Optus kept my data for over 9 years, the pricks. Was pretty shocked when I received the letter that my data was breached. I'll never buy anything from them again. Hope they get taken to the cleaners by the class action lawsuits.

    • +2

They wanted to sell it eventually

      • But then they refused to buy it back

I got an email today from ahm (insurance) for a policy I stopped more than 12 years ago. My data was stolen. Makes you wonder how many companies have your data that's decades old. At least ahm are provided crisis counselling for those snowies that can't handle the pressure.

That me now had my data leaked from Shopback, British Airways, Aeroflot, ahm, an unnamed university, LinkedIn and MyFitnessPal in the last 4 years. I think the hackers now have everything but my DNA.

      • They don't need DNA to clone you. They need your mula

    • That's not gonna happen , does the same apply for Medibank !

    • I thought that at first, but then I realised I switched from Optus to Virgin Mobile who ended up being bought by…Optus.

  • +5

How is this good? Like at all?

    • I agree! Considering it's Optus should be a 48 month plan!

  • +1

I got the email today saying my data was leak from ahm from a policy I stopped >12 years ago. I don't think you can trust any companies at the moment and I put the blame with the government. These clowns need to either update the laws or enforce them.

How could this have happened? We've had years of our IT workers telling us how great they are on here and Reddit. Totally deserving of their 6 figure salaries and Mercs…then Russian hackers decimated our companies' security systems like Ukrainian fired Javelins through Russian T-90Ms

  • Are all sure it was just Optus you don’t trust ?;)
    Telstra Vodafone all good ?:D

Can sign up and cancel and just pay $298.08 + $49?

    • Doesn't look like it. Looks like a monthly credit against it only if you stay on the selected 24/36 month plan.

    • $57.28per month
Min. cost $930.88. Includes device payments over 36 months and one month of your chosen plan fees.

Oh, I came here to say I have this phone and it still runs well today. Battery life is a bit sucky with 5G, but security updates have been regular (I think monthly or bimonthly) and android system updates have been happening also yearly (From Android 10 to 12 now). It is getting on in age (Sept 2020) and I believe Samsung will only give Android updates for 2 years and security updates for 4 years. Overall, it's a great phone now, but if you are planning on keeping it for the length of the contract it will likely be a very different story in another 24/36 months.

If you are a light user this might be alright for you (I'd still go with the A53 or A73), but for anything intense, partially DeX, I would go for a much newer model (even a refurbished S21Ultra or S22+). For those wondering, DeX is a very interesting concept and people have managed to dump their laptops and solely use their tablets / phones for work and entertainment. Here the reddit group for anyone wanting to see what it is and where its going

    • You only need a second hand note 8 or 9 for dex.
      No need for expensive phone

      • I don't know then. I have found DeX has slowed down with each update for the S20FE anyways. Maybe its Android slowing it down then.

        • Samsung was sued in the past for deliberately slowing down their older phone models to pressure buyers to purchase new models.

          • @shegeloaf: Interesting. Seems to be a fair number of articles from 2022 on the topic. I guess if they are doing it, Samsung didn't learn from Apples "mistake"

    • S20FE will get Android 13

      • Samsung states all phones get 2 years of system updates (So this phone started with 10, updated to 11, then 12) and 4 years of security updates.

Going off what they say, no.

        • I remember reading it's three major updates.

It is mentioned on this schedule -

          https://9to5google.com/2022/11/08/samsung-android-13-update/

          • @ihfree: I read 2 years of system updates & 4 years of security (The 2-4 rule). This update would be just outside that 2-year mark, so possible it's simple enough for Samsung to re-write parts for the FE series. All I know is what they stated in PR campaigns, which 2 years of system updates was more than most and 4 years security was very generous. I also note that companies have stated certain devices (mainly Samsung watches) would get the wear 3.0 update that never happened. I would be going to the source for your information if that is a major factor.

            • @Froot Loops: https://news.samsung.com/global/samsung-raises-the-bar-for-m…

Samsung Electronics reinforced its commitment to offering the best mobile experiences possible for Galaxy users by supporting for three generations of Android operating system (OS) upgrades on millions of Galaxy devices.

