This post contains affiliate links. OzBargain might earn commissions when you click through and make purchases. Please see this page for more information.

120 official AWS courses are free until December 9th, after which they'll be unavailable to "purchase".

After 28/04/2023 they'll be inaccessible, but that shouldn't matter to us since we're a bunch of Udemy hoarders who never complete the courses anyway.

Requires a US amazon account.

Amazon AU login should work for Amazon.com.. doesn't it work by default?

  • My amazon account was created when I was living in the US and hope it works. Thanks OP.

  • I have Au account and some of them purchased free of cost.

    • Can you access them tho? My account was created in the US and migrated (my kindle account is still in the US) Can add to list but can't access content

  • Are they video courses or text based? I'm too lazy to read content (as my kindle chest can attest it)

    • +1

Both. Similar to Microsoft courses but IMO a steeper learning curve because you need to learn/interpret Amazon's terminology and acronyms.

Most for cloud/integration/migration people in IT.

If you don't work in IT or a parallel industry you are probably wasting your time.

Any purchased courses can be accessed until April 28, 2023. You can also continue to access 500+ free digital cloud computing courses on AWS Skill Builder.

  • You can change the country of your Amazon account by going into Account Settings > Content and Devices > Preferences > Country/Region settings

    • You can add them to a list but that doesn't mean you are purchasing them / can access the content. Even with the VPN on.

  • do we know why they’re becoming unavailable?
    are they outdated?

    • Looks like amazon is just moving their training to a new platform.

Not sure if that's a deal.
All those courses are always $0 on official AWS certification&learning site https://explore.skillbuilder.aws/learn

for example, https://www.amazon.com/DynamoDB-Serverless-Architectures-Tra… is the same as https://explore.skillbuilder.aws/learn/course/external/view/…

Block-quote we're a bunch of Udemy hoarders who never complete the courses anyway.

So glad to know that it's not just me.

  • Thanks, grabbed a bunch to clock up my professional training hours. I could click through and see the courses straight away

  • Looks like everything is now here in an updated platform, probably wouldn't bother with the old courses…

  • Will completing the courses issued certifications so i can proudly display in my LinkedIn profile.

  • Can anyone recommend good ones in the low skill range (entry to cloud, not to computers)

Firebase seems better then aws on price, and naming convention.

If we compare Microsofts azure certification blobs were enough for me to never engage with a Microsoft certification ever again… Blob really that's a terrible name.

  • any easy way to grab all of them? my fingers hurt trying to grab one at a time.

  • Anyone at work using AWS with an expensive bill can tell me if they offer free exam to their VIP clients? I have seen free Azure and GCP exam vocuhers at work but not AWS.

    • What's expensive tho?

      • +1

I think my workplace easily paying 200K+ per year and we get unlimited MS training and exam vouchers. For GCP we spend less and still get training + exam voucher.

That's what happens when you're falling behind in market share, you have to give away freebies to entice people to come on your platform.
Microsoft is trying to hard and their cloud is not user friendly/ too locked down.

        • If this is really what you pay for your aws bill, we can get you lots of perks as we are aws Partners.

Just hook me up with the person responsible for your aws account, and I will get you as much as I can.

We got free vouchers to undertake exams after completing courses- formerly in the Govt.
Also, if you are certified, you get a 50% off voucher for next exam you purchase for a period of time.

    • AWS not even offer free exam to their own employee…it's only 50% off… frugality is in the amazon leadership principle

  • Is there a way to download these courses?

For those curious to know the certification path, please refer to this.
    https://aws.amazon.com/certification/

The cloud certified practitioner is entry level, and very basic, so I would recommend starting with Solution Architect Associate.
Depending on where your interest lies, you may either proceed with the developer or architecture stream. There are specialisations as well- viz security and data analytics ( they change the name, so I am using the generic term)

Either of AWS, Azure or GCP is good.
AWS is the biggest, but if working or planning to work in the government, pursue Azure ( a bit simpler as well).
GCP is still playing catch up- very late entrant, but knowing Google, their products and offerings will be innovative. Still niche in Australian market.

    • Good luck chasing an AWS associate certificate without previous exposure. There is a reason why there is a cloud practitioner certificate
