      • Some people on here said to go and speak to store.

      • Yes, it is.. but I am just thinking whether it's worth the hassle as I paid using 10% gift cards.

    • Does Apple really do price match?

      • Yes, up to 10% with an Australian physical store (so not Amazon AU, for example).

        • Live chat or do you call?

          • +1

@JackFrost: Definitely in store as that's what I did, but I heard over the phone also works. Just be aware in both cases you'll need your gift cards and not your Apple ID balance. So don't load the gift cards into your Apple ID as you can't use that to pay for in-store and (I'm pretty sure) over the phone purchases. I used 7 gift cards in store to get a price matched MacBook Pro. I think the limit (in both cases) is 8 in one transaction. Not sure about live chat, I don't think they let you order anything over live chat. But they can answer your price match questions because I used them to ask about price matching before.

            • @dreamykitten: Thanks! So I could wait till Officeworks have the 14” MBP on special, go in-store, get Apple to price-match OW and claim the $400 gift card from Apple?

              • +1

@JackFrost: I would say yes. However they may not let you combine a price match with this offer (but I don’t see why not). And your MacBook Pro obviously has to be on special during the Apple shopping event. Then they’ll match up to 10%. This is something you could ask them over live chat, and possibly save screenshots of that and/or have them email you the live chat transcript just in case.

Another thing to consider is if you can pay for your MacBook Pro (price matched or not) using Apple gift cards during this Apple shopping event. Again I don’t see why not.

                • @dreamykitten: Yeah it’s probably worth a try!

What do you mean consider paying for the MacBook Pro using Apple gift cards?

Obviously you’ll be getting some from purchasing this product, but I’m not sure what you mean

                  • +1

@JackFrost: You can pay for it with Apple gift cards normally. I’m just not exactly sure if they’ll let you do the same during the shopping event as it could be seen as combining offers which I don’t think so as gift cards are just a payment method, shopping event or not.

So ideally you could price match it (up to 10%) with OW, pay for it with (discounted) Apple gift cards, and then get a bonus gift card (in your case, $400) for future purchases.

                    • +6

@dreamykitten: Called up Apple to ask about all of this as I was asking the exact same questions. To summarise what the call centre agent told me:

                      1. Price matching only available for regular store pricing. Education store pricing is not eligible for price matching.

                      2. As mentioned by @dreamykitten above, price match is up to 10%. If I'm understanding this correctly, from the example above, a Macbook Pro 14" at regular store price is $2999 and can be price matched down to $2699.

                      3. Cannot stack price matching with this bonus gift card offer. So for the 14 MBP either choose to price match at $2699, or get the bonus gift card offer at $2999 - $400 gift card = $2599.

                      4. Apple balance and gift cards can be used. If wanting to do a combination of both, this needs to be done in store. This was also mentioned by @dreamykitten above.

Happy to be corrected if above is not accurate, was really hoping to stack the gift card offer with price matching.

                      • @jjslozb: ah bugger! Thanks for calling. That would be too good!

                      • @jjslozb: Thank you for the updated information.

                      • @jjslozb: I called also, not really 10% match, depends on the systrm, e.g office before sells for 2600, then after matching, apple will sell for 2850 somenlike that, unbelievable right

                        • @coast666: So if I'm understanding right, you mean Apple would sell it for $2600 + $260(10%) = $2860 ?

                          • @jjslozb: Yeah, not sure why, they said they can't decide the price, the system decides

                            • @coast666: Gotcha, in that case the bonus gift card offer seems to be a better deal than price matching with Apple.

    • You can ask, but I doubt it. The $400 gift card IS the 'discount.' They probably won't let you double dip.

Guys remember that on the actual Black Friday cash rewards and shop back up their cashback (I think last year it was 8% capped at $100 and 5% uncapped on Cyber Monday).

    • So you would order online (for the cashback) & collect in store?

      • Yes, that's correct. It also works with the apple gift cards. Buy gift cards with points (at times running with Coles or woolies), add to account. On the Black Friday go via cashrewards/shopback and voila'. Another $100 off (I think the gift card value isn't counted though, nor 10% gst)

        • If you don't get cashback on the gift card portion (and I guess sometimes use of gift cards may mean no cashback) then it may not be worth mucking around with gift cards & just get the cashback? I guess it depends upon the gift card discount (5% seems to be the highest at the moment) & what cashback deals will crop up on the day.