              • @ihfree: You left out the up to part. If it happens, it happens, if not then so be it. I'm not sure why you bothered asking the question when you have all the information. As stated, I read and it's in the phones product info that the 2:4 rule (2 years of system updates and 4 years of security updates) would be provided with the device. I'm not going to state it will get 13, when no one's knows this yet (apart from Samsung). As stated with their watches, they failed to give updates to WearOS 3 on many devices that 3rd parties reported it would.

                • @Froot Loops:

I read 2 years of system updates & 4 years of security (The 2-4 rule)

I actually can't find that from Samsung. Do you have a link?

I've linked Samsungs press release which uses the language "three generations of Android."

Also, my earlier link is based on an article on a notification from Samsung through their members app to Korean users. I think it's pretty much a sure thing based on:

                  • their policy
                  • the announcement to Korean users
                  • the popularity of the phone and the users they would burn if they didn't follow through

As stated with their watches, they failed to give updates to WearOS 3 on many devices that 3rd parties reported it would.

It's good to be sceptical but in this case, I think there is sufficient evidence that the phone will be getting Android 13. We will see in December or early next year(if there's lag with global versions) if it's the case.

I don't see how this is a good deal. The plan you get it on is terrible value

    • +1

It is a good deal… for Optus.

  • Optus didn't tell me my data was breached but VicRoads did. VicRoads will change new drive licenses for all Victorian. They also gave priority to these people who affect in Optus data breach.

    • I called vicroads about optus data breach. They are not issuing new licence numbers to anyone. They are simply adding a "card number" which will be used for "additional verification". Initially they will print out some stickers with the card number which you can add to the back of your licence. Eventually (many months down the track) they will print out new licences and send those out.

  • Samsung Galaxy Note 7 FE Lite Non-Pro 3G Bomb 64GB $2298.08 (Save $5600.48) + 48/96 Months Plan Cost @ Hacktus

    Great deal.

    • I'm in. I just hope Medibank don't leak my claim details for my trip to the burns unit.

  • I don't see why many plans exist anymore with pre-paid offers being pretty decent for the average user (which is nearly all of us). How many people actually go through that much data offered with these so called deals??

  • $1,474.08 total cost

  • one might as well list their personal and bank details on public blogs and platforms

  • For anyone like me who is on the fence like i was, I spoke to Optus via chat and managed to get 25% off the $49 plan each month bringing it down to $36.75/month.

    $36.75/month for plan
    $12.42/month handset repayment

    $49.17/ month for 24months
    $1180.08 total cost

  • -1

let me explain this "deal" futher for those who might be interested in:
if you signed $49/pm for 24 months with the device (S20 FE):
and if you quit after 6 months, you need to pay ($12.42+$25.02) *18months = $673.92 for device termination fee, (upfront $298.08, the total payment for S20 FE is $972)
and if you quit after 12 months, you need to pay ($12.42+$25.02) *12months=$449.28 for the device termination fee, (upfront $298.08, the total payment for S20 FE is 747.36)

so…Optus think we are bad at Maths?

    • You receive a discount of device cost if you stay on a plan

  • Stacks with student discount for 10% off plan cost if you're eligible

  • Tried to chat with support to see if I could get it attached to a pre-existing plan that I basically pay nothing for, Wanted me to sign up for a new plan but offered me a discount on the plan. I declined as I really only wanted to pay $300 for it but maybe chat can hook you up with a better discount on a plan if you inquire.

  • Called floptus about data breach. They said they don't hold identification document numbers for prepaid customers, only postpaid customer. Prepaid customers "only" had personal information like "full name, address, DOB, phone number, email address" leaked. In addition to personal information, floptus retains ID documents for postpaid customers.

Think about this before you sign up for a postpaid plan with floptus.

  • For anyone considering this offer, take into consideration the lousy customer service standards.

Partner signed up online this morning, received text/email confirmation and a following text to call a 1800 number to confirm some further details. From there she called the number, was told she had to call another number to which she got forwarded again from there and nobody has any idea what is happening to now be told that her date of birth doesn't match with Telstra (she's transferring her number over).

We are now going to attempt to cancel the contract before it goes any further.

It's been a downright pain in the rectum to deal with the poor customer service and lack of English (Australian operator wasn't available).
