The mass exodus from Optus continues.

What's the policy on early cancellation?

    • +2

Its pretty much that you have to pay out the remainder of the phone and then 3, 6 or 12 months of the plan depending on how far into the contract you are
I cancelled out of my 2 year contract with 8 months to go and had to pay out 3 months.

The T&Cs for the plans indicate that you pay a max of 12 months usage (pro-rated depending on how long you have left) plus also the value of the voucher they gave you. Since they effectively gave you 1k off the phone, you'll most likely have to pay back that discount in addition to the termination charge for the plan.

At most, you'll pay $1828 ($828 plan termination fee plus the $1000 discount).

Good deal but wish it was $1000 Gift Cards instead. Sigh

Optus is a sinkhole for LNP hasbeens and wannabes. You get what you pay for.

      Ok.

  • I am interested in buying a S22 ultra. But I dont need much data and am happy with the Boost 130/140 GB per year which we can get for much less than $200. Isnt it much cheaper to buy a S22 ultra from the Samsung education portal when they have their regular deals? I am expecting one soon as S23 release date gets nearer.

    • Same for me I don't need much data, 60~100GB/year is enough. Don't know if i could go with this deal and cancel the plan

  • Think there will be a better deal over Black Friday?

    • Here's hoping

      • Yes hoping for discount on the fold handset in addition to the $1000 off….

    • HODL till that also

      • Can't change yet anyway as only 3 weeks ported out so far

  • What do the phones prices come to be?

    • Look at house prices

    • It's in the catalogue linked to the post

Remember when you'd sign up to an expensive plan, and they'd throw in the phone?

The fact that 1000$ off any phone is still not covering it is ridiculous.

    • I can remember having a new iPhone 4 included on a $59 plan. After that I had to increase my spend or pay for the phone.

      • Even that's not terrible all things considered, relative to the time. What, iPhone 1 was 2007, so the 4 would be 2010 then yeah? Back then 30/40 odd bucks would be more or less what you'd need to get through an average to slow month of calls on a prepaid dealie, which is all but ignoring any internet use too. Being the iPhone, I can only assume it had some data included too, which would have cost a pretty penny in the day, can't say I remember exactly, all I remember is when they started included 50mb in my prepaid plan and I was over the moon with my shitty old mobile Facebook whenever I wasn't on Telstra with 0.fb.

19/29 over a year would be 228/348, which is a good deal less than the iPhone would have cost, Google says they wanted 850 prepaid at launch here, which is still (profanity) ridiculous, but at least you'd have got 2 years of credit and "saved" a bit of change too in going this way. Of course, that's what they wanted you to do, they wanted the plan to subsidize the phone and all that, get you on there, get you connected to them, etc.

So why then, am I now paying STILL hundreds out of pocket AFTER signing up for a 2 year expensive ass (profanity) mobile plan?

Anyways, I'm sitting pretty with my $35 p/m Felix deal, acting as my entire home WiFi for almost 2 years now. Maybe it's just not a deal for me.

Right? Seventy bucks a month for two years and still having to stump up extra money is a joke.

$100 per month for 24 months, curious to know who really signs this kind of contract.

    • People with money

    • +1

? This deal is $69 per month.

      • Misread, my bad.

    • I actually get the $89 per month for 24 months with 300GB deal as I use it as home internet solution. The extra $1000 gift card was bonus though.

  • Apologies I think that has been covered before, how long do you need to not be a Telstra customer for to get this?

    • 28 days I believe

    • +1

Doesn’t the old trick like signing up a new number then contact Telstra to port your existing number to this plan work anymore?

      • Not really.

      • Totally forgot about this! It seems like a few people did this in the August deal so I think you can still do it

  • 24 months hodl

  • +1

Bring on the 12 month deal. they did it for "click frenzy" last year with a slightly worse one for blackfriday.. Fingers crossed
