if you activate same day as you buy.

          • @Rafski: issue may be when activating then if someone were to buy these as xmas gifts

      • I would agree with Rafski and others it would be very obvious that the packaging had been tampered with in regards to the Amazon gift cards.

  • +1

Got 5 Amazon cards at Erskine Park NSW aldi. There were quite alot left

  • +4

The limit 5 per customer is enforced by the point of sale computer, not the person.

If you get a nice person, they just put through as two transactions, alternatively, do a walk around.

    • -2

Fun fact, I met a responsible staff at Coles who spotted and stopped me at my walk-around. I appreciate their integrity.

    • That's pretty standard but it doesn't stop you from rinsing and repeating mostly that's reliant on staff.

    • Can confirm the POS system prevents you buying too many through the same credit/debit card.

      Bought 5 at 10am - no worries.
      Bought 5 at 10.15am - no worries.
Bought 5 at 5.30pm - card declined multiple times.

Used another card and went through.

      • That's the bank blocking it. You'll likely get a call from their fraud department at some point.

        • +2

Yea, I was wondering if that was it. Its BOQ so may get a call next year or the year after about it.

      • Yeah I'm thinking bank too.

I book 10, then 2hrs later 5 more and it went through ok. So 15 cards in total

  • Yup one Aldi was totally wiped out. Went to another one and got some. 😁😛

  • +2

The manager at the Lane Cove Aldi thankfully took down our names, numbers and what cards we were trying to buy earlier on when they wouldn't scan for the correct price - he kept them for us till the system was fixed and called us to pick them up - have done so now so have my 5 x $100 Amazon cards

  • All good in Qld. Offered to put through in two transactions.

  • +2

Sunshine coast QLD, dozens of them still. No one seemed interested.

  • Trying to add to Apple Pay and they're not going through.

What is the expiry? I put in 12/29 (as shown in the "check balance" page for this particular card) and it didn't go through.

  • +1

Easy done - fair few Amazon cards left at the Fortitude Valley Aldi in Brisbane.

    • Thanks, grabbed them just then.

  • Picked up 5 from Aldi Lakemba. The store manager kept 5 aside for me in the morning.

  • Was successful at Aldi Bonnyrigg, plenty left when i went at 11am, at least 30

  • 11am Aldi Eastwood: they removed everything from the gift card section and kept them at the check out counter, there's quite a bit left there, good luck!

  • Went to Thorneigh Aldi, could not buy the gift card saying not in the computer.

  • +1

Aldi Melbourne CBD (Franklin St) had a good amount of stock of $100 Amazon cards at 10AM this morning. No issues at the cashier.

  • +1

Went to the store this morning and there were at least 100+ Amazon Gift Cards on the shelf
No one seem interested as they were all getting TV's and Coffee Machines
No issue with buying 20 at the counter and all scanned ok at 10% off

  • Also note some stores have 2 or 3 gift card racks.

  • I didn't plan to get any figuring they would be out but went to our local Westfield to pick up some other stuff and was about to leave and walked past Aldi. Went in, found the gift cards and there were at least 10 Amazon's so bought 5. Bit of a line to check out and only 1 check out open but the checkout operator was pretty quick so didn't take too long.

  • Went to my local Aldi an hour after opening and surprised to see still in stock Equally surprised staff member who served me didn't know about Amazon GC being 10% off. He told another staff member they were on sale while waiting for mine to activate. They didn't know either.

  • Just got into Canberra ALDI and got 10 Amazon gift cards in two runs!

  • Got 5 x $100 for $450 at Fairfield Qld just now no issues

  • -2

Just got 34 no problem. Thanks Aldi

    • Buying MacBook Pro?

      • Am eyeing off the razer selection OR considering doubling down and getting webjet/luxury escapes extra 10% off for either europe flights or a smaller bali vacation.

Torn between wanting tech and wanting a vacation lol

    • -1

And to the person negging me. There was still hundreds there. I only took what I needed for my specific purchase.

Could've cleared it out if I had wanted to but I'm not greedy.

    • 5 per pp I believe

  • +1

Got 2 from Lutwyche Central QLD. Still plenty there.

  • No Amazon GCs left in Aldi Riverwood NSW

  • +1

Got 23 with no problems, xd

  • Got 11 thanks

  • +2

Anyone tried taking non-activated card from say Coles and pay/activate at Aldi?

    • Yeah. Dont do that.

      • can i ask why? :D

        • +1

Not sure if serious. So here goes. Coles for example has say 100 gift cards. Does inventory. Sold 50. But only shows 40 left in stock. Oh gee. Where the 10 gift cards go i wonder?

          • +1

@xoom: i don't think retailers keep inventory of gift cards. They are worthless.

            • @spiinl: Yes so worthless that shops like coles woolies and aldi allocate shelf space for them. Im certain theres something in it for them.

              • @xoom: they probably earn their cut after activation.

                • @spiinl: So how will coles earn their cut when you paid for it in aldi? Or vice versa.

                  • @xoom: Aldi will get it. Coles will not. The Gift Card Store in this case, Amazon, not impacted.
