I wrote up a whole comment about how you could stack this with the current 5% off AmpolCash physical gift card offer, only to double-check the AMEX app and see that this cashback offer is actually only valid through FuelPay on the Ampol app. Oops.

FuelPay is only available at 604 Ampol locations around Australia.

    • Thankfully, FuelPay does not work at any EG Ampol locations, as EG Ampol recently rolled out their own version of paying from your car through their own EG Club app. That means you will not be able to accidentally fill up and pay at an excluded Ampol location.

    • Don’t forget to use the OzBargain referral system to get a 6c/L discount on your first three fuel purchases if you’re new to FuelPay, as that is the only discount (AFAIK) that you can use when using FuelPay. I don’t think you can apply a Woolworths fuel discount from the FuelPay app, but I could be wrong…

    • If the FuelPay-enabled location you are at also offers Everyday Rewards points for purchases (which is true for 595 locations), you can earn 1x point for $1 spent through the FuelPay app.

    • Ok, have I missed a 5% off physical gift card offer? Mind you, still 6% off egift at Shopback….and the other fact I have so much SuperSwap still to use.

      • You haven’t missed the 5% off AmpolCash physical gift card offer. I haven’t posted it here, as I have not seen a promotional flyer at my local Ampol location yet, so I don’t know when it will end, but it started last Wednesday.

I prefer AmpolCash physical gift cards for two reasons:

        1. AmpolCash physical gift cards are redeemable at all Ampol locations across Australia (including EG locations), whereas AmpolCash Digital gift cards are only redeemable at around 52% of Ampol locations in Australia.

        2. The one and only time I tried to redeem an AmpolCash Digital gift card at an Ampol location, the staff member insisted that they did not accept AmpolCash Digital gift cards. I ended up redeeming an AmpolCash physical gift card instead, and when I called up the Ampol customer service afterwards and pointed out their website says that location accepts AmpolCash Digital gift cards, Ampol customer service reached out to the site manager. The site manager eventually came back a couple of days later and said they actually accept AmpolCash Digital gift cards and the staff member was mistaken. Sometimes, telling an attendant you want to pay by card and swiping a card is just easier…

    • If you have Origin Energy app, you could generate 4cents/L only at EG.
The Shopback promo AmpolCash can only be used in Ampol branded due to egift voucher. It's confusing enough at the start.

      • Spot on. Hard enough for me….Poor bloody punters have no idea!

      • … to add to the confusion, AmpolCash physical gift cards are redeemable at all Ampol locations, including EG!

Btw, if you have the EG Club app installed, you may have an offer for a 5c/L discount, which is redeemable in-store or via the pay at pump feature. It cannot be used in conjunction with the Origin Energy offer, but it can be used in conjunction with the Woolworths fuel offer and/or the $5 spend in-store offer.

Although I am pretty good at maths, buying fuel is now becoming one of the biggest mental challenges of my life!
Luckily I am cancelling all of my Amex cards, and so that will be one less variable.

  • Presuming you can’t get the 6c/l (Tas) everyday rewards discount? That knocks the benefit down by about 3-4% depending on the price /l.

    Noice, thanks OP.

  • I cant even see the app in the play store

EDIT: HAHAHAHAHA that's because my play store is currently in turkey..

Crap…. I can only change it once a year? How do I change it back to AUS?

  • My local Ampol hasn't restock Amazon GC for more than 2 months. I don't want to stock up with Ampol gc as their prices are not competitive with the Metro near by - even after 4c discount.

There's no point trying to purchase gift cards at Ampol to try and take advantage of this cashback offer, as this particular offer is only applicable for purchases through the Ampol app, and I'm pretty sure you cannot purchase any gift cards through the Ampol app.

      • +1

Ah, thanks mate. I didn't look at the description closely.

        • Don't worry, I made the same mistake early this morning!

It makes me wonder whether Ampol will have future cashback offers exclusive to their app going forward (just like BP)…

  • +1

Those who have used the app, how is it compare to horrible BP app?

    • Lol, was just about to ask the same question.

    • +3

Much better, the process is different. You turn up at the bowser and open the app to make sure this option is available. The app will tell you to fill up first, then go back on your phone and enter the pump number. After entering the pump number it will pick up the payment amount, select payment method and confirm. Then just drive away. No need to wait for operator to do anything which might take forever like the bpme app.
The app load very quickly unlike the bp one that lags at every step.
Also it's doing introductory discount of 6c off on first fill, not sure how long it will last tho.

      • +2

Actually you'll get 6c off introductory offer for first 3 fill, and have the option to link everyday rewards discounts on it. These will show on the rewards section. Don't think you can stack them.

  • After price check around my place, found that with 6c discount and $5 off, I would be $3 better off if pay at Ampol with this deal.

So i refilled my car and paid with the app.

The experience with Ampol app was pleasantly good compared to BP app. I was a bit worried when selected the pump number and a message showed "pump was not used". Tried again and it went through successful.

Definitely will do refill again next time since it's better with $5 off and 6c discount.

  • I tried to use the offer today. Spent $50 + the 6c/L discount, however when I got the charge its coming up on AMEX as "Caltex Australia App". Anyone had the same thing happen to them and if so, did AMEX still apply the $5 credit?

    • +1

Yep. Didn’t even say App for me just Caltex……xx and credit comes up as Ampol…….xx

      • Cheers! Will wait for the credit then, I guess.

        • My payment is showing as Ampol <suburb name>. Credit back in about 2 days.

  • I just filled up and it was a very pleasant experience compare to bp app. Simple, easy and smooth process.

  • I tried creating an account, didn't see a section to put in the referral…

  • +1

I have done 2 transactions with Ampol app >$50 on my linked AmEx and no cashback despite being over a week. Transaction says Caltex but description says Ampol. Waste off money as I could have used my discounted gift cards and NRMA discount instead.
