MMmmmm, probably ill wait for something like this,
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/722570

Still got stocks from the previous :)

  • +5

Make sure you take the made in Japan ones, not the Aussie made ones

    • +2

I'd rather drink red tins than CUB Asahi.
Still better than the Chinese bottles though.

      • +2

FYI, these 500ml cans are brewed in Japan. Not CUB 330ml Asahi.

        • 500ml cans now being brewed in Aus too sadly, since the start of this year I think.

          • +1

@flopsy: This is so sad. I bought a slab a 4wks ago from DM and the cans are brewed in Japan.

          • @flopsy: Really? That's a dealbreaker then

            • @skysky: I just got my delivery.. Brewed in Australia… disappointed

          • @flopsy: I buy a couple of cases a month from Dans. They are all made in Japan.

            Why the fake news?

            • +3

@mctubster: Imported cases still exist so you're calling me a liar? Pretty lame.
Photo evidence, new can on the right.

              • @flopsy: Thanks for the proof. Unsure why my Dans has had made in Japan all year (well until last week at least). Checking tonight

            • @mctubster: They used to be exclusively made in Japan and imported but in the last 3 weeks they've pretty much all been changed to made in Australia. Protip if the packaging has the "WIN A TRIP TO JAPAN" label on it, it's made in AU, if it doesn't then it might be older made in Japan stock.

              t. I work at Dans

Yes we're annoyed by it too, especially as the price is the same.

              • +1

@absolutecuck: Eeek. I’m not going to say what Dans I’m buying from and heading over to clean them out tonight!

Bye bye Ashahi I guess :/

                • +2

@mctubster: Monsuta just released 500ml cans this week too, at my Dan's at least, and they're made in Japan and very nice. Currently $22 for a 6 pack of 500ml and $75 for a carton so on sale it's very much the better choice than Asahi now.

              • @absolutecuck: Got three cases today from Wolli Creek Dans … Made in Japan. Yay

    • All cans are japan made. It's the bottles that are made in Australia

      • +3

        Not anymore sadly.

Knew there was going to be a comment like this.
I can guarantee that in a blind tasting you wouldn't be able to tell the differece, be it Aus, Jap or China brewed

      • +5

You are so wrong. The Australian brewed one tastes like stale Carlton Draught and will make you vommit after 2 bottles. The Japanese one is distinctly different in taste and is not offensive. Could easily be tasted out of a line up.

      • +3

Mate the Chinese made bottles taste like brewed dish water, I’d rather a VB tbh

      • +1

I'm not, by far, a beer expert - even I can tell the difference. It taste diluted.

  • +1

    Thanks oredered!!

      Why?

  • This is a crap deal

  • I've got it for $32. Thanks!!

  • Whilst bottle is 330ml to can 500ml, is the beer better from a bottle than from a can?

    • No, the bottled beer is pasteurised but the canned Asahi is not. Best served in a chilled glass.

      • Shiet too late I bought the bottle :(

      • Why do they not pasteurise the cans?

        • Asahi Japan doesn't pasteurize is my understanding

  • It's not my cup of tea but if anyone missed out yesterday you can get this for $22 a six-pack at First Choice today with 20% cashback on Cashrewards: https://www.firstchoiceliquor.com.au/beer/asahi-super-dry-ca…

    • where's that deal?

  • yeah well this is Ozbargain and we want bargains - not massively overpriced imported beer slightly discounted - that aint a bargain

    • +1

At this price with the 20% cashback yesterday this was a bargain.

Plus you have been a member since 2018 and you have never posted anything. You are the last person to be talking about bargains.

  • Thanks OP.. Mine comes down to $32 for 2 x 6 pack, for some reason. Can't complain with extra discount :)

  • Heads up! Bought 2 packs and then noticed it's made in Australia. Online it doesn't say whether it's imported or not. I'll try one tonight and hopefully doesn't disappoint too much

    • What did you think? Somehow it wasn’t as refreshing as I remembered from the can, so I filled a glass and then saw where it’s made 😭

      • +2

It's not good. Usually when I finish a can (the one made in Japan), I get a nice level of buzz (tipsy), enough but not too strong, just right for me.

With the Australian made, it felt and taste diluted. I got mild/weak buzz, eventhough it says 5% alcohol as well. Avoid it at all cost. I have 11 cans to finish now sigh

The one made in Japan worth every cent.

  • $63 a carton today , grabbed a couple for Christmas.

  • I think I need to go beer hunting for the last Japanese made cans in the state

  • So I have a feeling they have taken whats left of the Japanese and replaced them with the Australian soap water alternative.
Any with the comp Chance to win a trip… Aus made.

Well not a total waste of time, bought two of the carton Monsuta which this time are the 500ml. A little milder than the Japanese Asahi but still very palatable.

There was another at Dan's which is very nice called Korudo. They are only in the 350 ml.