  • Interested in purchasing a base 14" MBP and wondering people's thoughts on whether to buy during Black Friday or wait for back to school deal early next year

On the one hand, MBP during Black Friday is $2999 with $400 GC (+ discounted gift cards)

Or during Back to School, MBP is $2769 (edu pricing) with either gift card (not sure how much) or airpods - last year they had the free airpods deal in AUS but seems like in other countries this year they've included a gift card instead, see https://www.macrumors.com/2022/06/24/apple-2022-back-to-scho… (+ discounted gift cards)

What's the best option to maximise savings?

    • +1

Black Friday if you manage to get also the cashback via cashrewards/shopback. Last year on Black Friday 8% cashback up to $100 or 5% off uncapped on Black Monday (I think). You need to take off the gst and gift card value so you would get $100 back on black friday or $117 on the Cyber Monday (I think). That is if they run same promotions as last year.

      • Cheers thanks for the info, will look out for Cashrewards promo this year. Also I noted last year M1 Pro 14" was ineligible for cashback but fingers crossed it's eligible this time round

        • You can go to cash rewards and see if eligible now for the current percentage.

          • +1

@fozzie: Oh cheers thank you! Looks like just about everything released prior to this year is eligible.

            • +1

@goandgoo: Fantastic! Stay tuned next week then. Good luck

Reading the writing on the wall (ie, UK/US back to school deals a few months back) I am anticipating a repeat of the gift cards thing for their back to school promotion in Jan - anyone want to take a guess at what the value of gift cards might be then?

I'm on the line for iPad Pro 12.9, keyboard, pencil, AirPods Pro, the whole shebang…but this all rests on (not yet confirmed) scholarship money which wont announce until December (of course!) Its also a bit hard to guestimate when the dollar value doesn't translate well with the currency conversion factored in but I was thinking $100 card for the iPad pro and then going down incrementally for the other bits.

Right now I could get $200 worth of cards to apply to the later purchase of iPad - or I can bank on the back to school deal being equal/better than. No idea what's the best approach.

I'm assuming all these gift cards we're accumulating can actually be spent on the education pricing later? ie, I know you can't earn them using education pricing, but can't imagine they're going to know/care how the resulting cards from this deal are spent later?

    • Magic Keyboard nets $80 card - can't use education pricing so that's (effectively - I know it doesn't translate exactly, but go with me here) $499, still $40 cheaper than education pricing overall. Seems to be a distinct lack of third party retailers selling the 6th gen version as yet (the 5th gen likely fits, but apples to apples etc)
    • Apple Pencil nets $40 card - off regular price that makes it (effectively) $180. Tons of third party retailers and price matching/beating I can get it down from $199 to $188 or so, so still ahead but only by $8.
    • AirPods Pro 2 is where this shines - the lowest I can fenangle with price matching/beating has been about $368 - so the (effective) $319 after gift card is significantly lower than any other price I've seen so far, unless/until Amazon releases a whopper for their BF deal.

(Bearing in mind this is all predicated on the idea that I would also be buying the iPad Pro…so all these gift cards would be applied to that…so we're talking more in terms of total savings)

Sneaky little buggers kyboshing the price matching tho. Dammit.

  • As per T&C's

At a Qualifying Location: Customers who purchase an Eligible Product in a Qualifying Location during the Promotion Period shall receive a discount equal to the value of the Promotion Product (depending on their purchase, as set forth below) off the price of the Eligible Product. Customers will be charged for all items in their bag, including the Promotion Product.

So, instead of gift card, it's a discount on the actual product.

    • +1

"For a limited time, get an Apple Gift Card to use on a later purchase when you buy an eligible iPhone, Apple Watch, Mac, AirPods and more.* Mark your calendar — our special shopping event kicks off 25 November."

Sounds like you'll pay the full RRP and then get a gift card, but the way these items are shown on the receipt would be "discounted product + gift card = full RRP".

So let say you get the $2999 14" MacBook Pro, you'll pay $2999 in total for the laptop ($2599) and the gift card ($400). Then the gift card can be used for later purchases.

