  • Looks like a good one :)

Stupid question. Any chance this could be shortened? As if want it as low as possible.

  • is this any good?

  • How are these for cooling? My unit gets to 30 degrees by 7 am, would love to have something that I can turn on and leave run all night

    • +35

It's just a fan, it will blow your 30 degrees around the room.

      • +2

I point my fan out the window when its hotter inside than out.
Doesnt help when its 30 degrees outside too though

      • Wind chill!

        • so 27 degrees?

    • +1

These are typically higher velocity fan that targets a smaller area, if aimed at wall or obstacle, it tends to generate gentler/wider area breeze as the air is reflected off. Whereas a typical fan typically used to directly blow towards you, so the flow is more head on. Obviously, you can still use these to blow towards you head on, and they do offer quite a breeze.

But overall, they are just fans, don't believe the marketing hype.

Cool, I thought by the write up, it offered refrigerated Coolio, damn

Here, take my +1 for being BSB's perfect fan…

  • +1

    Is this a dc fan?

    • +3

Nah mate, it's a BSB fan.

      • +1

        marvel fan?

      • What's that?? Google brought me to Backstreet Boys fan club.

        • see deal. those are lyrics.

        • Haha, the back street boys has this song called 'The Perfect Fan'. Tribute to their mothers. This is just a play on that.

  • +2

Link to the DC variant for those interested: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/293799748616?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mk…

Works out to be about $50 dearer than the one posted by OP but has more fan settings and runs a bit quieter and cheaper on electricity upkeep to operate.

How does this even work for heating and cooling? I get the bit about circulating air from an AC/heater… but this thing has an actual temperature setting.

    • Cooling via fan.

Heating via good ol elements ala the good ol fan heater.

The temp setting is just for show like most of the thermostat settings on fan heaters.

    • +2

It doesn't cool. Just circulates air.

  • 40W cooling power and 1800W heat power deliver a fast air movement rate of up to 15m3/min

  • +5

    This or Vornado DC?

    • Yea, would like to know this too.

  • How many fan speeds does this have?

    • +1

      3

  • +6

I don't have one, but it looks like installing it will be a breeze.

If you're a fan of instruction manuals, you'll be blown away by this one.

    • +2

This comment is just hot air.

      • It won't get blown away by this, that's for sure!

I own one, use it in a 7m x 4m room and it has the ability in winter to raise the temperature from approximately 16 degrees to 20-21 degrees and maintain it. The heating function has one fan speed, with 3 heat settings (low/high/eco). Eco uses the high setting until the room is around 20 degrees (from memory) then changes to low to maintain.

I've used the fan "cool" setting (5 speeds) more recently and even though yes it's a glorified fan it does do a decent job to make the area more comfortable.

I paid around $200 (6 months ago), would buy again. This is a great deal!

    • Is it expensive to run when heating?

      • 1800w = yes.

      • It's a heater so yes.

According to my calculations, it costs around $1.50 - $2.00 a day using high/low settings.

        • I feel like its cheaper to run this than my gas ducted heater as its only myself at home.

      • +1

Unless you have something fancy like a split system aircon with a heater mode, all electric heaters are more or less the same. A little fan heater, a bar heater, ceramic, oil, panel, they all give you effectively 1 watt of heat from 1 watt of electricity.

How loud is it on a scale from Quokka's fart to P Plater's Commodore.

      • +2

Can't hear it when Damo is full sending it outside.

  • I've been using mine a few months now, recently switched to fan mode for the summer months.

I think the product itself seems very good quality, and I like that it's sort of a compromise between the less-drying nature of oil heaters, and the quicker heat associated with a standard filament heater.

And noise level isn't too high for the bedroom (WAY quieter than a vornado), we have it on top of a chest of drawers in the opposite corner of the room. In winter I just set the thermostat to 19, with oscillation on, and go to sleep.

In some ways I find it's quite an unintuitive product to change settings. For example on the remote control, the HEAT button isn't next to the temperature up/down controls. And in the short time I've played around with it, I can see any difference between 'low heat air' and 'high heat air'. And i really don't understand the point of ECO mode.

Having said all that, I like that it is less drying than a normal fan heater (since the air isn't as hot), I like the 2-way oscillation, I like that it returns to 'home' position after use, and the quality seems good. I also like the form factor, it being on a mini pedestal.

I'd buy another if I needed a room heater.

    Good product
Had to replace the item cuz it broke within 3 months, but overall love the product and very good customer service provided by AO.

      Good product
Doesn't cool me down very much, but it makes a "whir whir" noise that I kind of like, and if you switch it to 3, it's even louder.

  • Where do you apply the code to get it for $118.30.

    • AT the borttom of the cart

      • Thanks matey

  • Thanks, Op. got one. Site says last 1 left after I bought it

  • And now it’s OOS

  • Received mine this morning. This wasn't immediately obvious to me but there's a switch next to the cord connection on the fan that you need to switch on to turn to standby mode. The battery in my included remote was also upside down so had to switch that around before it worked. Just an FYI for those who think their fan is DOA lol.
