  • By tile though, not a big fan.

Anyone have any experience with this?

    • +3

      Yup. I have one.

Stopped using it fairly quickly. Tile just wasn’t that good. Having to charge my key fob frequently sucked, too.

I now have a Ridge key holder with an AirTag and it’s so much better.

      • @giventofly just another thing to charge, hey?

Thanks, it had me thinking at my keys ringing but I'll avoid.

        Not all heroes wear capes!

        Ridge key holder

As much as I like the Ridge aesthetic, I can't justify their price-tag (Wallet from AU$135, Key Holder from AU$105)…

I bought the equivalent to a Ridge wallet from Drop about 3 years ago for around $20. Ridge like anything that is promoted by YouTubers and their like, is overpriced and sometimes sub-par: EG - Manscaped, Raycon, Ridge etc. I guess it's the modern day equivalent of "As Seen on TV"

          • @Cordova: I bought a Ridge wallet from Drop.com (when they were Massdrop) and it was $53USD. This was in 2017

They are quality products, wouldn’t compare them to Raycon and all that other crap YouTubers peddle.

Been using it everyday for 5 years. Still going along perfectly well with about 14 cards in it.

        • I hear ya, but I love it. Got the burnt titanium. It’s sooooo nice.

I nearly went with one. But charging a key fob seemed sucky. Especially Micro-USB. Also read a lot of reviews saying the plastic basically gives up fairly quick.

      • Sample size of one here. Mine is holding up ok. I’ve had it for 2-3 years.

Charging it is really annoying. Whenever I misplaced my keys the battery was flat. These day have an AirTag attached to it and I’m a lot happier.

      • What they need is wireless charging capability…. possibly hear it first here! :D

    • By tile though, not a big fan.

What's wrong with Tile? I agree that this item is a bit useless, particularly when you can get 4 Tile Pros for $123 and just put them on standard keychains.
I recently bought some for luggage tracking and worked well when our bags all got sent from LA to Melb instead of to Brisbane. I could see that they were all together and track their progress home pretty well. Also been useful just for easily finding keys around the home.

I also have one in the car and can track it on Home Assistant. All in all I've been pretty impressed with tile.

    Really liked the idea however whenever I see something that's still Micro USB charged I either think it's;
    1. Really old
    2. It's a really cheap piece of tech

It just doesn't make me think it's a quality product when it's almost 2023

Honestly a horrible interface, everything I own that uses micro usb is loose and wobbly now, you have to balance it in a particular way to make it actually charge, phones, headphones, ear buds the list goes on, have never seen a good implementation of micro USB.

Also FWIW the interface is cheaper to license over usb-c which is why you'll find a lot of stuff still coming out with it, as you said especially cheap tech.

      • Honestly a horrible interface

I would prefer Mini-USB to Micro-USB, at least Mini-USB was fairly robust.

  • Does it work like air tags?

  • Mine doesn't even charge anymore, still using it as an organiser. Had to 3d print one of the sides for a replacement as the other snaped. I'd go a metal or leather organiser next time.

  • I have been using plastic one ( I don't know if they are same).

keep all your similar shape keys together. but the battery life is questionable.

I will buy again but I hope they have made improvements on batteries.

  • Meh, orbitkey is better.