  • How fast will you get the apple gift card?

Planning to buy an airpod then use the 80 dollar giftcard to buy an iphone 13 during the same promotional period.

    • From experience it's pretty instant, maybe in a couple of hours or a day or two.

  • +1

Be warned if you return your purchase they deduct the gift card off the price, so will be stuck with a gift card.

  • Thinking of buying a M2 MB Air with custom config, use the gift card to get either the AirPods Pro 2nd Gen or iPhone 14 Pro 256gb. I need to get the phone and the MB in that priority order. I’m also going to claim gst refund, trying to work out how to maximise on this deal.

Can people buy from education store without being a university student?

    • -1

Yes just go online and pick up they dont ask for student card or anythinf

    • I work at uni part time and I just buy from the education store. No questions asked. I guess for them a successful sale is a sale.

    • -2

Anecdotally, they have cancelled online sales without edu email. If you do it in store, you'd likely need to show student ID.

      • -1

I've used my personal email and bought through the education union store numerous times with no problems

  • So to confirm, we can still buy with gift cards and then get the gift card? I agree with one of the commenters above and like the idea of getting the Coles 20x Flybuys and using those to buy a Macbook for this deal.

    • Yes, I did it last year and also got cash rewards.

  • +4

Confirmed in store, can buy with gift cards, if you buy online you'll be sent a digital gift card (usually within 30 mins) and you can use that to make another purchase in-store (e.g. if you want to piggy back the gift card).

    • +2

      Cheers thanks for confirming

    • So the gift card they send can only be used in store only? Can't use that to make another online purchase?

      • +2

Ah sorry for the confusion– as far as I understand it can be used online (it's a digital gift card) but I checked that it can ALSO be used in store.

        • Just to confirm that this gift card is like the normal Apple GC we get from Coles etc. right? So that it can be used toward iCloud etc. ? I mean I do not have to buy another actual device from Apple to get the GC used right?

  • +1

Don’t forget Macquarie marketplace 5% off gift cards and CR/SB cashback :)

  • After factoring in the gift card, which products will be at its historical low?

  • Should we wait for January back-to-school promotion through the Apple Education store?

  • From my understanding, this also works in Apple stores? I’m hoping to price match JBHIFI’s 10% off, then grab this gift card. Hoping we can combine the two

  • Im currently wanting to buy a Ipad Air and Pencil 2, Does anyone know if I can order the Ipad, get a gift card, use said gift card to order the Pencil 2 then receive a second gift card? Or will the gift cards be sent out after the event?

    • Card is sent pretty much straight away.

  • Check if JB is one of the qualifying locations. If so, use this deal to get a 15% discount on a gift card. Purchase using the gift card then

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/737790

If you are planning to buy multiple products, get them in multiple transactions to get the best discounts

    • You have to purchase from Apple to get the GCs

  • If you purchase 2 x iphones (for example) would you get 2 x gift cards?
Could you use the first gift card to buy the second one (assuming they don't take it off the price)?

    • +1

… I just found this in the terms & conditions:
"For each Eligible Product Category, only two (2) Promotion Products per purchaser may be obtained during this promotion."

  • Want to buy 14 m2, but has to wait until march next year ….come on apple

    • Speculation is 14 M1 will stay same price & 14 M2 will be 5-10% higher, similar to what they did with iPads recently. 14 M1 will still have plenty of longevity imo

      • thanks, bought 14 when was released last year, then returned after 1 day due to software compatibility with new M1 processor, so been waited since….

    • +1

5nm to 3nm TSMC isn’t as big as what people may think. While it’s a 70% increase in logic density, it only equates to ~15% more perf at the same power or 30% more battery life at same perf.
Considering yield, it should be priced quite a bit higher as well.
So I think they will price it higher at the low end situating the base model between the 16 pro and 24c max models. Then the max variant should be between 24 and 32c or as a more power efficient upgraded version of the 32c and ultra variant beyond the 32c.

