There is a purchase limit of 3 units per account. It does not mean there are 3 units for sale.

    Comment highlight include:

    • Add $28 for Australian maps.
    • One can avoid this by installing open-source maps.
    • No touch screen.
    • But buttons work better on this device.
    • The Edge 5x0 series reaching end-of-life in Jan/Feb 2023. A new model could be released any time in the next 6 months. This is a good price as the next model will be in the $450+ range.

I’ve been tempted for a while as a returning cyclist. I know that a new model shouldn’t be too far away, but under $300 was enough for me to grab it. Cheers.

Great head units and features for the price point. Nice form factor ensures pretty long battery.
Had mine for 3+ years no issues. I wouldn't want touch screen, buttons work better.

ps I got a tempered glass screen protector from ebay as well for a few bucks :)

Is the 830 worth the extra $?

    • The touch screen is much easier to use for configuring the device and working with the maps. It can be a bit awkward in thick gloves and in the rain though.

      • Can't say I'vr really used the maps as far as route and turn by turn navigation.. have to have the route pre loaded with the Strava plugin and ready to go. Pretty hard finding it in the settings when you are moving as well.

Still way easier getting your phone out if get lost.

        • Yeah the bigger and higher resolution phone screen is still easier….

@hmof: Probably but like the smaller one. Cheaper, longer battery simple .

A lot of people have moved to wahoo elmnt bolt anyway, I'd consider it next time, but too easy sticking with Garmin with the matching mounts. The sensors should work with both though.

            • @G-rig: I know people who've moved back from Wahoo though. The grass used to be greener but not so much any more.

              • @hmof: True, I can't really complain about this unit, easier staying with one or the other.

Been eyeing these off last few days and was contemplating waiting for Black Friday but would probably get pumped with orders. Good price notwithstanding the fussing needed for local maps.

Garmin is outdated UX, much better off with a Wahoo Element Bolt

  • Does it get warranty?

  • I looked at this but bought a Lezyne Mega XL… B&W screen but does it all and has a 40-hour battery, has been flawless for the 6 mths Ive had it. $229 at Bikebug https://www.bikebug.com/lezyne-mega-xl-gps-computer-p-96763.…

    • It is not about batteries or size of the screen but Garmin's superior big data stored over the year. You will get correct info from them. You will know when you know what I am talking about. I was same as you before. Although I am done with Garmin and moved on

  • I ordered similar Garmin item from Amazon UK on 12th and even got free international shipping (prime member).

But! Still “delivery date pending, we’ll let you know once we ship it”. If you need something fast, I wouldn’t risk it.

    • Prob better trying to get a price match hey (or buy it anywhere and lodge a shopper's protection claim if you got 28d card and that option)

      • A bit off-topic - but would Amazon UK qualify for shopper's protection on a 28d card? Was under the impression that it had to be an Australian retailer (or does the fact that it's going through amazon.com.au make it eligible)?

        • +1

It does when it's on the Amazon AU site, via UK, and have done it a fair few times.

          • @G-rig: Thanks - I have shopper's protection but had never really thought about using it for Amazon!

      • 🤦‍♂️ me being thick as …

Mate, thanks, it’s a great idea. JB Hifi couldn’t match the Amazon price exactly, but they gave me a very good discount. So I got it including same day delivery just $30 more than the original Amazon UK price. Happy as a clam, thank you!

        • Any chance you could share that receipt? Also, is it only specific JB Hifi's that stock this? Can't see the 530 on the JB Hifi website.

          That's good man

My order hasn’t even been shipped/tracked yet. Less than ideal.

    • +1

same. I did messaged Amazon for help, they informed me that there has been some system issues with Amazon UK and they've raised a ticket for me, expect an update in 7 days time =(

      • +1

That sucks. Must be some bf sales from elsewhere around soon or now.

  • Mine just shipped today.