      • i see thanks, so do you think it's better to grab M1? In fact, got a good deal when was released last year, but used for 1 day, due to new M1 processor, so program what i after was incompatible that time, plus keyboard feeling compared to 2017 mac, then returned back after 1 day. Then money returned back to app store, want to use it, but been waiting since …

        • I think if you can snag the 10% off M1s or if the Mwave deals come back again then definitely. A lot of the people prospecting this deal seem intent on getting discounted Apple Store cards to pay for one or getting a price match from Apple.

  • flying to NZ at the end of this year, so I can further stack with GST refund.

I know you are not supposed to bring back goods that you have claimed GST refund. Has anyone been checked before when they re-enter Australia with their refunded goods?

  • Will it apply if purchasing through the education store?

  • Share your thoughts people.

M2 Mac Air - Upgrade to 512Gb SSD and 16Gb RAM is about 1699
    where
M1 Mac Pro - already has that Configuration and is 1999

    so $300 price difference

However the interesting difference is you get $160 extra on your Gift Card, so that means the price diff for both models is now about $140

    So my question is

    M2 Air with the upgrades
    OR
    M1 Pro

Now I need 2 screen setup, but I can achieve that with a Dock on the M2, so not sure if that makes the difference.

    love to know peoples thoughts.

    • Is that USD pricing?
I am in the same position m2air or m1pro

      • Oh Crap… it is.
I thought I was on the AUS Site… now that has put a spanner in the works.

    • This is amazing price, but in usd. I am in the same boat. Prefer M1 pro, way better than standard m2.
Officeworks and Amazon are selling at $25**, anyway to make apple match the price? So I can stack with apple gift card.

    • -1

Only reason to get air is if you are prioritising low weight. Otherwise pro is better at everything

  • Is this Apple event deal can be purchased with current Coles Flybuys deal?
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/736711

  • The $320/$400 gift card with the MBPs is a great deal if you have access to the creator education bundle. Final Cut Pro, Logic and supporting software for $299.

  • m2 macbook pro 13 is cheaper direct to apple than with educational purchase. Diff is just around $50. if you get $320 dollar voucher thats a good deal. However, the edu has better insurance. I dont see a similar insurance that they provide outside.

    • what's the better insurance? any difference to a normal store sale?

  • Edu insurance has covered like theft, accidetal liquid spill, which I dont see from outside. Not saying it will get lost but if ever happens its covered for replacement.

  • If looking to get iPad or MacBook might be better to wait for the back to school deal. The US has changed from free AirPods to US$100 giftcard for iPad Air or Pro and US$150 giftcard for select MacBook this year.

  • Can’t price match and get gift card. Was also told if you buy in store gift card is not applied to the purchase. You get gift card separately.

  • MacBook Pro 14 inch OOS for Click & Collect Sydney

  • is it possible to get this gc added to the total so the price will reduce by the original total ?

    • +1

no, as you only get your GC 24 hours after your purchase. I made a purchase this morning, yet to receive my GC

      • any idea to get a the price down to the value of GC,, Im after MacBook air M2

  • Are you better of buying a base model Macbook 14" from AOC or via this deal and paying extra but getting the $400 giftcards?
Looks to be pretty close but I might be missing something.

    • Depends on your personal situation, spin up a spreadsheet and do your calculation. For me this $400 promo is better valued.

      • For low end models the gift cards are likely better, for high end models the inverse is likely true from a dollar perspective

Any other reasons other than dollars?

I read there is an insurance difference between edu/aoc/normal apple stores. How does that work?

I value my time a bit higher than mucking about with a spreadsheet

  • Just got my $80 gift card! And order shipped.

Tax invoice does not include the gift card unfortunately.

    • You get two tax invoices. One for the value of gift card at face value (eg $80), and the other for the item you purchased but with the price reduced by the value of the gift card.

      • Understood.

That means I can only claim tax return based on the reduced price.

  • +1

Ordered Friday and still waiting on gift card hmmmm. Was hoping to stack and buy something else today.

    • Mine came the subsequent business day morning after ordering.

      • Took long enough - got it last night. I changed my MacBook config so maybe that’s why it took longer.

  • If you've missed this deal and still want Mac Book Pro - I got a new MacBook from the Apple store a couple of days ago (now goes for $3199) for the kid.
Unfortunately he doesn't want it (used to the freaking window).
    Happy to give away for $3199 - $320 = $2879
